WhatistheSoul?

Thesoulistheentityinthebody,whichfirecannotburn,weaponscannotcut,watercannotmakewet&aircannotmakedry.Sayingoneiseternalmeansonewastherefromthebeginningofcreation;heisherenowandwillbehereinthefuturetoo.Heisimmutable,unmovedandunchanged.

ThoughweareapartoftheUniversalSoul,weareactinglikegoodactorsinthisworldlystage,playingtheroleofpeopleinsufferinganddistressundertheveilofMayaorignorance.ThedifferencebetweentheIndividualsoul(Jivatma)andtheUniversalSoul(Paramatma)liesinthefactthatParamatmaisfreefromallsinsandbindingsgeneratedoutofthisignoranceandbondage.

TwoWorlds-ThreeBodies

Mrityujagat(Worldofdeath)istheworldmadeofearth,water,fire,airandEther/skythatweknowasthematerialisticworld.Thisisalsoknownastheworldofdeathbecauseeverythingexistinghereisperishable.Evenjoyandhappinessaretemporary.

Divyajagat(Divineworld)istheworldoflight,whichissubtle.OnlythosewhoachieveSalvationareallowedtostaytherebecausethisworldistheworldoftheAlmighty.Mind,Prana,body,everythingbecomesstillinthisworld.ThisistheworldofSalvationwhereonlyeverlastingpeacepervades.

Thebodyconsistsofthreelayers.SthulaShariristhegrossbodymadeoffleshandbones-veins,blood,muscle,skin,organs,etc.ShukshmaShariristheastralbodyorpranicbody.Itconsistsofmind,intellect,egoandconsciousness.KaranShariristhecausalbody.ItismadeofonlyDivinelight.

BodilyPleasureandSalvation.

TheintellectofthepersonwhoisnotattachedwiththeUniversalSoul,isnotdefinite.ItmeanshisintellectisdirectionlessandaversetothepathofYoga.His/hermindisfullofdesiresandcannotperceivetheDivineLight.Themindofthispersonisalwaysrestless,alwaysfullofthoughtsofdesireandlust.Sucharestlessmindcannotbringbliss.TheAantarjagat(internalworld)becomescoveredwithadarkcloudbecauseoftheveil,andtheDivineLightcannotmanifest.Toovercomethis,self-controlisverymuchrequired.Otherwiseitisverydifficulttocontroltheoutwardsenses.Withoutthis,therewillbenoprogressonthespiritualpath.

Expectationscausemanyproblems.Thereisnoendtoexpectations.Oncefulfilled,anotherexpectationbegins.Theprocessisneverending.Onedoes

nottakeshelterinone’sgoodthoughtsbecauseofattractiontowardsbodilypleasures.Onecannoteasilyforgetthebodilypleasureandifhe/sheseesanythingwhichcangivebodilypleasure,one’slustgetsignited.

TheSadhakknowsinhisheartthatbodilypleasuresresultindeath.Inspiteofthathecontinuestotrytogetholdofthesebodilypleasures.Atthispoint,self-determinationisamust.Also,itisrequiredtopracticeKriyafollowingstrictdiscipline.IfonepracticesKriyafollowingstrictdisciplineandwithself-determination,he/shewillbefreefromthiscycleofbirthanddeathforever.

OurmindisalwaysruledbyoneofthethreeGunasi.e.Satya,RajoandTamo.Forthisreason,oneoranothertypeofdesireisalwaysoccupyingourmind.WhenSatyaGunaincreases,theeffectofRajoandTamosubsides.Atthattimespiritualandpositivethoughtsoccupythemind.Themindbecomescalmandfilledwithpurethoughts.WhenRajoGunaincreases,theeffectofTamoandSatyasubsides.Thenmanbecomesveryactiveandworkshard.WhenTamoGunaincreases,lazinessisseen.Mindbecomesfilledwithdirtyandnegativethoughts.Theresultisthatonlynegativethingshappen.

Inthesameway,thelightinthespiritualinnersky(Chittakashordivinesky)changescolouraspertheprevalentGunainthemindandbody.DuringSatyaGuna,thelightiswhiteincolour.DuringRajoGuna,itisredandduringTamoGuna,thecolourisblackortotallydark.

FromtheMuladharchakratoSwadhisthanchakra,TamogunagraduallydecreasesandRajogunaincreases.InSwadhisthan,Rajogunadominates.InManipurchakra,RajoandSatyagunaaresplit50-50andaftercrossingManipurchakra,SatyagunaincreasesandRajogunadecreases.ThatiswhyfromMuladharchakratoManipurchakra,thepredominantinfluenceisRajoguna,andthatiswhyweneedtoapplyforceonPranayamhere,untillthePranabecomesmoresubtleandentersBajranadi(coveredinmoredetailahead).Whenthemindbecomesrestless,Kutasthabecomescoveredbytheveils,visionofGodhappensonlyinthedistanceandisnotclear.ThisiscalledSorrow.

