Page 2: OST OLY RINITY...The Trinity is God's plan for an ongoing dialogue with God so that we are not abandoned but secure in the fact that God is a part of everything we do and can accomplish

We begin Ordinary Time with the Feast of the Holy Trinity. This feast celebrates the unique relationship that the Father, Son and Holy Spirit share with each other and their relationship with all of us. We begin each liturgy with the Sign of the Cross, recognizing our ongoing relationship with the Trinity. We baptize infants and adults and bless ourselves with holy water using the Trinitarian formula.

Rev. Andrew Greeley, the noted American Catholic theologian and sociologist, describes the Trinity this way, “the Father is the God who creates; the Son is the God who speaks; the Spirit is the God who calls”. The Father created the world, all that is in it and all of us. He did this to share his love with all of us, hoping that we will care for our world and for one another. The Father then sent the Son, who lived, died and rose for us all. But Jesus also spoke a message of friendship and love on behalf of his Father, not just with words but especially with actions. Jesus is the Word made flesh, the reality of the Father who would not allow sin and death to end it all, thus preventing us from experiencing his presence in our lives. The Father and Son sent the Spirit as the ongoing presence of God in our lives. The Spirit motivates and challenges us to live as followers of Jesus, and to use our gifts to help make the Kingdom of God a reality for all.

While the Trinity is a mystery that cannot be explained but must be believed, it is the presence of God in our world, our lives and our church that reminds us of our continued need for God and the gift of his presence and love in our life. But the Trinity is also a call to holiness and goodness, an ongoing opportunity to discover and become immersed in this unique relationship. The Trinity is God's plan for an ongoing dialogue with God so that we are not abandoned but secure in the fact that God is a part of everything we do and can accomplish. When we are immersed with God and his love for us we discover who we are as beautiful creatures of God and tabernacles of his Holy Spirit. Our life then becomes a reflection of everything we believe about God and his expectation for us, which is to radiate the presence of Christ by our fidelity to him.

Today, at the 12:00 Mass, we will celebrate Quinquennial with those couples from our parish who are observing wedding anniversaries that are multiples of five years. They will renew their vows in the presence of all of us, and there will be refreshments following the Mass in the Gathering Area.

Next Sunday is Father's Day, and we will have the blessing of all our dads. It is also the Feast of the Body and Blood of Christ (Corpus Christi). Following the 12:00 Mass, there will be a procession with the Eucharist around our property, which will conclude with Benediction. Processions have always been an important part of church worship, and this is especially true on this feast. I invite you to join us for the procession, even though you may have been at a different Mass this weekend.

On Saturday, May 27, there was a Mass in Italian for Madonna della Carmine. In celebration of the feast, $138 was collected and given to church. GRAZIE, TUTTI ITALIANI!!!

~ FR. JOE

Congratulations to our eighth grade who crossed over into the ranks of the Saint James Alumni in a traditional cap and gown graduation ceremony held Friday evening in Church. Having completed a curriculum that meets and exceeds the NJ State Standards, Saint James graduates are prepared to meet the challenges of high school and do well. The Class of 2017 has been awarded over $480,000 in scholarship funds. They are a tribute to their parents and guardians who sacrificed much to send them to a Catholic school. May they continue to reflect the abundance and generosity of God.

Congratulations to the Saint James Class of 2017 ~ best wishes in high school!

SIX MONTHS ‘TIL CHRISTMAS AND THE CUPBOARDS ARE BARE!

Food pantries commonly receive an abundance of food donations around the holidays. So much so that their pantries overfloweth! But around this time of year food is dwindling, donations are low and the cupboards are bare. Help to stock them up in order that they may feed the hundreds of homeless and working poor from now until Christmas when donations are plentiful again. Kindly drop of non-perishable goods after all Masses the weekend of June 24th and 25th. Help us fill those cupboards so many do not go hungry! For information please contact Lisa Gillo or Kim Mailley.
