Today Jesus stresses how children embody the reign of God. They are trusting and loving and have hearts that are open to love. They are joyful when they are made aware of God’s love for them, and are eager to return that love. This is the model Jesus holds out to us if we want to welcome the reign of God. We need to have open, loving hearts. We must drop our defenses, however we came by them, and welcome Christ’s love for us with joy. This is impossible for us on our own. Only the grace of God will enable us to do this, but that grace is freely and generously given. We have only to accept it.

PRAYER OCTOBER IS RESPECT LIFE MONTH We respect all stages of life from womb to tomb. Let us be especially mindful in our prayers for all those whose lives and dignity are threatened. RESPECT LIFE ISSUE: THE BEAUTY OF MARRIAGE In marriage, a man and a woman freely choose to become irreplaceable to each other. This choice prepares them to receive the gift of a new life that has the same value and dignity as their own. The child is irreplaceable to them and both are irreplaceable to the child. Marriage begins the circle of irreplaceability we call the family. The same is true for adoption. Marriage prepares the man and woman to receive that child into their circle of irreplaceability, permanently substituting for the mother and father the child lost. When considered through the eyes of the child, marriage is beautiful. To rebuild a marriage culture, the truth about marriage must be restored and promoted so that more men and women choose to enter into the marital union as the foundation for their families.

FRATERNITY OLA MOVIE NIGHT Saturday, October 13 after 5pm Mass in the Lower Hall In Life is Beautiful, an open-minded Jewish librarian and his son become victims of the Holocaust. He uses a perfect mixture of will, humor, and imagination to protect his son from the dangers around their camp.

THANK YOU FROM SVDP Thank you for your generous donations for the “5th Sunday” St. Vincent de Paul collection last weekend. SVPD offers food and assistance to the poor and those in need. We serve families in our area, providing groceries, help with rent, utilities and other services.

BAKE SALE THANK YOU A huge thank you to OLA for baking and buying treats to benefit the fire victims of St. Eugene’s Catholic School in Santa Rosa. You helped raise $3,200.

FRATERNITY BEREAVEMENT & GRIEF SUPPORT GROUP Wednesday, October 17 at 7pm in the Rectory This group helps families and their loved ones get through the process of healing.
