Summer 2016 Class Offerings

Design a Better World Grade Level 5-8 Tuesdays, 9-10 a.m. Starting June 28th for 8 Weeks Registration: $400

Students will have the opportunity to design solutions to problems of increasing complexity, beginning with a very simple task

of designing a chair for a character from the Simpsons, to designing a smart backpack for a middle-schooler, to investigating

their immediate community to identify a need that can be met, while learning how to collaborate effectively with others.

Write on! Creating Your Own Short Story Grade Level 7-10 Tuesdays, 7-8 p.m. Starting June 28th for 8 Weeks Registration: $400

With guidance from a master teacher/storyteller and virtual interactions with peers, students will work toward completing a

short story that they conceive, develop, test, and share with readers over the course of eight weeks.

Real Life, Real Problems, Real Math, Real Solutions Grade Level 7-9 Wednesdays, 9-10 a.m. Starting June 29th for 8 Weeks Registration: $400

This project-based advanced algebra course is designed to encourage students to discover how math is used in the real world

to solve a range of small and big problems through fun, engaging and challenging activities!

Socratic Seminar: A Novel or a Philosophy? Ayn Rand’s Anthem Grade Level 8-12 Thursdays, 9-10 a.m. Starting June 30th for 8 Weeks Registration: $400

This course explores the tenets of American literature through the use of Socratic Seminar in which students analyze, discuss,

and reflect on a great American novel they all read.

Take the Lead! A Personalized Academic Journey Grade Level 7-12 Independent Study Flexible Start Date for 9 Weeks Registration: $500

Set your academic goals for summer, break them down into manageable targets, and develop a plan for achieving them that

you follow through on—all with guidance from a college professor. By the end of summer, you will have surpassed your expec-

tations and have acquired life long skills and techniques that will help you successfully navigate school, college, and beyond.

Free Chips and Salsa Grade Level 7-10 Wednesdays, 7-8 p.m. Starting June 29th for 8 Weeks Registration: $400

This advanced-intermediate course will engage students in real-life communication in Spanish through taking on the role of a

food truck owner with weekly challenges that will culminate in the creation of a commercial.