WhenRajogunaandSatyagunaareequal,wecanseethevisionofGodfromadistanceinfrontofthedivineorinnersun.Atthattime,wefeelthatfromeverywherelightsarecomingandgoingintheinnersky,andifweconcentrateonit,weareabletohearavoice.Thisvoicesoundsjustlikeanoldmanwithoutteethtryingtospeak.Byconcentratingmore,weheartheGayatriMantrainSanskrit.AfterpiercingManipurChakraandenteringChitranadi(coveredinmoredetailahead),weseedifferentcolors.ThenwewillreachAnahatachakra.HereSatyagunais¾dominantandRajogunais¼dominant,andthewholeinnerworldlightsupandrestlessnessofminddiminishes.Manysoundscanbeheardintherightear(Gayatri).Then,afterpiercingAnahatachakra,wethenpierceVishuddhachakrawhereonlypuresatyagunarules.

ThisstorymayhelptoexplaintheGunas:

ThreeDacoits(thieves)andtheGunas.

Oneday,aninnocentpersonwastravelingalonethroughaforest.Hehadsomemoneyandornamentswithhimandhewassuddenlyveryfrightened,seeing3dacoitscomingtowardshim.Seeingthem,themanstartedtoshiveroutoffear.Thedacoitsthenrobbedhimofeverythinghehad.Thefirstdacoitwasblackincomplexion;theseconddacoitwasredandthethirdonewaswhiteincolor.Afterrobbinghim,theblackdacoitsuggestedtokillhim,buttheredoneopposedandsaid,“wehavealreadytakenwhatwecan-let’snotkillhim.Justtiehimtothetreeandwe’llleave’’.So,theytiedhimtothetreeandleft.Afterafewminutes,thewhitedacoitcamebackandsaid,“BrotherIknowyouareinextremepain.Icannotreturntoyouwhatwetook,butIwillsetyoufree.Onceyouarefree,youmustgostraighttotheroadthatleadstothecity.”(WhiteDacoit-SatyaGuna,RedDacoit–RajoGunaandBlackDacoit-TamoGuna.)

RajoGuna-thatis,thezoneofrestlessnessofmind.Restlessnessofmindcreatesdesiresandattractiontowardsmaterialisticthings.ButafterpiercingManipurChakra,Satyagunastartstodominate.OurmindwillmovetowardscalmnessandtheDivinelightwillappearfixedwithoutanymovementbecausemindbecomescalmduetoSatyaGuna.Mindatthattimewillloseitsinteresttowardsthematerialisticworldandwilltraveltowardsthedivineinnerworld.RajoGuna(restlessness)willgraduallyfadeaway,andSatyaGuna(calmness)willrule.

Karma,Bhakti&GyanaYoga(Action,Devotion&Knowledge)

Karma,BhaktiandGyanaYogacorrespondtodifferentstagesofsadhanaaswellasareasofthespineandbrainthatwemusttraverseinordertoprogressonthepath.Thereisadirectcorrespondencebetweenthestagesandtheseareas.ThereisalsoacorrespondencetothedominanceofthethreeGunas,justdiscussed.TheseareactuallydifferentstagesofSadhanathataKriyaYogihastocross.

TheportionofthespinebetweenMuladhar(Rootchakraorcoccygealplexus)andthelowerpartofAgnachakrasistheareaofaction(Karma).ThePranaflowsherethroughthreechannels(Nadis):Ida,PingalaandSushumna.InthispartofthebodytheonlyKriyatobepracticedisthesimplePranayamalreadyexplained,withoutholdingthebreath(Kumbhaka).ThePranayamaistobepracticedwithPranava(OM)andfocusshouldbeintheKutasthaorthethirdeye.ThisistheKriyaofsixchakras,orpranayama,asalreadydiscussed.Withpractice,thePranavabinduappears.WhenthePranavabindu(star)mergeswiththestarofKutastha,theAnahataNaad(“OM’’sound)resonates.OnecannotdoPranayamabovethelowerpartofAgnaChakra.

WithlotsofregularanddedicatedpracticeofPranayam,thePranabecomessubtleandforceful.TheKutasthagetspiercedandthegraceofGodbecomesevident.TheKriyaSadhanathenreachesDharana,thesecondstageofmeditation.Thisisperformedintheareaofdevotion.Atthisstage,theSadhak(Kriyapractitioner)holdsthebreath(Kumbhaka)andchantsPranava(OM).‘When‘KutasthaBindu’and‘PranavaBindu’merge,thenAnahata

Naadstarts,whichsoundslikelongOM…IftheSadhakaconcentratesonthisOMsound,lotsofdifferentvoicesareheard.Thisisthe”GITA”.ThisKriyaisperformedinaverysubtlestageofmind.

AftercompletionofthisKriya,themindbecomescompletelycalmandnoKriyaexists.Thisisaneffortlesscondition.Whenthishappens,Naadi.e.OMconvertsintolight(Jyoti).Whenthisdivinelightappears(BishnuJyoti),theSadhakhastomediateonit.ThisistheMulachakra.(NottobeconfusedwithMuladharchakraorRootchakra).

Afterthat,theuniversalsoulappears.NothingisgreaterthanthisstateandSalvationisachievedatthisstage.ThisistheareaofGyana(Knowledge).

