The Gospel for this Thirteenth Sunday of Ordinary Time contains warnings from Jesus about the

total commitment required to be his follower and proclaim the Gospel message. Jesus goes

as far as to say, whoever loves father or mother…son or daughter more than me is not worthy

of me. And whoever does not take up his cross and follow after me is not worthy of me.

Following Jesus is to come before any other priorities in life. While this may seem harsh at first,

what Jesus is telling us is that if we put him first in our lives then when we love family and

neighbors or welcome friends and strangers, we experience Christ himself. When our relation-

ship with Jesus is our priority, all of our other relationships get better because they are ground-

ed in our love for God. This is a reward beyond anything we can imagine and leads us to a

share in eternal life. May the good we do always bear the good fruit of Christ’s presence.

We need your support!! Our annual AUCTION to support our grade school had to be postponed due to the

pandemic. The decision was made to move to a virtual format as large gatherings are still not possible. While

this is normally a fun, community-building event, one of the advantages of a totally virtual event is that every-

one can participate. And we will need everyone’s help to make it successful. We budget about $150,000 from

the Auction to help support the needs of the school throughout the year. While that may be a lofty amount to

achieve with a virtual event, I believe we can still make it successful. Our theme is “Just Give” to help our

students have a quality education. I’m asking you to consider supporting the Auction even if you have never

attended before. You don’t have to bid on anything or buy anything if you don’t want to, you can “Just Give”

to support the cause. The Auction site will go “live” this Wednesday, July 1 and there will be a live stream

event on Friday, July 10, at 7:00 p.m. featuring some Live Auction items. You can bid on silent auction items or

buy raffle tickets beginning on July 1 or simply choose to “Just Give.” The links to participate can be found on

the school website: www.olplsschool.org. Thanks for any support you can give to the Auction!

Next Saturday is the Fourth of July holiday in our nation. Many of us will be gathering next weekend with friends

and family and enjoying fun activities, food, and fireworks. But this is also an important time for us to give

thanks for our nation and all the freedoms we enjoy as a people. Given the times we are living in and the

difficulties we are facing as a nation, we need to pause from all that divides us and recognize ways we can

unite together to make our country better. Be sure to take time to pray for our country. As disciples of Jesus,

we also remember our call to care for one another and recognize each other as brothers and sisters.

This weekend we say goodbye to Fr. Olvin and thank him for his presence with us the last three years. We have

been blessed by his priesthood and his service to our parish. We will miss him but know he will go on to do

great things for the parish of Holy Cross and continue to bring the love and joy of his faith to others. Please stop

by after Mass to say goodbye to Fr. Olvin if you are here and please keep him in your prayers as he makes his

transition to Holy Cross.

Many Blessings!

Both the first reading and the Gospel today speak of hospitality and welcome. Our ministers of hospitality are a most

visible example of using one’s time and talents to welcome the people of God. But the Gospel assures us that all who

give even just “a cup of cold water” to one of His lowliest ones will be rewarded. - Stewardship by the Book

amor posible.

pensa. Sabes, podemos estar frustrados por tantos

problemas en nuestro mundo. Una persona podría

verse tentada a hacer alguna declaración, tal vez

gran diferencia. Sin embargo, cuando uso una más-

cara, no puedo mostrar mi sonrisa ganadora.

No importa si he-

Feliz Semana

Padre Olvin

Work continues on transforming the Cooper Room into School Administration space. The glass walls that were dismantled from the old

School Administration space have been installed in the new area. A wall has been cut for installa-tion of a pass-thru window just after entering the building. Work is continuing on the new meeting

spaces where the classrooms used to be. Soon work will happen on transforming the old school restrooms into adult restrooms.
