Requirements of a Godparent (Sponsor)

The norms of the Catholic Churchgoverned by Canon Law (the universal law of the Church) prescribe thefollowing: Insofar as possible, a person to be baptized is to be given a sponsor who assists an adult in Christian initiation or together with the parents presents an infant for baptism. A sponsor also helps the baptized person to lead a Christian life in keeping with baptism and to fulfill faithfully the obligations inherent in it.There is to be only one male sponsor or one female sponsor or one of each.To be permitted to take on the function of sponsor a person must:1) be designated by the one to bebaptized, by the parents or the person who takes their place, or in their absence by the pastor or minister and have the aptitude and intention of fulfilling this function;2) have completed the sixteenth year of age, unless the diocesan bishop has established another age, or the pastor or minister has granted an exception for a just cause;3) be a Catholic who has beenconfirmed and has already received the most holy sacrament of the Eucharist and who leads a life of faith in keeping with the function to be taken on;4) not be bound by any canonicalpenalty legitimately imposed ordeclared; 5/ not be the father or mother of the one to be baptized.A baptized person who belongs to a non-Catholic ecclesial community is not to participate except together with a Catholic sponsor and then only as awitness of the baptism.NECESSARY TO BE A GODPARENT:1. ReflectionThe greatest love story of all time is the story of our salvation. God, despite all our sins, has such great love for us that he is unwilling to leave us in our sinfulness. And as today’s Gospel reminds us, he was willing to sacrifice his only Son so that we might be raised from the death of sin and come to share in his life of communal love. Today’s solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity celebrates that life of communal love. For

God is one God, in three persons – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit – whose relationship is one of complete self-gift and outpouring of love. In other words, God is not a being who loves, God is love itself. That God is greater than we can ever know and yet is also one who revealedhimself to us in his Son is trulysomething to celebrate. For the God who is transcendent – above all things – is also immanent: present to all things. He invites us to relationship with him; to seek more and know more and to open our hearts and minds to how he reveals himself to us. So today’s solemnity is actually a double celebration; we celebrate what God has revealed and we accept the invitation to know him more, and to find joy and ulfillment in that knowing.As the fundamental mystery of faith, it permeates our identity and prayer. Already at this Mass we have invoked the Trinity in several ways: from the initial sign of the cross to the Gloria to our opening prayer, which is addressed to the Father but of-fered though Jesus Christ in the unity of the Holy Spirit … one God, forever and ever. In a few moments, our creed will set out what we believe about the oneness of God, and yet a God who is Father, Son, and Spirit. And, of course, in the central act of the Mass we will ask the Father to send the Spirit so that our bread and wine might become for us the body and blood of Christ, his Son. Our faith is Trinitarian! Here we have three divine persons who in the words of the creed are consubstantial – eternal – each to be adored and glorified, and yet, one God. Within the Trinity there is such a perfect relationship that they are fully united in every way – no boundaries or separations except that they are not the same person. Everything that belongs to one belongs to the other, and yet each is not the same as the other.By celebrating the Trinity, we recall God’s invitation to us to be in relationship with him. We are reminded that God loves each of us and wills only our good; that this love is so real that Christ was actually willing to die for us; and that the Spirit is the gift of the Father and Son to us, to remain present among us. The Holy Spirit teaches and reminds us of that Trinitarian love,strengthening and consoling us in times of challenge and trial, and empowering us to be disciples in a troubled world.Let us be honest, we will never fully know – in this world – how and why God loves us so much or why he has chosen to make us his sons and daughters. So let us today just simply revel in that divine love and that

holy identity. Let it flow over us like a great wave – empowering us to live as faithful disciples.

ReflexãoPodemos falar da Santíssima Trindade referindo-nos ao amor que existe entre o Pai, o Filho e o Espirito Santo. Os teólogos chamam este relacionamento amoroso de dimensão imanente da vida divina. Deixemos, portanto, isso com os teólogos. Sim, porque podemos falar da Santíssima Trindade, como ouvimos na 1ª leitura,percebendo que Deus age na nossa história para libertar-nos da escravidão. Foi o que fez com o povo que viviaescravo no Egito. Mesmo assim,conhecemos pela história, que o povo respondeu com a infidelidade. Por isso, como Moisés, queremos nos colocar diante de Deus para invocar amisericórdia, a clemência e o perdão divino porque, mesmo em tempos depandemia ameaçando a vida,percebemos que ficamos presos na idolatria da economia, temendo perder receitas, em vez de valorizar a vida. Onde depositamos a confiança de nossas vidas? Podemos depositar a confiança de nossas vidas em Deus, porque Deus sempre se manifesta a favor da vida humana. Prova disso é o envio de seu Filho ao mundo para que a vida humana fosse plena.Jesus se encarnou na nossa história,participou da nossa vida, em tudo foihumano. Sua encarnação, diz opróprio Jesus no Evangelho, é uma grande manifestação do amor divino para com a vida humana. Amor que se manifesta pela misericórdia para com os doentes, pela libertação daqueles que viviam presos na maldade, se manifesta especialmente para com os pobres, seus preferidos... Amor que continua se manifestando por meio de nós, que em tempo de pandemia, somos convidados a testemunhá-lo pelasolidariedade fraterna, como viveu Jesus. O modo de vivermos em contato com Deus, com a Trindade Santa, acontece pela busca da perfeição, na proposta feita por São Paulo, na 2ª leitura. Buscar a perfeição, buscar a santidade, participar da santidade divina. Como? O próprio Paulo propõe viver na alegria e, propões duas atitudes importantíssimas para nosso tempo de crise. Primeiro, o encorajamento, que consiste em ajudar e incentivar quem vive desanimado a reaver a coragem para refazer a vida. A segunda atitude épromover relacionamentos de concórdia, não promover brigas, discórdias,confusão... mas promover a concórdia e a paz, especialmente quando se percebe o medo na vida das pessoas. O Deus que

sempre se manifestou na história humana, hoje continua se manifestando através de nossas atitudes. Que elas sejam fraternas, especialmente para com quem foi atingido pela pandemia do Covid 19 e sofreprofundamente por isso. Amém!

Espaço do PárocoQueridos Paroquianos,É com muita alegria que eu anuncio o retorno para dentro da igreja na segunda fase que terá início no fim-de-semana dos dias 13 e 14 de Junho com a Festa de Corpus Christi. Nesta segunda fase vamos manter os procedimentos de segurança, tais como: 2 metros de distância, máscara, higenização, etc..Vamos poder ter 75 pessoas na igreja e 50 pessoas no salão (basement) com a transmisão ao vivo no telão (screen).Precisamos de voluntários para nos ajudar a desinfectar a igreja depois de casa missa, aqueles que puderem ajudar por favor entrar em contato por telefone ou por email.A partir do dia 14 os horários das missas no domingo irão sofrer alteração, passará a ser 7:30 a.m. - 9:30 a.m. e 11:30 a.m. para dar tempo de desinfectar depois de cada missa.Pe.
