National Honor Society and Beta Club Induction

Theme of 2015-16: Gratitude

I don’t know about you, but I often have to be reminded that I have so many reasons to be thankful. I have a great family, a fantastic church, and a job where I am paid to share the gospel of Jesus Christ to students and families. Really – what more could I want? However, there are times that I find myself complaining, and gratitude is nowhere to be found. However, in God’s Word, Paul states in I Thess. 5:18 to “give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” Therefore, it is God’s will for us as believers to give thanks, not just in the good circumstances but in all circumstances. That verse continues to convict me and reminds me to have a thankful heart for not only the good things in my life but also in the difficult times.

As a school we are very blessed and have many reasons to be thankful. I am thankful that we have been able to have a school that has been focusing on Kingdom Education for the past twenty years! I am thankful for the members of Green Street Baptist Church who carried out the vision to start our school. In addition, I am thankful for families (like yours) that have placed their faith in us to educate their students. I am also thankful that God has assembled an awesome faculty and staff that not only effectively educates our students but also demonstrates love in a Christ-like manner.

On a personal note, I am thankful that I have a personal God who loves me unconditionally and has made a way for me to have a relationship with Him through His son, Jesus. It is my hope and prayer that you have embraced that same promise. Continue to practice gratitude this year!!

Thankful for each of you –

Mr. Keith Curlee Head of School

HPCA high school students that met academic standards and character qualities were inducted into the Beta Club and National Honor Society. HPCA inducted 21 students to the National Honor Society bringing the total to 37. HPCA inducted 43 students to the Beta Club for total 95.

STUDENTSPOTLIGHT Andrew Myers is a HPCA lifer, attending preschool through 12th grade. “After being at the academy for almost fifteen years, it is surreal that I am a senior. Senior year has been fantastic so far and I am focusing on enjoying every moment in my final year. It is hard to ignore that my days at HPCA as a student are numbered, and I will miss the HPCA family tremendously. I would say my fondest memories at HPCA include getting to personally know each and every one of my teachers and making friends, many that I’ve known since kindergarten. During high school, I have been privileged to play varsity football for four years. I am the starting offensive lineman for a very talented Cougar football team, and was named Homecoming King. I have also had a great time in Concert Choir for the past four years. Serving as student body President this year, it’s been my goal to be a positive leader for my peers, striving to make this a special year. I enjoy working with my dad on our family farm and having great talks with my mother every day after school. I aspire to attend NC State and obtain a degree in Crop Production.”

Five years ago, HPCA parents, Jason and Stephanie Davis, found themselves at a place in their marriage where there were two options. They could choose to continue down the same old self-destructive path or they could abandon the lukewarm Christian life and truly become a living sacrifice. On June 8, 2012, the couple renewed their vows, dedicated their marriage and family as instruments to be used in God’s hand and finally stepped into the life He had planned for them. Since then, they have poured themselves into the youth at a small church located in

Greensboro. Jason serves alongside the associate pastor in mentoring the young men and women of Community Baptist Church, while Stephanie has taken on the role as the director of the children’s ministry.

Not only has God given them a heart for the youth of this world, but He has also given them a heart to encourage, inspire and enlighten the lives of women. Together, Jason and Stephanie have locked arms with Encouragement Café whose mission is to stir the Spirit one cup at a time through laughter, love, and stories. Stephanie serves as the team leader for the devotions team as well as the bible study team. She has also had the privilege to become part of Encouragement Café’s writer’s team and speaker’s team. It is her desire to always be willing to be completely transparent so that Jesus may be seen in and through her. Jason serves as the chairman of the board of directors. Although they have been given many opportunities to share the love of Christ with others, their most treasured opportunity lies within the hearts of their children. Jason and Stephanie were blessed to become the parents of two precious little ladies, Dallas and Mikena, who are truly princesses indeed. The road has not always been easy and they have definitely made mistakes along the way, but they are committed to reaching their children with the cause of Jesus Christ and teaching them that He, and He alone, is worth whatever the cost.

“For what will it profit us if we gain the whole world and forfeit the souls of our children?”

Their motto as parents - paraphrased from Matthew 16:26
