What is Dancesport?

• Dancesport denotes a specific set of ballroom dance that is competed internationally.

International Standard Style Dances

What to do (Pre-Competition)• A week before the event

• Check website for • Final programme• Final event & participants listing

• Note and highlight the following • Number Tag of participants for Solo and Parternership• Events that the participants are taking part in• The above event line-up on the programme

• Report at 1pm at Registration Table• Registration counter closes at 1.30pm and all absentees withdrawn• Collect number tag and Certificate of Participation

• Different number tag for Solo and Partnership Categories• For partnership categories, only leader will be getting the number tag

• Competitor’s seating area• Change into costume• Pin up number tag & remove hard/sharp object & accessories• Warm up / Rehearsal on dance floor• Check physical well-being and be aware of medical history if any

What to do (During Competition)

• Check whiteboard / Website for sequence of events, listen out for change of sequence, if any, announced by Competitor’s steward

• Send pupil to Competitor’s stewards to line up 2-3 events before their event

• Ensure pupils wear the correct number tag

• Check screen for results of previous round and whether pupils qualify for the next round

• Get pupils ready for the next round

• Supervised pupils at all and regularly check on personal equipment

• Ensure pupils are hydrated & check well-being

• Encourage the pupils throughout the entire competition

• During Prize-giving

• Arrange pupils to sit at the allocated area

• Cheer and encourage the winners for the competition

Send pupil to competitor’s steward to queue up at item 1 event 16 round before the start of the event.

Competition Dress CodeDress code restrictions are based on the following principles:

• As a school based event, dressing should be appropriate in promoting dancesport as a healthy sports for all primary school pupils regardless of background, race and religion.

• Dancesport has important artistic elements, which grooming and dress should enhance but not dominate.

• Adjudicators should not be distracted by unusual or outrageous grooming and dress, from assessing each couple’s demonstration of their relative technical skill, artistry, and floorcraft.

• Dress restrictions are imposed on juvenile competitors so as to ensure that:• Entry into competition should be as accessible to as many people as possible• The cost of entry should be as cheap as possible relative to the minimum standard

of dress required for competition.• At the outset, the emphases for competitors should be on ability, not dress. • During the formative period of their introduction to dancesport, new competitors and in

particular juvenile competitors (as well as their parents and teachers), should have virtually no other consideration than to develop their technical ability.

• The health of juvenile competitors does not suffer because of inappropriate footwear.

National Dancesport Competition Dress CodeBoys: Dance Wear1. Black trousers with plain long

sleeved shirt. Black tie or bow tie is optional.

2. Long sleeved turtle neck instead of a long sleeved shirt will be permitted.

3. Rolled up sleeves are not permitted.

4. Shirt must be tucked in.

Girls: Dance Wear1. Leotard with wrap-over skirt or a simple dress2. Must have sleeves3. Sequins, rhinestones or similar decorations are not

permitted4. No bare midriffs5. No bare backs

Materials & Colour1. Leotard and dress must be of solid colour fabric2. Skin colour or see through inserts are not

permitted 3. Any colour except flesh (skin colour)

PROHIBITED MATERIALS AND STYLES1. Slash-neck leotard or dress with one sleeve 2. Leotard or dress with shoe string or spaghetti

straps 3. Leotard or dress with straps, body stocking or

National Dancesport Competition Dress Code

• Competitor’s warden and organizers will be checking on dress code at the registration counter as well as competitor’s area before the start of the event.

• All pupils that do not follow the dress code will be disqualified.

• Teachers/Participants who have any queries on costume, please email Ms Loi Wei Ling by 6 April 2017.

National Dancesport Competition Dress Code

AOB

• Convener RAMS• Convener RAMS will be emailed to all teachers-in-

charge. Teachers will still need to do RAMS for your own school.

• Transport• Teachers are advised to either charter bus or take

taxi with their pupils as cars are not covered by insurance.

• Food• Bun and Milo will be provided for the participants.

Please take your lunch before coming.
