INTRODUCTION

Industry Standard

Tire has developed a wide range of tire patterns and specifications, so that the proper Off-The-Road (OTR) tire can be matched to any vehicle, service, or operating condition.

Canyon OTR tires are designed and manufactured to meet the commonly accepted international standards set by the TRA (Tire and Rim Association) in the U.S.A., by the ETRTO (European Tire and Rim Technical Organization) in Europe, and/or by the JATMA (Japan Automobile Tire Manufacturers’ Association) in Japan*.

The following measurements strictly follow these standards: Load capacities, inflation pressures, dimensions (such as overall tire diameter and width), as well as the relative rim and tube valves.

If a tire is to be used for a purpose other than that for which it is originally intended, please consult Canyon

OTR for reference on application and use.

DEFINITIONS

Tire Size - The size of each tire is indicated by nominal width and rim diameter in inches and mm. Radial structure is indicated by the letter “R”. For some tires the aspect ratio is indicated by percentage.

Radial Tire 40.00R57, 33.25R35, 445/95R25

Bias Tire 30.00-51, 45/65-45

Star Rating, Ply Rating and Load Index - The load capacity of a tire is indicated by the star rating (in case of a radial tire) and the ply rating (in case of a bias tire).*The load index is applied in countries where the ETRTO standards are used.

Overall Diameter (OD) - “Overall Diameter” is twice the section height of a new tire, plus the normal rim diameter, and including 24-hour inflation growth.

Overall Width (OW) - “Overall Width” is the width of a new tire, including 24-hour inflation growth, and including protective side ribs bars or decorations.

Section Width (SW) - “Section Width” is the width of a new tire, including 24-hour inflation growth and normal sidewalls; BUT, not including protective side ribs, bars, or decorations.

Static Loaded Radius and Width (SLR, SLW) - “Static Loaded Radius” is the shortest distance from the axle center to the contact surface of a tire. “Static Loaded Width” is the overall width of a tire mounted on the approved rim at the specified inflati on pressure, placed still and vertically on a flat board, and loaded with the specified load.

Original Tread Depth (OTD) - “Original Tread Depth” is the tread depth of a new tire measured at the point of the tread-indicator (where available); OR, one-fourth the width of the tire crown section from the crown center, and including 24-hour inflation growth.

Section Height (SH) - “Section Height” is the distance from the heel of the bead to the crown section of the tire, and includes the original tread depth.

Aspect Ratio – “Aspect Ratio” is represented as a percentage to determine the Section Height.

Speed Rating - “Speed Rating “is represented by an alpha symbol on the sidewall and is defined as the maximum continuous speed allowed for a pre-determined period of one hour.

Ton Kilometer per Hour (TKPH) - “Ton Kilometer per hour” is a formulated representation of the amount of work that is applied to a tire over a specified period of one hour.

The TKPH formula will ensure optimum performance from OTR Tires. This formula MUST be adhered to. Failure to do so will result in premature failure of the tire due to excessive heat buildup. To avoid excessive heat buildup, a tire with a TKPH rating that is higher than that of the work rate calculated must be selected.

Each tire position on the machine must be calculated and considered individually. A position with the highest average tire load should be selected.

For imperial measurements; Ton Mile per Hour (TMPH): the formula remains the same, noting (TMPH) figures must be selected from the (TKPH)-(TMPH) data fields.

*Any tire or tires found to be working outside of their recommended TKPH-TMPH will NOT be subject to manufacturer’s warranty.

There are 3 primary earthmover tire families which are categorized by the aspect ratio H/S (The ratio between the sidewall and the height and the tire width).

100 SERIES OR STANDARD TIRE

The H/S aspect ratio is approximately equal to 1.00

The section width, given in inches, is to 2 decimal places.e.g. 18.00R33

Design Tread-Depth

80 SERIES OR WIDE BASE

The H/S aspect ratio is approximately equal to 0.80

The section width, given in inches, is a whole number followed by a fraction.e.g. 20.5R25Or the section width is given in inches followed by the number 80.e.g. 59/80R63

65 SERIES

The H/S aspect ratio is approximately equal to 0.65

The section width is given in inches or in millimeters followed by the number 65.e.g. 35/65-33