InthebeginningofSadhana,itisfelttobeverydifficulttofocusthemindinKutastha.OldSamskaras/mindimpressionsattackthemindanddivertitfromthepointoffocusinKutastha.Thesearedescribedas‘Abaran’or‘Bikshep’.However,ifaSadhakgoesonpractisingtheKriyawithpatienceanddevotionaspertheinstructionoftheGuru,thenthemindslowlygetsabsorbedinKutastha.Youmusthavelotsofpatienceatthisstage.

WhentheSadhakcrossestheManipurchakra(orSolarPlexus/Navalcentre),PranaenterstheChitraNaadi,Kundalinigetsactivatedandhelosesalloutwardsense.

Asmentioned,thesubtlestateofbreathislifeforce(Prana).ThesubtlestateofPranaismind.Thesubtlestateofmindisintellectandthesubtlestateofintellectistheindividualsoul.Thesubtlestateoftheindividualsoulistheuniversalsoul.WestartpracticingKriyafromthegrossstage-i.e.throughbreathingandgradually(bybecomingmoreandmoresubtle)wereachuniversalsoul.Wegofromgrosstosubtletoextremelysubtle.Itissomethingthatcannotbeexplainedinwriting.WeneedtodoKriyayogapracticallyinordertoexperiencethesestages.Thisisdirectknowledge.BygettinginitiationfromarealGuru(RealisedGuru)andfollowinghisinstructionsexactly,onecangetsalvationeveninonelifetime.

OurfirstgoalinPranayamaistomakethebreathsubtle.Withsubtlebreath,weareabletoenterSushumna,andthenworkonthenextgoalofPranayama:topiercethechakrasoneby

one.SushumnarunsfromMuladharupthroughthecentreofthespine,andtravelsthroughSahasrasarChakra.

RouteofSushumnaandIdaandPingala

HereIwillexplainclearlytherouteofSushumna,IdaandPingalafromMuladharChakratoAgnaChakraandfromAgnaChakratoSahasrasarandexplaintheentirerouteofIdaandPingala.Actually,SushumnaisstartingfromMulachakrabehindSahasrasarChakra,comingdowntoSreeBindu(thecentreofSahasrasarChakra).ThisstretchiscalledParamaKhetraortheAreaofKnowledge.ThenitcomesdownfurtherfromSreeBindutothecenterofAgnaChakrai.e.Kutastha.ThisstretchiscalledtheAreaofDevotionorVidyaKhetra.FromKutastha,itcomesdowntoMuladharChakrathroughthecentreofVisudha,Anahata,Manipur,SvadhistanandMuladhar.ThisstretchiscalledAvidyaKhetraortheAreaofAction.

MulaChakraistheareaofbillionsofuniverseswhichareruledbythe

Almighty,whoisformless.AKriyapractitioner,bythehelpofdifferentKriyas,startshisjourneytowardsSalvationfromMuladharChakratoMulaChakra,throughthissamepathandfinallygetsdissolvedwiththeAlmighty.Thisissalvation.ActuallySushumnaisstartingfromandcomestoSreeBindu(centreofSahasrasarchakra).Fromthere,itcomesfurtherdowntoKutasthawherethepureSushumnaismixedwiththethreegunas(Satya,RajoandTamo)andcomedowntoAbidyakshetra(areaofactionfromKutasthatomuladharchakra).Thenmindcomesoutofsushumnaandgetsinvolvedwithmaterialisticbindingetc.Thusweforgetthatwearepartoftheuniversalsoul.Nowwehavetotravelthroughsushumnatomulainthesameroutetogetsalvation.

FromtheMedulla,Sushumnaistravelingviatworoutes:

Sushumna(I)istakingadiversionandjoinsIdaandPingalainAgnaChakra.Then,itgoesupthroughanotherextremelynarrowtunnelinsidetheforehead(KapalKuhar).Then,itgoesupthroughanextremelynarrowchannelwhichpiercesthecentreofSahasrasar(i.e.ShreeBindu)until“Brahmarandhra”whereSushumna(I)meetsSushumna(II).

FromtheMedulla,Sushumna(II)isgoingthroughthebackportionofourskull,until“Brahmarandhra”facingSushumna(I).Sushumna(II)hasaclosedendandSushumna(I)hasanopenend.Atthetimeofdeath,ayogiappliesforce(thokkar)onlife-force(prana)throughSushumna(I),thusopeningtheotherendofSushumna(II)inordertogetdilutedwiththeAlmightyandbecomeonewiththeAlmighty.Afterthat,thereisnomorebirthanddeath.Totalsalvationisachieved.

IdaandPingalastartfromthelowerendofSushumna;Idafromtheleftsideandpingalafromtherightside.Thentheygoupwardsinacriss-crossfashion,periodicallyjoiningwithSushumnauntilthelowerpartofAgnaChakraisreached.ThatiswhythisstretchiscalledtheAreaofAction.Thisiswherepranayamisrequired.Abovethispoint,IdaandPingalanolongerexist,whichiswhyonecannotdopranayamaabovethelowerpartofAgnaChakra.

