Hybrid Solar Thermal + Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Power Plants
SolarReserve’s advanced hybrid technology comprises
− Solar thermal energy collection
− Integrated molten salt energy storage technology
− Conventional steam power generation
− Solar PV technology
Maximising the generation of electricity during peak demand periods, which extend into evening hours
Adding PV to our solar thermal facilities serves to add capacity as well as turbine flexibility
The solar PV component can
− Power the station’s electricity demand
− Enable the facility to supply more fully dispatchable
electricity to the grid
− Reduce the need to draw electricity from the grid for
station power when the facility is not operating
− Be utilized during daytime hours when electricity
demand and prices are lower – and while parasitic
station power requirements are higher

A New Transmission Backbone: Unlocking the Far North for Future Mining and Renewable Energy Projects
New line will support SolarReserve’s Aurora project
as well as OZ Minerals’ Prominent Hill mine and
Carrapateena project, all of which will create
thousands of jobs for the State
The high voltage power line will meet the
companies’ current operational requirements and
accommodate their growth strategy for the region
In total the line will be 270 km long with OZ
Minerals and SolarReserve equally sharing
operational costs for the first 35 km of the line
Bringing together two private companies to develop a
major piece of infrastructure for South Australia
