We envision a future where everyone has access to plentiful, healthy food. This vision cannot be achieved without the support of our partners, donors and volunteers. We are humbled by your generosity and appreciate the time you have spent to help us raise the funds needed to support the Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County.

The work we are doing now brings us closer to accomplishing this goal. We thank you for joining us on this journey of creating a future without hunger in Orange County.

GRATEFULLY,

From Our Heart to Yours

THANKS TO HARVESTERS’ EFFORTS IN 2018, THE FOOD BANK WAS ABLE TO ACCOMPLISH THE FOLLOWING:

DEAR FRIENDS, I’m excited to roll up my sleeves and begin my work leading Second Harvest and to partner with Harvesters in closing the Orange County meal gap. The dedicated and talented team at Second Harvest has worked hard to reach the halfway mark in our Bold Goal, and we are grateful to have you, one of the preeminent fundraising groups in our community, at our side in this fight to end hunger.

We still have a meal gap. There are men, women, seniors and children in our communities – people you may encounter every day - who need our help. It might be the cashier at your grocery store, the person bussing tables at your favorite restaurant, or that nice Lyft driver who drove you to the airport. In Orange County there are still too many individuals and families who don’t get food when they’re hungry.

Every year we continue to grow our meal distribution to reach our Bold Goal of ending hunger. Last year, your generosity helped us access more food and supported our work with more than 200 community partners to increase the number of meals they distribute, taking nutritious food that last mile to the tables of those in need.

Last year Harvesters helped us provide the equivalent of 25.1 million meals to Orange County residents at risk of going hungry, with Harvesters directly contributing to the distribution of more than 3 million meals.

SECOND HARVEST FOOD BANK WAS HONORED TO RECEIVE CHARITY NAVIGATOR’S COVETED 4-STAR RATING LAST YEAR. ATTAINING A 4-STAR RATING VERIFIES THAT SECOND HARVEST ADHERES TO THE SECTOR BEST PRACTICES AND EXECUTES OUR MISSION IN A FINANCIALLY EFFICIENT WAY, OUTPERFORMING MOST OTHER CHARITIES IN AMERICA.

• More than 1.6 MILLION MEALS to over 100,000 CHILDREN, plus their families and neighborhood seniors (42,000 households) through 32 MOBILE SCHOOL PANTRIES

• The equivalent of 4,559,790 pounds (3,799,825 meals) of food through 53 MOBILE PANTRIES

• The equivalent of 1.2 MILLION MEALS to vulnerable seniors through our Senior Grocery Program

• The equivalent of 630,142 MEALS AT 3 PERMANENT SCHOOL PANTRIES

Your support of our mission is truly impressive and I look forward to forging ahead together to achieve our Bold Goal of ending hunger in Orange County.

Thank you again for your partnership and with gratitude, HARALD HERRMANN, CEO • 72.6% of the food we distributed last year

was nutritious, fresh produce or perishables

• Supplied food to more than 200 LOCAL NON-PROFITS

• Opened the third Permanent School Pantry, La Colonia Market. The 3 pantries SERVED MORE THAN 6,000 PEOPLE, 40% OF THEM BEING CHILDREN

• The Mobile School Pantries visited 30 SCHOOLS and provided more than 1.6 MILLION MEALS to more than 100,000 CHILDREN, their families and others

• Supported four on-campus College Pantries that fed 23,000 students

• The Kids Cafes served more than 2,500 MEALS to kids every school day at more than 50 LOCATIONS

YOUR GENEROUS SUPPORT HELPED SECOND HARVEST DISTRIBUTE:

OUR CAMPAIGN TO END HUNGER IN ORANGE COUNTY

Page 9: OUR CAMPAIGN TO€¦ · Qualifying partners will receive a Letter of Intent (LOI) which details the requirements needed to qualify for the grant. Received applications will be reviewed

In 2018, Harvesters awarded the first $25,000 grant to a Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County (SHFB) Partner - GIVING CHILDREN HOPE. The award was given based on their plan to use innovative ways to increase their capacity to feed the hungry in Orange County. Harvesters have generously opened this grant opportunity again for 2019 and will continue to award deserving organizations annually.

This year, Harvesters will award up to $25,000 to one or more non-profits that currently meet SHFB’s application criteria. Qualifying partners will receive a Letter of Intent (LOI) which details the requirements needed to qualify for the grant. Received applications will be reviewed by a committee from SHFB and a maximum of 6 nominees will be chosen. The nominees will then be presented to the Harvesters’ Advisory Board for review and final selection. The recipient(s) of the Harvesters Innovative Service Award will be announced in the fall of 2019.
