Orange Regional Medical Center is at a critical crossroad in its journey to medical excellence. After providing a new

state-of-the-art acute care facility, hospital leadership now begins its first expansion program. This initiative incorporates improvements in its outpatient services, integration of satellite oncology programs into a single location for diagnostic, treatment, and support services, and the expansion of sub-specialty care and academic medicine.

“Our Foundation Board has been inspired from the very start of planning for this project. It is hard not to be inspired by what it does for our hospital, and for health care in this region,” said Foundation Board Chair Jonathan Rouis. “With that in mind, our Foundation Board is proud to announce ‘The Future is Orange’, a $3 million fundraising campaign to support this expansion program. We will ask for participation of our hospital family and the community over the next three years.”

This expansion program focuses on creating an environment for outpatient care at the same level of service, convenience, and amenities as the inpatient program. Currently, nearly all outpatient services are provided at off-campus satellite centers with leasing costs that could be better used for advancing care. Relocating them within the new medical office building and the new Spagnoli Family Cancer Center will bring higher levels of patient and family satisfaction, and in many instances, better provision of services and patient outcomes.

This is an exciting time in the hospital’s history and in the development of the region’s health care system. Donors can have significant impact on both. The campaign will seek charitable gifts from the entire hospital family, as well as gifts from area residents and businesses. Financial support to “The Future Is Orange” campaign will make Orange Regional Medical Center a destination health care and teaching campus elevated to the highest national levels of excellence.

I nspiration is key in philanthropy.

We have all been truly inspired since viewing the earliest drawings of what our hospital calls its North Campus Expansion project. Many people

we talk to about it fully understand this project’s magnitude and what it means for health care in this region. It is designed with patients and families in mind and aligns the very latest technology and treatments with the comforts and conveniences to make great health care a positive experience and... all in one place.

As a supporter of our hospital, I am certain you, too, will be inspired. You will also understand the reasoning behind The Future Is Orange campaign, and the three legs that form its structure – Cancer Care, Healing Environment, and Academic Medicine.

Our Spagnoli Family Cancer Center will be reformed and relocated entirely under one roof, providing patients with all they need for treatment and recovery. The existing infusion center will be redesigned so that patients will view a new healing garden while being treated. I hope you have also noticed articles about our recent funding of new 3D Mammography technology.

The Healing Environment initiative will strive to continue the hospital’s focus on art as medicine with a call for art for the new interior and exterior spaces.

Finally, we seek to raise money to establish a fund for our current and future medical students, empowering them to do the necessary research to move our health system, and perhaps the country’s health system, forward.

Stacy Britsch named Kiwanis Angel

Middletown Kiwanis named Orange Regional Medical Center Nurse Stacy Britsch as its August 2015 Kiwanis Angel. The Kiwanis Angel program acknowledges an outstanding pediatric caregiver at Orange Regional. The Club made a gift to the pediatric campaign in honor of Nurse Britsch.

“Stacy has single-handedly raised the level of care our pediatric patients receive by working with the pediatricians to create care-based policies based on evidence and quality outcomes,” says Karin Kuhens, Nurse Director of Pediatrics. “In addition, Stacy has provided educational classes to all the pediatric nurses.”

Healey Brothers: Drive to Care

On Saturday, October 17, Healey Brothers hosted a Driven to Care event to benefit Orange Regional’s Pediatric Center. Stewart’s Shops gave away ice cream during the event, while Fox Radio provided a live radio remote. Orange Regional Auxiliary makes generous gift of $25,000

Special thanks to the Orange Regional Auxiliary for its recent gift of $25,000 to the Lend a Hand campaign to support the Pediatric Center.

“The Auxiliary has given over $50,000 to support the Lend a Hand campaign,” Foundation President Bill Dauster said. “We are so grateful to the Auxiliary for its confidence and support.“

The Orange Regional Auxiliary hosted its annual Tricky Tray to benefit the Pediatric Center. Hundreds of people traveled from other states to attend this event. Korn’s Campgrounds remembers Mr. Korn with pediatric donation

Korn’s Campgrounds in Middletown, N.Y. hosted a horseshoe tournament to benefit the Orange Regional Pediatric Center. They recently presented $2,000 they raised in support of the Pediatric Center.