Bajra,ChitraandBrahmanadiareallinsideSushumna.BajrastartsfromSwadhistanChakraortheSacralPlexus.ThiscanbeunderstoodbyimaginingSushumnatobeahollowpipewithanotherhollowpipewithinit,whichrunsfromSwadhistanupward.Andthen,anotherhollowpipe(Nadi)startsfromManipurupwardwhichisChitra.ThecommonholetravelingthroughSushumna,BajraandChitraiscalledBrahmanadi,whichisverysmallindiameter.Yogishavedescribeditas1/1000thofthediameterofahair.WehavetomovethroughthatNaditowardsSahasrasarChakra.AfterpiercingalltheChakras,themindmovesalongBrahmanadiinsideSushumnawithouttouchinganyChakra.

AwakeningofKundalini:

WhenourmindentersBajra(whichstartsfromSwadisthan)Kundalinipowerawakens.Kundaliniisadivinepowerwhichisinasleepingstateatthebaseofthespine.BydoingsecondKriya,Kundaliniawakens.Itisagreatdivinepower.WhenyouenterSwadhistan,Kundalinistartstoawaken.WhenyouenterManipura,Kundaliniisactive.Thiskundalini,wehavetobringuptosahasrasar.WhenourmindentersChitra,thisiswherethekundalinigetsactivatedandpureandsattvic(divine)intellectappearsandtheconnectionwiththismaterialisticworldceases.Youwillcometoknoweverythingaswellaswhateverspecificthingsyouwanttoknow.

Self-Purification:

Thismeanscleaningthebodyandthememoryorstoreofthoughts(Chitta)whereallthematerialisticthoughtsarestored.PurificationofbodymeanscleaningofNadis(channels).

Purificationofthoughtswhichhaveaccumulatedinthememorystore(Chitta)meanscleaningofthesestores.Itotherwisemeanstogaincontroloverthefivesenses,sothattheminddoesnotgetdivertedbysound,touch,sight,tasteorsmell.Atthisstagethemindbecomesnon-receptivetoanysignalsfromthesecontrollingsenses,whichisthegoalofpurification.

InitialStageofSamadhi:

Mindcanbecomparedwiththeflameofacandleinaclosedroom.Atthebottom,theflameisgrossandcanbeseenveryclearly.Butwhenitrises,itgraduallybecomesthinnerandatthetopitlookslikealineonlyandthenitvanishesaltogether.WiththepracticeofKriya,themindgraduallygoesfromagrossstagetoasubtlestage,andthenitgoestoanextremelysubtlestageandcan’tbeseen

Therearefivesensesandtheirrelatedorgans:hearing(ear),touch(skin),vision(eyes),taste(tongue)andsmell(nose).Thereisalimittowhatthesesenseorganscanenjoy.Whenwecrossthatlimit,thenwenolongergetanyenjoymentfromthatparticularsense.Forexample,ifweeattoomuchchocolate,afteracertainamountofintake,wewon’tfeellikeeatingmorechocolate.Ifbyforcewecontinuetoeatchocolate,thenwemayvomitorfeellikedoingso.Evenifwegetasmallamountofpleasureforashortperiodoftime,thisprovesthatmaterialisticthingscannotgiveusendlessjoyandultimatelyresultinsadnessorsorrow.Ifwearetooinvolvedinthematerialisticworld,wecanneverdevelopourselvesinthespiritualworldandtheveilwillcontinuetocoverthedivineworld.Nothingwillbevisibletothespiritualeyeotherthantotaldarkness.Thus,wewon’tbeabletoexperienceeverlastingjoyandhappiness.

Alloursenseorgansfollowourmind.Whateverthemindfollows,thesenseorgansareactivatedaccordingly.Ifthemindbecomesfulloffearorsorrow,thesenseorgansgetactivatedatthattime.WhentheminddwellsinGodlythoughts,thesensesrestintheneutralcondition.Everydayminddoesnotstayinthesamestate.Thefavouritesofmindtodaymaynotbeafavouritetomorrow.Thefactthatthesamethingsoftenremainfavouritestothesenseorgansindicatesthatthesenseorgansfollowthethoughtpatternofthemind.

KriyaorPranayamshouldbepracticedwithoutanyattachment.DuringPranayam,themindshouldbefixedinKutastha.Thenonlyisitpossibletoprogressinthespiritualpath.Otherwise,theminddwellsintheoutwardsenses.

WithoutthehelpofPrana,wecannotpierce.ThatmeansusingPranapierceallthechakras.NirvanacomeswhenPranagetsdeactivated.WhenthesubtlePranahappensinourastralbody,welosephysicalsensation-thatis,wedonotfeelthatourbodyexists.

