INFANT BAPTISMS For children under 7 years of age, the sacrament is celebrated the FIRST Sunday of the month at 2:00 pm. The parents must register in the parish office at least 4 weeks prior to the baptism. Both parents and godparents are expected to attend one catechetical session in advance, on the Wednesday before the baptism, at 7:00 pm.

SACRAMENTS OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION Before being fully initiated into the sacramental life of the Church, children over the age of 7 will need catechetical prepa-ration through the RCIC process. Teenagers and adults will par-ticipate in separate RCIA processes. CONFIRMATION and COMMUNION For those already baptized, preparation for these Sacraments will take place according to the person’s age and knowledge of the Catholic Faith. For further information contact the Office of Faith Formation Program.

MARRIAGES Couples should contact the parish office at least six months in advance to make the proper ar rangements for the Sacrament of Matrimony.

FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK Dear Parishioners,

Goodbye summer and hello autumn. We have begun the season of autumn this weekend. Time flies and life changes. Each season has its beauty. I love the sunny weather in summer and in autumn we can expect the spectacular colors. Everyone can probably pick the things in life that are most agreeable and enjoyable for them. We are tempted to embrace only what we like and throw the rest away. The fact is that all of life is a gift from God. God sent his Son to redeem us all, the good and the bad. In the gospel this weekend the disciples had a hard time learning about his future passion, death, and resurrection. Jesus told them that to follow him would mean to serve as he serves. As we have begun the last four months of this year, there are joys, challenges, and trials that we are ex-periencing. The work of the beginning school year may be difficult but it is rewarding. The scandals that we hear about in the church are painful but we can use them as stepping stones to see the ongoing good work that is done by so many of God’s faithful people in the church. The sacrifice of time, talent and treasure that is asked of us to keep our parish going and vibrant may not be easy but is the way that we live the call of Jesus to be servant disciples and instruments of grace. Let us ask God for the gift of wisdom that we hear about in the second reading today. With that wisdom, we may see God’s beauty in all of creation, in the responsibilities that we need to shoulder and in the servi-ce that we are called to give as disciples of the Christ.

Queridos Feligreses: Adiós verano y hola otoño. Empezamos la temporada de otoño este fin de semana. El tiempo vuela y la vida cambia. Cada temporada tiene su belleza. Me encanta el clima soleado en verano y en otoño podemos esperar los colores espectaculares. Cada uno puede elegir las cosas de la vida que son más agradables y diveridas para ellos. Estamos tentados de aceptar solo lo que nos gusta y tirar el resto. El hecho es que toda la vida es un regalo de Dios. Dios envió a su Hijo para redimirnos a todos, a los buenos y a los malos. En el evangelio de este fin de semana, los discípulos tuvieron dificultades para aprender sobre su futura pasión, muerte y resurrección. Jesús les dijo que seguirlo significaría servir como él sirve. A medida que comenzamos los últimos cuatro meses de este año, hay alegrías, desafíos y pruebas que estamos experimentando. El trabajo del comienzo del año escolar puede ser difícil pero es gratifi-cante. Los escándalos de los que escuchamos en la iglesia son dolorosos, pero podemos usarlos como escalones para ver el buen trabajo continuo que realizan muchas de las personas fieles de Dios en la iglesia. El sacrificio de tiempo, talento y tesoro que se nos pide para mantener nuestra parroquia en marcha y vibrante puede no ser fácil, pero es la forma en que vivimos el llamado de Jesús para ser discípulos siervos e instrumentos de gracia. Pidamos a Dios el don de sabiduría que escuchamos en la segunda lectura de hoy. Con esa sabiduría, podemos ver la belleza de Dios en toda la creación, en las responsabilidades que debemos asumir y en el servicio que estamos llamados a dar como discípulos de Cristo.

October 13th Anniversary of Our Lady of Fatima

Join us on Saturday, October 13th for the Celebration of the 6th Apparition of Our Lady of Fatima. There will be Mass at 5 PM. Come and pray with us as we ask for the intercession of the Our Lady of the Rosary, our mother and Patron. HOW DO WE TREAT THE MESSENGER? Let’s not be too hasty in defining who is “the wicked one” and who (namely us) is just! We are very quick to label others as evil, because we tend to label ourselves as good guys. We don’t like it when we are brought up short by a prophetic voice that brings us some bad news about our own behavior. We don’t like to be reproached for transgressions of the law or charged with violations of our training. We may condemn and abuse those who bring us up against these truths about ourselves when, if we were really good, we would thank them for helping to keep us on the right path. This is the way they treated the prophets and the way they treated Jesus. Is this also the way we treat those whose message we don’t like? CÓMO TRATAMOS AL MENSAJERO No debemos precipitarnos a definir quiénes son “los malvados” y quiénes (es decir nosotros) son los justos. Tendemos a clasificar rápidamente a los demás como malos, porque solemos considerarnos bue-nas personas. No nos gusta que una voz profética nos critique con malas noticias sobre nuestro propio comportamiento. No nos gusta que nos reprochen que hemos transgredido la ley ni que nos acusen de no haber actuado acorde a nuestra formación. Puede que condenemos e insultemos a quienes nos enfrentan a estas verdades sobre nosotros mis-mos, pero si fuéramos realmente buenos, les agradeceríamos por ayudarnos a permanecer en el camino correcto. Éste es el trato que le dieron a los profetas y el trato que le dieron a Jesús. ¿Es éste también el trato que les damos a las personas cuyos mensajes no nos gustan?

The Feast of St. Francis of Assisi is celebrated on Thursday, October 4th . We will have the traditional Blessing of Animals at 4:00 P.M. in the area between the church and the rectory. All are welcome.