“We chose to support the Pediatric Center because Mr. Korn loved children. He and his wife ran numerous kids-centered campground events. I am among the children who grew up with great memories at the campground,” said Event Co-Chair Patrick Dineen. “Mr. Korn was a strong and determined man who touched many people’s hearts in the community. After Mr. Korn died, we chose to support something we know Mr. Korn loved.”

Orange Regional Medical Group is pleased to announce it has expanded its reach by opening a new primary care location in Monroe, N.Y. The beautiful and spacious office provides increased accessibility to family health care for residents in Monroe and the surrounding areas. T he new Oncology Reiki Room was revealed at a ribbon cutting celebrating the generous

contributions of the Corinne Feller Memorial Fund. The Fund was named for Corinne Feller, an Orange County resident who passed away at 18 after a 10-month battle with ovarian cancer. It was created by Corinne Feller’s sister, Nicole Feller Lee, and their parents, Anita and Ronald Feller. This fall, the Corinne Feller Memorial Fund made a generous gift to support the expansion of the Orange Regional Reiki program to seven additional hospital inpatient units, including Critical and Intensive Care, Bone and Joint, and Inpatient Rehabilitation. Y ou can reduce your taxes by making a gift from your IRA to charity. An IRA rollover is a simple and easy way for you to use your IRA to help us fulfill our mission.

If you are like many donors, you could be paying higher taxes this year. By transferring some of your IRA required distribution to us, you can lower your taxable income. With low taxable income, you can reduce your income and capital gains taxes this year. Check with your advisor to see how an IRA rollover gift could impact your taxes while helping our cause.

Recently, Congress reauthorized the IRA rollover. This means that if you are 70 ½ or older, you can make a charitable gift up to $100,000 from your IRA. Your gift will qualify for your required minimum distribution, and you will not have to pay federal income tax on the amount given from your IRA to charity.

The opportunity to make a charitable deduction from an IRA and have it count toward your required minimum distribution (RMD) was extended late last year, but expired for 2015. The House has passed the American Give More Act of 2015 which permanently restores what is called a qualified charitable distribution (QCD). The Senate has not passed this so we are still in limbo as to QCDs for 2015.

What you could do is make a distribution directly from your IRA to a qualified charity, like Orange Regional Medical Center. This way, if the QCD rules are reinstated, you’re all set. If they aren’t reinstated, you just claim the amount contributed as income, and then report the donation as an itemized deduction. You’ll have a taxable distribution and a tax deductible contribution. As explained below, this may not be as advantageous as a QCD, but if you were going to donate to charity anyway, it doesn’t matter.

To make an IRA rollover gift, simply contact your custodian and request that an amount be transferred to us. Your gift could be $1,000, $10,000, $50,000, or even up to $100,000. Contact us at the Foundation Office to learn more about how you can redirect unneeded IRA income to charity, help further our mission, and enjoy valuable tax savings this year.

In the course of good planning, consult with your tax advisor to determine if this meets your overall financial goals.

If you are not ready to make a gift to us from your IRA this year, consider making a charitable bequest. A bequest of part or all of your IRA permits you to make full use of your funds during your lifetime. We benefit in the future from what remains. Your plan custodian can provide you with a form to designate us as beneficiary of your IRA. Please contact us at 845-333-2333 if you wish to learn more about making a bequest.

Margolis, MD Medical Director, Breast Center. “This test will result in fewer image call-backs, an often stressful experience for the patient.”

• Bariatric surgery table has a higher weight capacity. This purchase represents the replacement of equipment.

The Orange Regional Child Life Specialist often use play therapy to help kids through the anxiety and pain of illness. We use donated toys to help a child take their mind off how they feel and stimulate their thoughts in a powerful and productive manner.