SomeAdvicetoPractitionersYogadenotesthestateinwhichmindbecomesthoughtless,desirelessandcompletelycalm.BypracticingthecorrectPranayam,allthenervesandveinsinourbodygetenrichedwithPrana(Life-Energy).Thefunctioningofthelungsbecomesveryslow.ThebodyandmindbecomesverycalmandthemindsettlesdowninAgnaChakra.Atthisstage,themindcutsoffallconnectionwiththelowerfivechakrasandautomaticallymovestowardsSahasrasar.BeforeenteringSahasrasar,thereareafewstagesthatthemindcrosses.InthesestagesdifferenttypesofSamadhitakeplace.Forthese,theYogidoesnothavetodoanything-ithappensautomatically.ThedifferenttypesofSamadhiwillbediscussedfurtherahead

2. Somedevoteeswrotetomesayingthatitisverydifficulttomaintaincelibacy.Yes,itistrue,becauseatthattimeallthefivesensesbecomeactive.However,thesesensesarecontrolledbyourmind;ifourmindbecomescalm,allthefivesenseswillbecomedeactivated.Mindistherulerofsenses.So,untilandunlessweareachievingsubtlepranayama,wefeeldifficultyincontrollingthefivesensesthroughtheeyes,ears,nose,tongueandtouch.Butthroughsattvicfoodhabits,associationwithreligiousmindedpeople,readingonlyreligiousbooks(Gita,Bible,GuruGranthSahib,etc)thinkingaboutGodandpracticingKriya,ourcharacterwillgraduallychange.

3. WhenpracticingKriya,mindbecomesmorerestlessinthebeginning.Themindimpressionsofthelastlifeandthislifebecomemoreactive.Donotworryaboutthisastheseareallobstacles,andjustkeepthemindinthecenterofAgnaChakra.ItisinourhandstodecidewhetherwewantGod(salvation)ordistraction.Everythinginthisworldistemporaryandchangeable.Wehaveforgottenhowmanytimeswehavetakenbirthanddied.Therefore,weshouldbecarefulfromnowon,takingtherightpathinordertogetsalvation.Whenwestartgettingdivinebliss,wewillstartto

pranayamauntilthepointwhenthebreathbecomesextremelysubtleandtheinnerworldbecomesclearandbrightlylit.Then,mindwillbecomefixedonthecentreofAgnachakraandaveryattractivedivineandsteadylight(Jyoti)appearsinthecentreofAgnachakrawhichistheentrypointofSushumna.ThelightweseeduringKriyaisverymuchlively;notlikethelightweseeinthematerialisticworld.

Whenweexperiencecalmnessofmindevenforaveryshorttime,whenalloursensesstopworking,whenwedon’tevenrealiseourownexistenceandgettotallyabsorbedwithintheinnerworld(divineworld)andforgetthismaterialisticworld,thenwewillbeatotallydifferentperson.Butfromtheoutside,noonewillknowthedifference.WewilllivelikeanormalpersonbutinternallywewillalwaysbeattachedtoGod(Parabastha).ThisgenerallyhappenswhenwecrosstheChitra(Manipurchakra)andthisexperiencehappensmoredeeplyasweproceedtowardsAgnachakra.ItstartsafterpiercingManipurchakrabecauseRajoGuna(restlessness)isstillpresentuntilwereachManipurchakra.

6. Asmentionedbefore,withoutgettinginitiationfromreal(Sat)GURU,onecannothavesuccessinKriyayoga.Dikshaislikeplantingaseed.Thereafter,wehavetotakecareoftheplantsothatitgrowsbiggerandstartyieldingfruit.Inthisway,inKriyayogaaftergettinginitiation,wehavetopracticeaspertheGuru’sadviceforalongtimewithpatienceandthenwewillstartgettingbliss.Ifweplantaseedtodayandexpecttogetfruittomorrow,itisabsolutelyimpossible.Therefore,wehavetohavepatienceandpracticeseriously.Correctpracticeisnecessaryforfastdevelopment.

7. CorrectpracticemeansmaintainingstrictYama,Niyama,Asana,PranayamaandPratyahar.Althoughalltheabovewrittenpointsareimportant,themostimportantpointisPranayam;thatis,simultaneouslywatchingthecentreofAgnaChakraand6+6chantingofOmwhileinhalingandexhaling.

8. UnlessanduntilwecanpracticeperfectKriya,developmentwillbeveryslowornon-existent.ButitisimpossibletodoperfectKriyainthebeginning.Therefore,dayafterday,monthaftermonth,yearafteryearweneedtopracticeKriyawithpatienceanddevotionwithoutanyexpectations.WewillbeabletodevelopourselfinKriyayoga.Itisamatterofgiveandtake.IfwewanttoenjoythematerialisticlifeandsimultaneouslypracticeKriya,wewillnotbeabletodevelopourselves.Onecannotenjoybothmaterialisticandspirituallifeatthesametime.

Hereapersonforgetshisownidentityandisreadytosacrificehisownlifeforhislovedones.Forexample,supposeapersonwithhisfamilyiswalkingbythesideofarailwaytrack.Allofasudden,heseesthathislittlesonordaughterorwifeiswalkingoverthetracksandatrainisapproachingathighspeed.Withoutthinkingofhisownlife,hejumpsandpusheshislovedoneoutofthetrackbuthehimselfgetskilled.Thispersonthinksthattheyallbelongtohim,butthatisnottrue.Itmaybethatintheirlastbirththeybelongedtosomeoneelseasawifeorsonandmaybeinthenextlifetheywilltakebirthinanotherfamily.Hemistakenlythinksthateverythingrelatedtohimishisown.

