INFANT BAPTISMS For children under 7 years of age, the sacrament is celebrated the FIRST Sunday of the month at 2:00 pm. The parents must register in the parish office at least 4 weeks prior to the baptism. Both parents and godparents are expected to attend one catechetical session in advance, on the Wednesday before the baptism, at 7:00 pm.

SACRAMENTS OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION Before being fully initiated into the sacramental life of the Church, children over the age of 7 will need catechetical prepa-ration through the RCIC process. Teenagers and adults will par-ticipate in separate RCIA processes. CONFIRMATION and COMMUNION For those already baptized, preparation for these Sacraments will take place according to the person’s age and knowledge of the Catholic Faith. For further information contact the Office of Faith Formation Program.

MARRIAGES Couples should contact the parish office at least six months in advance to make the proper ar rangements for the Sacrament of Matrimony.

FIRST FRIDAY This Friday, May 4th is the First Friday of the month. Mass will be celebrated at 9:00 A.M. rather than 8:30 Following Mass there will be Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, conclud-ing with a Holy Hour and Benediction at 7:00 P.M., followed by Mass at 7:30 P.M. All are welcome.

Dear Parishioners,

We are in the fifth week of spring and I hear in conversations about the weather the desire for warmer days and chilly days the season. Spring has the promise of warmer weather and the blossoming of floral life. As they say, “April showers bring May flowers.” One can relate the gradual change of our physical cli-mate to our spiritual realities. This weekend we have begun the fifth week of Easter! Alleluia! The Easter Paschal Candle is next to the altar up front in the sanctuary of the church. It represents Christ, the Light of the world. It is the tallest candle in the church. It reminds us of the promise and hope that the light of Christ will touch and brighten our lives more and more. As we now have entered into the second half of the Easter Season, let us ask Jesus to help us to burn with the fire of his love and life. As we hear the gospel today about our call to be branches connected to Christ, the vine; let us ask God to help us to bear the needed fruit and to shine with needed light for our world that constantly suffers from the ravages of sin. This weekend and in the month of May let us pray for all the young people who are receiving First Com-munion and Confirmation. May they set their families on fire with the love of Christ and be inspirations for their family and friends to come to church and receive Eucharist every Sunday. May we become more an Alleluia people who are filled with the Spirit of God and proclaim Christ’s active and saving presence each day of our lives.

Queridos Feligreses: Estamos en la quinta semana de la primavera y escucho en conversaciones sobre el clima el deseo de días más cálidos y días fríos de la temporada. La primavera tiene la promesa de un clima más cálido y el florecimiento de la vida floral. Como dicen, "las lluvias de abril traen las flores de mayo". Uno puede relacionar el cambio gradual de nuestro clima físico con nuestras realidades espirituales. ¡Este fin de semana hemos comenzado la quinta semana de Pascua! ¡Aleluya! La Vela Pascual de Pascua está al lado del altar al frente en el santuario de la iglesia. Representa a Cristo, la Luz del mundo. Es la vela más alta de la iglesia. Nos recuerda la promesa y la esperanza de que la luz de Cristo tocará y alegrará nuestras vidas cada vez más. Como ahora hemos entrado en la segunda mitad de la temporada de Pascua, pidamos a Jesús que nos ayude a quemarnos con el fuego de su amor y de su vida. Al escuchar el evangelio de hoy sobre nuestro llamado a ser ramas conectadas con Cristo, la vid; pidamos a Dios que nos ayude a llevar el fruto necesario y a brillar con la luz necesaria para nuestro mundo que constantemente sufre los estra-gos del pecado. Este fin de semana y en el mes de mayo, recemos por todos los jóvenes que reciben la Primera Co-munión y la Confirmación. Que prendan fuego a sus familias con el amor de Cristo y sean inspiradores para que sus familiares y amigos asistan a la iglesia y reciban la Eucaristía todos los domingos. Que podamos convertirnos más en un pueblo de Aleluya que está lleno del Espíritu de Dios y proclamar la presencia activa y salvadora de Cristo cada día de nuestras vidas.

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION In medieval times, one country, Scotland, linked its economy to the liturgy. Four holy days of the church calendar were keyed to the legal year. On these days, rents were due, clergy and servants were paid, and contracts and leases would begin or end. The term days were Pentecost (called Whitsunday), the Feast of Saint Martin on November 11 (Martinmas), the Feast of the Presentation on February 2 (Candlemas), and August 2 (Lammas), a harvest festival. On Lammas day, the first loaf of bread from the summer wheat harvest was given to the village priest. After the Refor-mation, which swept the Catholic festivals away, the term days were gradually detached from the old feasts. It was only in 1990 that the term days were anchored on the 28th of February, May, August, and November. Today the old Scottish universities are the last hold-outs, still naming their terms or semesters after the old festivals. Scottish students today may not know about the liturgical year, but they still call the fall term Martinmas, and the spring session Candlemas.

TRADICIONES DE NUESTRA FE En el año 1674 una argentina, Doña Ana Mattos de Siqueyras se llevó a su casa una imagen de la Vir-gen María para hacerle una capillita en sus terrenos a un lado del rió Luján. La imagen era de reputación milagrosa y Doña Ana deseaba tenerla cerquita de su hogar. Al día siguiente la imagen se había regresado a un eremitorio donde la cuidaba un esclavo africano llamado Manuel. Esto le pasó un par de veces hasta que se le ocurrió a Doña Ana llevarse en peregrinación a ambos María y Manuel. Desde entonces en una capilla abierta al público María se quedo sin ningún problema. Como muchos ricos, Doña Ana quería echarse a Dios en el bolsillo llevándose para si misma la imagen de María. Pero nuestra Señora de Luján tenia otro plan. Ella deseaba estar con el esclavo Manuel y con el pueblo. En fin, Doña Ana se fijó que a Dios y su madre no los controla nadie y nadie los puede hacer su propiedad, a lo contrario, ellos se entregan a los pobres y desamparados.

VOCATIONS - VOCACIONES You all are invited to pray for vocations. Parishioners will meet before our outdoor statue of Our Lady of Fatima to pray a rosary for a greater response to vocations among the faithful. The Rosary will be prayed in English on Tuesdays at 6:45 p.m.; in Spanish on Saturdays at 9:15 am.; and on the last Sunday of the month at 11:45 a.m. Bilingual rosary. Also our Parish Vocations Committee is Friday, May 4th at 8:10 pm in the Rectory. Let us pray for vocations.
