We have a new Electronic Giving provider, which will not only save the church money, but will simplify the giving process for you. You will have the option of setting up your own contributions from our web site. You have the option to give to any of the church collections, either on a one-time, weekly, monthly or annual basis as well as contribute to the Archdiocesan collections. You have your own personal login so that you can change or stop the giving at any time. You will also be able to see what you have given in the past. The new system will be much more user-friendly! We expect the new system to begin in early February. Watch for more information and an enrollment form in the next few weeks!

ANNIVERSARY CONCERT KICK-OFF FOR CHURCH WITH DEEP IRISH ROOTS What might you plan as a kick-off for an anniversary year for a parish with deep Irish roots? Why, St. Patrick's Day Celtic Holiday Concerts, of course! Tracing its history to colonial Pennsylvania, Our Lady of Consolation Parish celebrates two anniversaries in 2013. St. Malachi's of Doe Run celebrates its 175th anniversary while OLC charts its 160th anniversary this year. Services began in this parish in the fields and barns when colonial circuit-riding priests arrived periodically to say Mass for Catholics from Concordville to the Susquehanna who would travel to the Doe Run area for services. For the 2013 anniversary year, a variety of exciting activities are planned including a public pilgrimage to Ireland in mid September. The Anniversary Year will officially kick-off with a Celtic extravaganza on the weekend of March 9 and 10 to benefit our Early Learning Center featuring two Celtic concerts with performances by the Maidens IV, Irish Blessing, piper the Ladeens, piper Chris Lewis and The Cara School of Dance. Tickets and information can be obtained at www.olcchurch.org or at 610-383-5068 [email protected]. The concert organizers invite everyone to attend and be Irish for the day! "Be prepared to be wowed!"
160th/175th ANNIVERSARY YEAR OF FAITH
PILGRIMAGE TO IRELAND As part of our Anniversary Year of Faith, Our Lady of Consolation Parish is planning a faith-based Pilgrimage to Ireland for interested parishioners and public in mid-September. At least 10-20 people are needed for this pilgrimage which will include a visit to Our Lady of Knock Shrine and various faith-based and tourist locations throughout the Irish Isle. Deepen your faith as we trace the roots of our Catholic history in scenic Ireland! For details, please call or email the Our Lady of Consolation Parish Rectory today to place your name on the OLC Pilgrimage to Ireland Information List. “Dia is Muire duit!” (God and Mary to you) Our Lady of Consolation Parish Rectory 610-857-3510 www.olcchurch.org
February 10, 2013 – Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time Reflection by Rev. Leonard N. Peterson
Once upon an earlier time in TV land, “Mission Impossible” was a weekly hit show on the schedule before it became a Tom Cruise franchise. The gist of the series featured a small crew of highly skilled government agents charged with challenging covert tasks. Their work usually involved neutralizing some threat to world peace or humanity in general in what were seemingly impossible circumstances. Of course, they pulled the jobs off with few hitches in time for the next week's episode. It was fun to watch and cheer them on.
It is not too much of a “stretch” to analyze what the Son of God came to do among us as an “impossible” mission. Of course, this would only be true from our very finite perspective. We know “with God all things are possible” But just think. Jesus had to convert a nation from a law-bound religion meant to honor a God acknowledged as too distant from themselves to one in which God dwells within us. He had to answer that people's long-held hope but in a way they didn't expect or even want. He had to save the world from its navel-gazing and reopen the possibility of heaven. He had to cover the globe with His message while voluntarily locking Himself within one time frame and geographical setting. Not only was this whole enterprise to be accomplished, but also did it seemingly fail completely at a place called “Golgotha.” But Jesus our Lord chose a marvelous method to spread the word, he chose Twelve men, not one of whom was particularly gifted for the task, to do it. More than twenty centuries later, Christ's message, when it is heard, still enlightens minds and softens hearts. But here's a pre-Lenten surprise: Christ's present day agents chosen to deliver the message are none other than you and me! Do you trust Him or not?
