Dear Colleagues

Over the summer we had several inquiries about developing a “Media Plan” to help support efforts for those embracing World Ostomy Day, Step Up for Ostomy awareness and fund raising platform. Please find attached a working document about such a Plan which includes how you might be able to “pitch” a story to local Media – TV, radio, print and some ideas on how to prep for the story and interview. We are very fortunate to have on our Step Up Planning Committee – Joel Jacobson – a highly regarded and award winning journalist from Halifax. He is also a really great guy and avid baseball fan.

If you have any questions, feel free to connect with Joel or myself.

PS: ... In the coming weeks leading up to World Ostomy Day (October 2, 2021) we will be sending additional information of tips to generate awareness for World Ostomy Day and Step Up for Ostomy. Stay Tuned.

Thank you for your support of our vision – Canada’s voice and agent of change for people living with an ostomy.

Regular follow-up in the first year after surgery is essential to

prevent and address possible complications.

Six to eight weeks after ostomy surgery, all ostomy patients should see a

Nurse Specialized in Wound, Ostomy and Continence

(NSWOC / Ostomy Nurse Specialist).

It is also wise to see your NSWOC three months and then six months after surgery to monitor

your ostomy and skin health.

If the hospital where you had your surgery does not offer out-patient follow-up, ask your pharmacy or clinic where you

buy your supplies if they offer Ostomy Nurse consultations.

For information on contacting a Nurse Specialist in Wound, Ostomy & Continence, go to www.ostomycanada.ca/support/find-a-nswoc/

OASC’s nurse is: Jennifer Brewer RN BScN CETN(C) - Enterostomal Therapy Nurse or NSWOC. To consult her, you need a referral to Dr. Lisi, General Surgeon in Collingwood.
