Photos I will use in my magazine:

I am going to use this photo on my front because it is a medium close up which is the type of shot I want to use on my front cover. It also uses a direct mode of address so this fits the codes and conventions of a magazine, more specifically a music magazine. As the boy is quite young it will appeal to my target audience (primarily males 14-18 secondary females of the same age range) as they can relate to him. The dark clothing has connotations of rock music but the big smile has connotations of pop punk, this is the genre my magazine is aiming at so that is why I want to use that photo.

I am going to use this photo on my contents page because it shows someone playing the drums, and drums have connotations of rock. I am not going to use it on my front page because it is not a direct mode of address so would not attract my target audience as well as the photo I am going to use. However, I am going to use it in my contents because its an action shot of the drums and drums are an important instrument in the pop punk genre so this will appeal to my target audience when the open the magazine. It also helps include a variety of ethnicities which will help widen my target audience.

I am going to use this photo on my contents page because it shows someone playing the guitar and someone else singing. Guitar and vocals have connotations with the rock genre. So it helps portray my genre from the magazine to the audience. They are both females so this will help attract my secondary female target audience. It also attracts different ethnic groups as two ethnicities are presented. The fact that they are female allows me to inspire my female audience as they are not being objectified, instead they are being portrayed as successful musicians.

I am going to use this photo on my contents page because it shows a male singing into a microphone, his face shows emotion and a lot of rock songs are about getting emotion and feelings out into the open. He is wearing black which has connotations of the rock genre so he will appeal to my target audience. The dark clothing also keeps my images consistent as the photo would not look right if he was wearing bright pink. It also makes it clear that my genre is rock as this picture along with my other photos give a consistent connotation of rock.

I am going to use this photo on my double page spread. I will flip it so that the image is more towards the left as this photo will take up most of the left hand side of my double page spread. I am using this photo as it is another shot of Travette who is going to feature on the front cover and also is who the article will be about. His clothing connotates rock as it is dark and not flashy designer wear. He will give the page a visual appeal and make the page interesting as if the page just had text on it would not appeal to my target audience.
