On the sixth anniversary of the tragedy inSmolensk on April 10, 2010, the Polishcommunity in the United States seeks tohonor the memory of the victims andexpress solidarity with their families andthose who continue to strive to discover thefull truth about the airplane crash. The observance of the sixth anniversaryof the Smolensk airplane crash will beheld on April 16-17, 2016, at the AmericanCzestochowa, with guests from Poland, theUnited States and Canada in attendance.

The Third Polish-American SociohistoricalConference will be held on Saturday (April16) under the theme “Building a CommonPatriotic Front: Polonia Semper Fidelis”.Speakers will include Father Rafal Walczyk,prior of the American Czestochowa,journalist Ewa Stankiewicz and Dr. TeofilLachowicz of the Polish Army VeteransAssociation (PAVA). The guests will alsoinclude Marion Smith, director at TheVictims of Communism Memorial Foun -dation in Washington. Topics will includean assessment of the status of Polishcommunity organizations, PAVA’s efforts to

Dear Members,

This year marks thefor tieth anniversary ofthe foundation of thePolish & Slavic FederalCredit Union. OnDecember 27, 1976,the Board of the Natio -nal Credit Union Administration (NCUA)entered the PSFCU in the federal register andour Credit Union formally began operations.

From the very first day, the Polish & SlavicFederal Credit Union has been a part of thefamily life of every member of our CreditUnion by fulfilling their financial needs suchas holding a savings account or a credit card,taking out a car loan or a mortgage. Every yearthe PSFCU has increasingly grown into thefabric of the Polish community, first beco minga regular part of Greenpoint, then of other partsof New York and New Jersey, and for over fiveyears also in the Chicago area.

Throughout these forty years, our CreditUnion has really changed the lives ofthousands of people. Many of them, thanksto investments in real estate through PSFCUmortgage loans, have achieved real financialsuccess. PSFCU has positively influencedentire neighborhoods; take for example NewYork’s Greenpoint, which has changed froma run-down neighborhood, hardly attractivefor investors, to one of the most dynamic realestate markets in the entire US. During these40 years, our Credit Union also bore tremen -dous influence on the shape and activities ofthe life of the Polish community. Providingfinancial support to hundreds of Polishschools, parishes and organizations, we have

made a contribution to their significant growth.Of course, all of these successes are

predominantly thanks to our Credit Unionmembers, who now number over 86,000.Our growth is also the result of efforts andprofessionalism of several hundred employeesand volunteers who have worked for yearsfor the benefit of our Credit Union. However,I would like to pay a special homage to a groupof enthusiasts rallied around Father LonginTolczyk, who founded our Credit Union inSeptember 1976. They built the foundationon which our Credit Union grew to becomethe largest ethnic credit union in the UnitedStates and an example of the success of thePolish community.

For this year, we have planned a series ofevents commemorating our 40th Anniversary.We will inform you about them as the timedraws near. We would like them to becomea form of saying ‘Thank you’ to our membersfor their trust and their use of our services.

I would like to wish for the PSFCU tocontinue being the source of similar or evengreater successes for you and the entire Polishcommunity than those achieved during thepast 40 years!

The eleventh branch of our Credit Union inmetropolitan New York area and the third innorthern New Jersey will be opened in thetown of Wallington. The opening ceremonywill be held on June 25, 2016.

Our Credit Union’s new seventeenthbranch will be located at 375 Paterson Street,Wallington, NJ 07057. Like other branches,it will be open six days a week, including Sa -tur days. The PSFCU facility is located in anewly remodeled building, next to a Shop Ritesupermarket. PSFCU members will be ableto park their cars in the extensive parking lot.

The town of Wallington is the largestconcentration of Poles in the state of NewJersey. According to the national census, justover half the population declares it has Polishroots. The newest PSFCU branch is anaddition to the numerous Polish businessesin the area. This is the third location after theClifton and Garfield branches in northernNew Jersey. On Sunday, April 17, 2016, at 11:00a.m., an observance will begin at the ceme -

tery commemorating the victims of theKatyn massacre and the tragedy inSmolensk. At 12:30 p.m. there will be asolemn mass followed by an artisticprogram including performances by MarikaSzczepek, the Angelus choir of New Yorkunder the direction of Izabela Grajner-Partyka, Wojciech Hollender, BarbaraKotlarz, Ewa Tyminska and Pawel

Piekarczyk. In the afternoon there will bea meeting with relatives of the victims ofthe Smolensk airplane crash: MagdalenaMerta, Polish Congressman Jacek Swiatand Maria Seweryn, and experts from thesubcommittee investigating the Smolensktragedy.