2. AhangAbhiman

Thisformofegoiswhenapersonthinksthatheishisbody.Ineverybirth,apersongetsadifferentbody.Itisjustlikechangingashirt.Whenashirtgetsold,webuyanewoneandthrowawaytheoldone.Thisisthesamewithourbody.Whenourbodygetsold,itneithercanmovenoreatproperly,anditisofnousetous.Thenonedayweleavethisbodyandgetanewone.Wearenotthebody;wearetheeternalsoulthatweforget.

3. KarmaAbhiman:

Thisiswhereapersonthinksheistheheadofhisfamily.Heisresponsibleforeverything.Everythingistobedecidedbyhimonly,etc.Thesethoughtscomefrom‘’AhangAbhiman’’.HeforgetsGodandthinksthathehimselfisthesupremeone.Heforgetsthatatanymomenthemaydie,andnevergivesthoughttothis.Inthisway,bindingcomesandthepossibilityofSalvationbecomeszero.

4. GyanAbhiman:

Thisiswhereapersonfalselyidentifiestheirtrueselfwiththatoftheirprofession,andgivesthisidentitygreatimportance.Onewhoselfidentifiesasanengineer,scientist,businessmanoradoctor,cannotovercometheirego.Theyarealwaysthinkingabouthowverysuccessfultheyareintheirlife&profession,andhowhighlyrespectedtheyareinoursociety.Theycannotovercometheegooftheirprofession.Aslongasonehasthisego,theyarenoteligibleforSalvation.

5. KartityaAbhiman:

Somepeopleareveryproudofhimselforherselfforhavingasuccessfulcareer.Theythinkthatwithoutthem,thisworldwouldnotexist.Theythinktheyarethesupremehumanbeingandtheyaretherulerofthesociety.Theyareactuallythemostabnormalperson,butdon’trealizeit.

6. DhyanAbhiman:

WhiledoingKriya,ifwealwaysthinkabouttheresults,thenwearenoteligibletodevelopourself,andgettingSalvationisimpossible.SoalwaysdoKriyawithoutanyexpectation.ThenGodwillbepleasedandblessyou.Developmenthappensautomatically.Youdonothavetoaskforit.ItisakindofgiveandtakerelationshipwithGod.Ifwegive100%wewillget100%fromGod.IfwemeditatewithanydesiretogetsomethingfromGod,thennoprogresswillhappen.Withthistypeofegowemay,forexample,haveprideofhowlongwecansitinmeditationcomparedtoothers.

1. GyanbigyanAbhiman:

2. BrahmagyanAbhiman:

Wefindinoursocietythatthosewhoarelearned,intellectual,shrewd,richandpowerfularesufferingfromtoomuchego.Tofulfilltheirdesirestheydowhatevertheylike.TheydonotbelieveinGodandtheyevensometimesdoantisocialthings.TheythinkthattheyaresuperiortoGod.ItisadvisableforthosewiththistypeofegotopractiseKriyaregularly,sothattheirmindbecomescalmandeligibleforself-realisationandsalvation.

3. VidyaAbhiman:

Lotsofpeoplewhoarehighlyqualifiedinsocietywithnameandfame,andaremateriallyorientedthinkoutofegothatmaterialisticenjoymentsareeverythinginlife.Theygenerallydonotcareforspirituallife.But,whentheystartdoingKriyaproperly,theywillrealisethat,whatevertheyhavelearnedthroughbookscan’tbecomparedwiththeknowledgetheyaregettingfromKriyayogaandthateveryonemustgetsalvationontheirown.

4. AishwaryaAbhiman:

Peoplewhoarewealthyoftensufferfromsomecomplexinwhichtheiregoincreaseswhichisagainstspirituality.Thistypeofpersonhasnochancetogetsalvation.

5. RupaAbhiman:

Thistypeofegoisthevanityofphysicalappearance.Everyonethinksthattheylookverybeautifulbutifthey,forsomereason,bythegraceofGodseetheDivineworldwiththehelpofthethirdeye,theywouldthendiscoverhowuglytheyactuallyare.ThiswouldleadthemtosurrendertoGodandgetblessings.

6. BhaktaAbhiman:

TherearetwotypesofdevotionforGod–1)Devotionwithadesireforgettingsomething,and2)Devotiononlyforsalvation.Althoughattheend,onealsohastoovercomethedesireforsalvationitself,sincetogetsalvationapersonshouldnothaveanytypeofdesire.Inthebeginning,agenuinedesireforsalvationisneeded.Thisisasattvicdesire,andrequiredformotivatingpracticeinitially.But,eventually,thisdesirewillalsogoawayandisultimatelyanobstacletosalvation.

ThefirsttypeofpersonisnotreallyseekingandlovingGod.Theyarehappywiththespiritualpowerorwhatevertheywant.Thismakesthemalsoveryproud,andtheiregoincreases.Iftheirdesiresarenotfulfilled,theyevendaretosaythatGodiscruelanddoesnotexist.TheyalsobelievethemselvestobegreatYogis,preachingtopeopleallthewrongmethodsofKriyaformoney.Theydonotgetsalvation.

