This fascinating building on the campus of the Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio, represents ingenuity, creativity, and functionality combined together. The building serves as a Central Chiller Plant designed to offer the Medical District of the OSU a sustainable solution. The Chiller Plant will cool the water in the summer and warm it up during the winter, enabling the medical facility to provide better provisions for the patients. The architectural challenge was to hide the equipment inside and yet make it artistic. HALFEN HTA Anchor Channels offered the desired benefits. HALFEN embeds not only covered, hid, and protected the curtain wall, offering complete adjustability, but also eliminated welding or drilling the clip attachments. The fins, attached with HALFEN HTA Anchor Channels were positioned to allow the sunlight to shine through and create the artistic design with the colors. Depending on the time of day and the sun’s position, the colors of the building change vividly. All of the strip windows were attached with HALFEN HTA Anchor Channels in the pre-cast panels to allow for the adjustability for the fins to be positioned correctly and to hide the connections in the concrete. The project has received Platinum LEED Certification and is built using only galvanized steel. The building was finished in 2015 and promises to be a long time success. This was a special design for a “Chiller” Plant next to a very modern hospital and visible on Campus. The architectural challenge was to hide the equipment inside and yet make it artistic.

HALFEN supported the design team by providing technical engineering services, which are always available to HALFEN customers.
