The Bishop places the paten holding bread and the chalice holding wine in the hands of the
newly ordained priests as they kneel before him.
Lastly, as a sign of welcome into the presbyterate, Bishop Sweeney and the priests present give the fraternal sign of peace to the newly ordained.

RITE OF ORDINATION
ELECTION OF THE CANDIDATES
The candidates are called by the deacon.
Monsignor James T. Mahoney, Vicar General and Moderator of the Curia, asks Bishop Sweeney to ordain these men for service as priests and testifies to their worthiness. Relying on the help of the Lord God and our savior Jesus Christ, the Bishop chooses these men for the Order of the Priesthood.
The assembly shows its approval with applause.
HOMILY
THE PROMISE OF THE ELECT
Bishop Sweeney questions the candidates. The elect kneel before Bishop Sweeney and placing their joined hands between those of the Bishop promise respect and obedience to him and his successors.
LITANY OF SUPPLICATION
The Bishop invites the people to pray. The deacon invites the assembly to kneel.

LAYING ON OF HANDS AND PRAYER OF ORDINATION
Bishop Sweeney lays hands on the heads of the elect in silence; all priests present then do the same.
At the conclusion of the Prayer of Ordination, all sing:
INVESTITURE WITH STOLE AND CHASUBLE
After the Prayer of Ordination, the newly ordained are vested with the stole and chasuble.
