CRACK DEPTH METERRMG 4015

Crack depth gauge RMG 4015 measures crack depths on workpieces of iron, ferrous and austenitic steels and can also be used for cracks in copper, brass, aluminium and other non-ferrous metals.It operates due to the potential probe principle: A probe with four spring-loaded and gilded contact pins is positioned across the crack to be measured on the workpiece. A constant alternating current is passed via two of the pins into the workpiece; the two other pins measure the voltage drop across the crack, where the crack depth is derived from. The a.c. of the instrument utilizes the skin effect, which forces the current flow to the surface of the conductor and therefore follows the contour of the crack. The operation and measured value formation are monitored by the microprocessor of the gauge. In addition to common cracks running in most cases perpendicularly to the surface, the real life often shows oblique cracks, where usually it is not the expansion of the cracks which is of interest, but the oblique orientation and the projection with reference to the surface. If you know these measures it can be decided whether the post-treatment of a workpiece with cracks is technically possibly and economically reasonable. Therefore the instrument was equipped with an additional measuring function for the determination of oblique cracks, which permits to determine the inclination of the crack with respect to the material surface.

ACFM CRACK DEPTH MEASUREMENT

The AMIGO represents a significant advance in ACFM topside inspection technology. The new instrument has all the advantages of ACFM inspection but in a smaller, lighter package, and with the added benefits of a longer battery life and support for simple array probes. The system provides: Rapid scanning using a hand-held probe. Reliable crack detection and sizing (length and depth). Dual frequency option 5kHz (for ferritic and non-ferrous metals). Rugged site unit, IP54 rated. At least 5 hour operation on one fully-charged battery pack, no need to clean to bare metal. AMIGO ACFM CRACK MICROGAUGE

FEATURES OF THE ATI SYSTEM The new ATI system comprises a master control unit, based around TSCs rugged, battery-powered Amigo ACFM instrument. This is significantly lighter than the previous system, and also supports use of a higher operating frequency for increased sensitivity on non-ferrous components. The system is controlled by a standard laptop PC, which can be supplied as a rugged version if required.The ATI system has been designed to reduce the requirement for skilled operators and to allow drill string thread inspection data to be available for audit. Having the ability to detect, locate and size defects without the need for operator interpretation.

The Model U31 Underwater ACFM Crack Microgauge represents a significant

advance in ACFM subsea inspection technology. The new instrument has all

the advantages of ACFM inspection available on other TSC instruments, but in

a much smaller, lighter package designed specifically for diver deployment.

ULTRASONIC INSPECTION OF HEAT EXCHANGER TUBES

IRIS INSPECTION SYSTEM Brief description of IRIS ultrasonic principle

The IRIS 9000 employs an ultrasonic immersion pulse echo technique. The ultrasonic transducer is contained in a test head which fits into and is centred in the heat exchanger tube. The ultrasonic pulses are emitted along a path parallel with the tube axis. These pulses are then reflected by a rotating 45-degree mirror so that they are directed radically onto the tube wall Reflections from the inner and outer walls follow the same path back to the transducer. The time interval between the first echo from the internal surface of the tube and the first echo from the outside surface of the tube can be used to represent the tube wall thickness. As the mirror rotates, the ultrasonic beam is traversed around the tube circumference and each successive pulse is mapped out as a horizontal scan line on the screen of the IRIS 9000. There are a 192 readings per revolution and 2400 revolutions per minute. When the probe is advanced along the tube at the optimum inspection rate of 2.54 meters (100") per minute, the ultrasonic pulses paint a continuous helical path on the tube wall ensuring 100% coverage. The results are the most definitive yet to be invented for the inspection of air cooled and liquid cooled tube bundle heat exchangers.