ThesecondtypeofpersononlyseeksGod.Theydonotcallforanyotherthingslikemiraculouspowersoranyothermaterialisticdesires.Inexchangeforthat,theygetfivetypesofMoksha–Shalokyo,Shamipyo,Sharupa,ShastiandShajuyo.Inaddition,whentheirdevotionandloveforGodincreasesintensely,theygetsalvationintheend.

The6typesofEgowithinGyanyoga:

1. Prakruti-PurushGyanAbhiman:

Thistypeofegodescribesthosewhohavetoomuchinvolvementinandattachmenttotherelationofhusband,wifeandfamily.Thisattachmentcanbepositive,ornegative(inthecaseofpainfulrelationships),butiftheirlifeendswhilestillhavingthistypeofegoandattachment,theycannotgetsalvation.

2. GunaAbhiman:

ThistypeofegodescribesthosewhoareentangledwithinthethreeGunasi.e.Satya,RajoandTamo.TheydoworkaspertheactiveGunaatthatmoment,actingonthem.WhenSatyaGunaisactive,thepersondoesonlygoodwork,thinksonlygoodthings,andbecomesveryreligiousminded.WhenRajoGunaisactive,thesamepersonbecomesveryactiveforworkandactionandwhenTamoGunaisactive,hedoesallsortsofnegativeactionslikeharmingpeople,retainingnegativethoughts,etc.andbeinglazy.Thismeanstobeaslavetothecurrentlypredominantguna.

3. PurushaAbhiman:

Thisformofegoisrelatedtocomparingyourselftoothers.Somepeoplethink–“Iamcourageous,powerful,knowledgeable,rich”etc.Othersthinkusttheopposite:“Iamweak,ignorant,poor”,etc.Boththesetypesofthinkingorcomparisoncomefromthistypeofego.

PeoplewhoareeitherpresidentorahighlyqualifiedpersonorbusinessmanorwhobelievethatallareworkingfortheirownbenefitonlydonotrealizethattheyarearepresentativeofGodonly.Thesameistrueofthosewhoarepoorpeopleandarespendingtheirliferunningaftermoney.Therefore,nooneisseekingGod.Thesepeopledonotgetsalvationandtakebirthaspertheirdeeds.

4. Sampadabhiman:

Therearetwotypesofwealthypeople-Firsttype-Ifawealthypersonuseshiswealthforhisownenjoymentanddoesn’trememberGodsomuch.TheyrememberGodonlywhentheyneedsomething.TheSecondtypeofwealthypeopleareveryreligious,alwaysdoinggooddeeds.AllthetimetheythinkthatwhatevertheyaredoingtheyaredoingonlyforGodandevenatthetimeofdeath,theyonlythinkofGodandgotoheavenafterdeath.Ineithercase,thistypeofegowillpreventsalvation.

5. ShraddhaAbhiman:

TherearethreetypesofdevotiontowardsGod:Sattvic,RajasikandTamasik(Sattva,Rajo,Tamo).NeitherRajasiknorTamasikdevotionarehelpful.Onthecontrary,thosetypesofdevotionclosethedoorofsalvation.Ifsomeoneeatssattvicfoods,doessattvicyogalikepranayamaandhassattvicdevotion,itresultsingettingGod’sblessingandmayresultinMoksha.

6. MokshaAbhiman:

PeoplethinkthatiftheytakeSanyasthentheywillautomaticallygetMokshaorSalvation.However,itisacompletelywrongidea.OnlywhenwedevelopourselvesandpiercetheAgnaChakrawillwebeinapositiontogetMokshaandonlythenafterpiercingMulaChakramaywegetsalvation.ThatisatrueSanyas-onehavingcompletedall‘work’below

Theabovestated18typesofegoarethereasonforbinding.Inordertogetridofouregos,wehavetopracticeKriyaperfectly,maintainingYama,Niyama,Asana,PranayamandPratyahar.

Siddhi(success)inPratyahar,meansgettingMoksha,butnotSalvation.TherearethreestagesofMeditation,startingwithPratyahar(Thefirststageofmeditationwhenyouaretryingtofocusbutthoughtskeepcoming).Atthe2ndstage(afteryouachievedfullmeditationthere)youwillgetself-realization.Thisdoesn’tmeanthatyouaregettingSalvation,butyouwillgetMoksha.Itisinthis2ndstage(Dharana)where5typesofMokshacanbeexperienced.Afterself-realization,youwillcometoknowyourselfandyourtrueidentity.Afterself-realization,youknowyourselfandknowwhatyouare.Thenyouneedtokeepgoing.OnlythroughMeditationcanyoumoveforward.The5differenttypesofMokshacomefrom5typesofSamadhi(describedlater).ForexampleIfyouhavereachedthe2ndstageofSamadhi,youwillbemuchclosertoGod.AllthetimeyouseeGod,veryclosely.ThesedifferenttypesofSamadhihelpyoutogetdifferenttypesofMoksha.

