Instructor ConsoleUsing a the D/3® Instructor Station, classroom instructors can control up to six simultaneous plant simulations, each with three operator display stations controlling di�erent process areas of the plant. A total of eighteen student operators can be supported under the six plant simulation con�guration. Student operators are exposed to all major Ethanol process operations from managing grind and fermentation to evaporation and process recovery/by-products. The simulation model allows operators to be trained and tested on both normal and abnormal plant conditions as well as recovery procedures.
Student Operator StationsAn Operator Control Module provides real-time process visualization with scalable vector graphics and traditional operator console readouts. Documentation, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and instructional content can be embedded as custom graphic objects.
The expansion of the Ethanol and Biofuels industry is a welcome trend in energy diversity, and brings with it an equally strong demand for quali�ed plant operators, technicians and management personnel. The NovaTech Ethanol Training Simulator (NETS) is a state-of-the-art process simulation of a working ethanol plant intended to help Ethanol producers and academic institutions familiarize operators with the real-time dynamics and process fundamentals of dry mill ethanol plant processes in a classroom environment.
NETS is built on the D/3® Distributed Control System (DCS), the process automation system used to control the largest ethanol plants in the United States and multiple Biodiesel facilities worldwide. NETS includes an award-winning Ethanol Operations curriculum created by Minnesota West Community & Technical College in partnership with the industry’s leading experts on distillation, fermentation, and other aspects of ethanol production. NETS will provide plant management, engineers, operators and students with a powerful and cost e�ective tool for optimizing production performance. Award-Winning CurriculumDeveloped by Minnesota West Community and Technical College, the NETS academic curriculum draws on the experience of top industry professionals. Students gain familiarity with the basics of chemistry, biology, and process control in an integrated series of classroom exercises. These fundamentals are then applied to a comprehensive range of simulations from start-up to shut down and crisis recovery.
Industry-Leading TechnologyNETS is built on the D/3® Distributed Control System (DCS), the process automation system used by the largest ethanol production facilities in the United States. NETS uses the D/3 TotalVision® Process HMI graphics engine for process visualization and a powerful Sequence and Batch Language (SABL) for automated control and simulation. The D/3® DCS handles all of the sequence logic, alarming, data collection, and trending for the NETS and is the backbone of the application. TotalVision is an object oriented HMI package which provides the operator interface using dynamic information, detailed graphics, multi-level pop-ups and animation to show the current operating conditions in the NETS. TotalVision can also be used to access data from other computer systems and applications, including lab and maintenance systems as well as Microsoft® applications.
Customization and Support ServicesThe NETS solution includes a three-year Facets® Support Agreement that ensures the reliable operation of your classroom simulator. It also includes training services for classroom instructors and customization of the Con�gurable Ethanol Application to accommodate plant and feedstock speci�cs.
Ongoing DevelopmentNovaTech is an industry leader in the integration and automation of a number of alternative and renewable energy applications including Biodiesel production, wind farm and solar �eld SCADA, Smart Grid infrastructure projects, Biomass gasi�cation, and pyrolysis.
