Presentation

Ortuella is a town and municipality located in the province of Biscay , in the Autonumous of Basque Country, northern Spain. Ortuella bordered to the north and Portugalete Santurce, Galdames the south, east to the Valley and west Trapagaran Abanto-Zierbena.

HistoryOrtuella's origins are attached to the town of Santurce, which was part until 1901. Mount Triano was known for its richness in iron. This exploitation is happening wine for centuries, feeding ore to the ironworks of Biscay. In the mid-nineteenth century with the industrial revolution and the emergence of the blast furnace produces a large mining development.Emerging mining township born with very poor living conditions and populated by immigrant workers.

Neighborhoods Cadegal: 46 inhabitants. The Orconera: 39 inhabitants. Nocedal: 204 inhabitants. Ortuella: 7475 inhabitants. Triano: 10 inhabitants. Urioste: 803 inhabitants.

San Felix de Cantalicio churchThe church is

dedicated to the patron of the municipality. It opened in 1889, was built through collaboration of the industrial mining Felix Chavarri. Under the patronage of San Felix de Cantalicio, in honor and in gratitude to his benefactor, on July 3, 1889 was inaugurated the building and obtained the status of parish in 1928.

City Council OrtuellaThis building has over 100 years old and located in the Plaza 1 º de Mayo s / n. In 1905 it became the new headquarters of the council until now.The public square, where it is located, was built in 1885 to celebrate festivals and other activities.

Oven Karobi

It represents the town's mining past. Built in 1958, worked for a short period, along with his five brothers who disappeared in constructing the machinery of the quarry. These Cuba cylindrical furnaces can still be visited.

MonumentsMonument to mining in Vizcaya

Tribute to the figure of miners in Biscay. It was built on December 21, 1990 at the Park Plaza-Otxartaga.

The work was done by local sculptor

Luis Alcalde.

Monument to the borer

 His job was to make a hole in the rock with an iron bar

and then plant the explosives, blasting to

extract the ore and thus more easily. Located in the

N-634, near the fronton municipal.

Monument to Catalina Gibaja

 Monument erected in honor of Master Gibaja

Catalina. This monument carved in stone was made

in December 1995 by local sculptor Mr Lucas

Mayor, in honor of which was for many years

Ortuella teacher, also one of the town streets named

after him.

Truncated Flower Monument

Monument in memory of those killed in the gas explosion of schools in 1980. Located on Miner Avenue near the Health

Center.

Mural "POR AMOR AL ARTE"

The Mural was conducted by ten local artists and is located

at Av Station No. 1.
