Dear Parishioners,

It was great to see so many of our masked parishioners at our Drive by distribution of the palms last Sunday. You are an inspiration to all of us! Thank you to Deacon Ron for the planning and to James and Brandon and Adan for the execution along with my brother priests. Next Sunday we plan to do something similar in the form a food drop collection. Please consider dropping off non-perishable food items for some of the folks in our community who are struggling in a big way economically during these trying times. This Drive by food collection takes place Sunday, June 7th! Please see page 4 for details.

We had a Baccalaureate Mass for our Holy Family High School Class of 2020 on Thursday, May 21st. All of our graduates are going off to college. Among our 21 graduates of HFHS, two are going to UC Santa Barbara, two to Cal Poly Pomona, one to UCLA, one to UCI, one to UC Riverside, three to CS Northridge, one to CS Fullerton among others … Our high school plans to have a live graduation when the opportunity opens up.

Next Friday, we have our Holy Family Grade School graduation taking place. It will be a virtual graduation including a video presentation.

This weekend was supposed to be ordination weekend for our new priests. The ordination date for the new priests and well as the new deacons has been postponed to a later date. As I mentioned last week, we are planning to get a newly ordained priest, assigned to Holy Family! The future Father Michael Mesa will begin serving at Holy Family on September 1st. We look forward to having him! Please see page 3 for his photo and bio.

Our Building Our Future capital campaign continues as a measure of our gratitude to those who have come before us who gave of themselves so that we may meet and worship and have fellowship in our beautiful church and schools and parking lot … and as a show of our generosity to our community now and into the future. Thank you for continuing to honor your pledges and commit to building our future at Holy Family!

I still have no update on opening the church or first communions or confirmation or the sacraments of initiation for our RCIA folks. Whenever it happens, I expect it to be a gradual process. Thank you for your patience!! Always check our parish website for updates to our gradual reopening of our facilities, including our church. We still have no new in formation as of this writing. If you are not getting parish email updates, please call our parish office to add your information to the date base. Let us pray for a cure and a vaccine!!

PARISH NEWS

OUR NEW ASSOCIATE PASTOR BEGINNING SEPTEMBER 1

Deacon Michael Mesa’s ordination to the priesthood has been postponed to some later date, probably in August. He is assigned to serve at Holy Family beginning September 1 as Father Michael Mesa. We are excited, and we look forward to having him here at Holy Family. Biography: I am 31 years old, and I grew up in Philips Ranch, California, (near Diamond Bar/Pomona) raised by my mother and father, along with my younger brother. We attended St. Denis in Diamond Bar. I graduated from Diamond Bar Ranch High School in 2006. For college I attended the University of Southern California, (USC Class of 2010), majoring in Biological Sciences, hoping to begin a career in medicine. However, after graduation, while working at USC as a Laboratory Manager, I began to grow in my Catholic faith and soon after, the thought of priesthood began to grow in my heart. I entered St. John’s Seminary in 2013 and after seven amazing years at St. John’s, I graduated this May 2020, earning my Master of Divinity—and hoping to be Ordained the Priesthood soon! On a personal level, some hob-bies I enjoy are hiking, running, cooking and sharing a meal with friends. “What inspired you to become a priest?” – My journey to the priesthood has been an amazing and humbling experience, filled with a lot of prayer, interior growth, and most importantly deepening friendship with Jesus. In the priesthood, I hope to be a bridge to connect people to the love of Jesus

Christ that I have been blessed to experience. I hope to be able to give my life for all those who are in darkness, pain, or hopelessness. And I hope to be able to cele-brate with people all the milestones in their own journey of life. In the same way Christ reached out to me through a priest, I hope to become that bridge as well. Just as in my life, I have found a word of wisdom, an act of kindness, an understanding heart, a warm smile, and most of all the Sacraments of the Church – all these mani-festations of God’s Love and the Holy Spirit have impact far beyond our understanding. To be able to be a part of this in the amazing Holy Family community will truly an amazing gift from God, one that I am most grateful and excited for!

Teach children how to explain inappropriate behavior Statistics show that children may tell their story of abuse to adults as many as nine times before someone recog-

nizes what is being disclosed and takes action. An important part of em-powering children to protect themselves from abuse is giving them the right language to explain inappropriate or uncomfortable behaviors they may encounter. A child who can describe what happened to make him feel violated or uneasy can much more easily communicate with trusted adults to stop a predator, or end a potentially dangerous situation.