Sins&VirtueDesireissomethingduetowhichthismaterialisticworldexists.Ifallhumanbeingsweretobecomedesireless,thematerialisticworldwouldnotexist.Noonewouldhavethedesiretoworktoearnmoneytofulfiltheirdesire.Noonewouldgetmarriedbecausetherewouldbenodesireforsex!Everythingwouldstop.ThatiswhyGodhasgivenusdesire-tomaintainhiscreation.

DesiredevelopsinhumansduetotheRESTLESSMIND.Inastillorcalmmindyouhavenodesireandifyouhavenodesire,thenyouhaveachievedSalvation.Whenyoureachthedesirelessstage,eventhedesireforSalvationends.

Sinsarecreatedbydesiresorwants.Tofulfillourdesirewearealwaysrunningaftermaterialisticobjects,butthisdesireneverends.Thesadpartisthatwenevertrytosearchforthereasonwhythisdesireneverends.Desiresneverendbecauseoftherestlessnessofmindwhichcomesfromgrossbreathing.So,ifwecancontrolbreathingtherewillbenodesire.

Wearealwaysthinkingsomethingmaterialistic,whetherinadreamorawakingstate.Thisthinkingcomesfromdesire.Eventhoughtsareconsidereddeedsorkarma,andthesedeedscreatedifferentresults.Butwedon’tgettheresultsofthesedeedsimmediatelybecausetheresultsofpastdeedskeepcomingoneafteranother,andpresentdeedsareputinqueuetogiveresultsinthefutureorinthenextlife.Likethis,millionsofkarmasarecreatingmillionsofbirthsforanindividual.ThesekarmasareknownasSins.

Theseresultsareendlessandbecauseofthis,itisimpossibleforustogetSalvationandwehavetocometothisworldofdeathendlessly.ThisisthegameofmayaorbindingwhichGodplayswithus.

Theresultofthesedeeds(sins)arestoredinthestorehouseofthoughts(chitta),whichwedonotrealizeexists.Atthetimeofdeath,theoutcomeofallourdeeds(goodandbad)areprojectedinfrontofus,andtheoutcomeweseeatthetimeofdeathduringthelastbreathdeterminesournextlife.Thoseofuswithsinfuldeedsgetscaredandthosewho’vedonegooddeedsexperiencesatisfaction.Thatiswhythereisaphrase‘’Ifyouknowhowtodie,youdon’thavetodoanytypeofKriya.’’

Aftercontinuoussufferingfrompastdeeds,apersoneventuallywishestogetSalvation.Inordertosucceed,heshouldchangethedirectionofhisthoughtsfromthematerialisticworldtowardsthespiritualworld.ByfollowingSatGuru’sadviceandbypracticingoriginalKriya,onegetsadivineblessing

SangjomisthestageofextremecalmnessandisacombinationofDharana(2nd.StageofMeditation),Dhyan(3rd.StateofMeditation)andSamadhi.Atthisstage,theSadhakliveslikeadeadperson,hasnodesires,nosleep,nodeath(i.e.nobreathing),nosorrow,nohungerandnoconsciousness.Itisaveryhighstage,whichisevenhigherthanSamadhi.

ANAHATASOUND

BypracticingPranayam,theNadi(channelsthroughwhichlife-forcemoves)startgettingclean,anddifferentkindsofinternalsoundscanbeheard,suchasthesoundofcrickets,bells,drums,flute,conch,roarofelephantandlionetc.etc.Sincethesearesoundsareinternal,theydonotdisturbtheKriyapractitioner.Ratherthesesoundshelpustoconcentratemore.Withpractice,asmindenterstheinnerordivineworld,thesesoundsbecomelouder.

ThetimeandeffortspentdoingthisoriginalKriyanevergetslost.Evenifyoucan’tgetsalvationinthislifetime,afterreachingacertainstageofKriya,youwilldefinitelygetthisKriyabackinyournextlife,anditwon’ttakemuchtimetoreachthestageofKriyathatyou’vealreadycompleted.Fromthatpoint,onehastopracticewithdevotiontocompletetheleftoverKriyainordertogetsalvation.So,don’tbedisheartenedifyoucannotcompletetheKriyainthislifetime.Itisverysadtofindthatmorethan99%ofKriyapractitionersaredoingthewrongKriya,andwastingtheirprecioustimeoflifeduetosomefakeGurus.

ThetantrikBabacameagainafterafewmonths,andasusualhewantedtoshowsomemiraclestohisdevoteesanddisciples.Butwhenhetried,itdidnotworkbecauseIwasdoingKriyaatthattime.AfterIfinishedKriya,Igotupandheardhewascallingmeveryloudly.SoIwentdownstairs,heimmediatelytoldallhisdevoteestoleavetheroomandclosedallthedoorsandaskedmewhatwasIdoing.Itoldhim,“whyshouldItellyou’’becauseIrememberedwhatmyGurujitoldme.Hewascompletelypowerlessandhisspiritstoldhimthattheycouldnotcomenearhim,becauseofme.Thisisauthenticproofthatnospiritcanenterwithin500yardswhenapersonispracticingKriya.
