Welcome to CMUWelcome to the 2020–21CMU learning community. We are very excited that you have chosen CMU as part of your educational journey. Whether this is your first year at CMU or you are a returning student, your presence is a gift to all of us. This past year has introduced many challenges into our lives, but it is in challenging times such as these that we come together as a community. Academic Supports CMU offers academic support to students through programs such as PAL (Peer Assisted Learning—walk-in tutoring, free of charge), academic tutors (by appoint-ment, free of charge), and peer tutors (by appointment, small hourly fee). To explore your options or to book an appointment with a tutor, please contact Vern Kehler at cmu.ca/advising.

Accessibility Programs CMU is committed to providing a supportive environment for students with disabilities. If a student needs accommodations they must make an appointment with Sandra Loeppky at cmu.ca/studentaccessibility.

Campus Communication, Computers, and IT Check your CMU email regularly for an-nouncements of what is going on around campus. CMU email can be accessed at login.microsoftonline.com.

Computers are available for student use in the computer lab (north side), as well as in the library (Marpeck Commons). Stu-dents will need to use their CMU Network username and password to access these computers.

Wifi network for admin buildings: “CMU Wireless” Password: Wireless@CMU!

IT Help: To reset forgotten passwords, email [email protected] or see south side reception.

Community Gatherings Community Gatherings occur throughout the week and are times dedicated to com-ing together as a community. Students are encouraged to participate in Chapels on Tuesday, 11:30 AM, in the Laudamus Auditorium, Forums on Friday, 11:30 AM, in the Chapel, Wednesday Night Worship on Wednesday in the Lecture Hall, and Small Groups scattered throughout the week!

Counselling Services There are qualified counsellors who volunteer their services free of charge to CMU students. In person and virtual appointments are available. To book an appointment email [email protected]. Confidentiality is always maintained.

Health and Wellness CMU strives to support the holistic well-being of all members of the commu-nity by promoting health and wellness through a variety of on-campus and off campus resources and opportunities. Go to cmu.ca/wellness for more information and a schedule.

On-Campus Student Employment There are many on-campus jobs with flexible hours and shifts. All students can apply for on-campus jobs at: cmu.ca/studentemployment. If you’ve already been offered an on-campus job, you will need to attend an Employment Orientation session on Tuesday or Thursday of Welcome Week.

Scent-Free Policy CMU strives to be a scent free envi-ronment. Please refrain from wearing fragrances and scented products on campus.

Student ID Cards Student ID Cards are required to access any building on campus. Students can register for a card at cmu.ca/orientation and will be notified of how to obtain it.

If you are unable to register for a card, please go to the library between 10:00AM and 4:00 PM on Tuesday, Sept 8.

Varsity Athletics – CMU Blazers CMU athletes compete in four different sports: men’s and women’s basketball, volleyball, soccer, and futsal. Spectators are welcome to attend soccer games. Livestreams and schedules can be found at CMU Blazers on IG and FB.

Residence at CMU is an excellent place for students living away from home. The Residence Director (RD), Senior Residence Assistant (SRA) and Residence Assistants (RAs) provide valuable leadership to the Residence program.

Your room and property All dormitory rooms are furnished with a bed, desk, chair, shelves, and closet. You will need bedding and personal items. Please leave candles and other flammable or scented materials at home. CMU property insurance does not cover student losses of personal property.

Alcohol, tobacco, marijuana, and illegal drugs are not allowed on the CMU campus.

Access and Guests: All residence buildings are reserved for residence stu-dents, accessible only by prox card. Out-side guests are allowed into apartments by invitation only and must register with the Residence Director before entering.

Internet in all Residences: “CMU Res” Password: Res@CMU!

Mail: All students living on campus will have a mailbox, located downstairs in the Administration Building (south). The mailing address is the same as CMU with “To the attention of (student name).”

Parking: All residence students who bring a car to campus are required to purchase a full parking pass. Register for a pass at cmu.ca/orientation.

Food Services All students who live in the dormitories are part of the full meal plan. Apartment students receive one lunch and supper weekly. Lunch and supper are served in two sittings that you must sign up for. 12:00 PM and 12:30 for lunch and 5:00 PM and 5:45 for supper. More information will be provided on Orientation Day.

Living on Campus

Financial InformationFees To view your billing statement, log onto your CMU Student Portal and click on “Bill-ing”. Due Date: Sept. 11, 2020. A monthly late fee will be charged on any outstand-ing balances after Sept. 11. For more infor-mation see the Student Payment Policy at cmu.ca/tuition.

Withdrawal and Tuition Refund In order to receive a 100% tuition refund, you must withdraw from fall classes by Sept 18., 2020

Financial Aid For information on scholarships, bursaries, the payment plan, on campus student employment and other forms of financial aid visit cmu.ca/financialaid.

CMU is dedicated to creating a place for commuters to have a wonderful university experience.

The Coordinator of Commuter Programs, Senior Commuter Assistant (SCA), and Commuter Assistants (CAs) provide valu-able leadership to the Commuter program.

Spaces: Become familiar with the Com-muter Lounge and Student Centre (south), Great Hall/Blaurock Café (north), and the entire Marpeck Commons.

Lockers: Lockers are available for free on a first come, first serve basis. Students must provide their own lock.

Transit and Parking: CMU can be accessed by three bus routes: 66 Dieppe or Unicity, 79, and 95. Post-secondary student peggo cards can be purchased from Com-monword Bookstore (Marpeck Commons).

All commuter students who bring a car to campus are required to purchase a parking pass, and to park in Lot A (north). Register for a pass at cmu.ca/orientation.

International StudentsCMU values the presence and contribu-tion of students from other countries and cultures. CMU has developed programs and services uniquely focused on assisting international students in the transition to life at CMU and in Canada.

Peer Support: International students can find peer support and specialized pro-gramming by getting to know the mem-bers of the International Student Council and the International Student Mentors.

Health Insurance: International student health insurance is provided by guard.me which you can receive more information about during a session on Friday, Sept 11. at 12:00PM (Conference Room) and through the module in the Online International Student Pre-Orienta-tion course.

keep.MeSAFE is a program that is covered through guard.me and provides mental health supports for international students through 24/7 access to support in a variety of languages and cultural experiences.

Meet new people: Join in an International Student Meet and Greet on Thursday, Sept. 10 at 4:00 PM. (location TBD)

FAQsHow do I meet people and make new friends? Come to all the orientation events! Events like First Year Orientation on Monday and Progressive Snack on Friday are for meeting and making friends.

How can I change my classes? You can do this on your student portal, or by filling out a Course Change Form located beside A07 (south). Make sure to check the Registration Guide for all relevant dates.

Where can I buy textbooks? The CommonWord Bookstore (Marpeck Commons) sells textbooks. Students need to pre-order and schedule a time to pick up and pay at commonword.ca.
