L earn by doing with the

Nevada Senate! uLegislate

is an educational program

designed for adult and student

groups alike. Participants take on

the roles of officers and members

of the Nevada Senate, debating

relevant topics and learning how

the legislative process works. This

one-hour simulation provides new

perspectives on the challenges of

elective office. Community groups,

chambers of commerce, church

groups, service clubs, business

associations and students are natural

audiences for this unforgettable

experience.

Identify Your Role!

Take on the role of a Senator, the Lieutenant Governor or the Secretary of the Senate and learn how they work together to ensure a well-run Senate Floor Session.

Debate Bills!

There are a variety of bills you can choose to consider. Should the Nevada Senate urge Congress not to repeal the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act or its most important provisions? Should the State of Nevada recognize the last Saturday in September of each year as “Public Lands Day”? Should students be required to pass an examination in civics as a condition of receiving credit for a course of American government? These compelling topics form the backdrop for your unique legislative experience.

Cast Your Vote!

When debate on each bill ends, it is time to vote! And, when you push the actual buttons your Senators use to cast their votes, it is your name that appears on the vote board in the Senate Chamber! Learn how many votes are needed to pass legislation, and experience the pressures of elective office.

Monthly sessions will be held August 2019—August 2020.

Times and days will vary.

“I cannot tell you how great of an

experience you all provided my students

during our uLegislate Session in May of

2012. The impact of sitting within the

state Senate Chamber and the power of

the mock session they experienced,

could be observed in each of the

participating students. The program was

well organized, well executed and an

overall wonderful experience. I look

forward to setting up another uLegislate

for my students this school year! Thanks

for all you do and for providing a such a

great opportunity to the students of

Nevada.” Jason Aytes, Teacher & Social Studies

Department Coordinator, Hug High School
