The organic land area has increased by 1.5 millionhectares or 4 % between 2006 and 2007.Particularly in developing countries the increase of organically managed land as well as of producerswas high.Increases were high for some crops, especiallytropical and subtropical crops.The growth in developing countries shows that organic agriculture can contribute to meaningful socio-economic and ecologically sustainable development, especially in poorer countries.
