Wednesday 18th February Week 3 Term 1

Dear Parents,

This edition of our school newsletter coincides with Ash Wednesday which begins the season of

Lent. All the children at our school attended either a Mass (Year 3-6’s) at 9am with the

parishioners or a liturgy (Kindy – Year 2’s) in the school hall to signify the start of Lent.

My sincere thanks to all those parents who attended the annual Parent Information Evening

held at our school last night. Our intention was for you, as parents, to gain a deeper understanding

of the structures and processes in place in the different classes as you work in conjunction with

the teachers to support the learning needs of your child/children. It is also important to gain an

understanding of the “big picture” our school has designed for 2015. I hope the whole school

session in the hall gave you a good understanding of what we are doing and why we are doing it.

It was also important to devote some time to supporting parents to understand how to access

information from our new “Portal”. This is a new way of communicating for all of us and I do

appreciate your perseverance in developing your understanding in this area.

Swimming training commenced yesterday morning before school with forty two students

participating. I encourage children from Years 3-6 to come along and develop their skills and

fitness by participating in the training at Bicton Baths. Swimmers please pay $4.00 for pool entry

into container labelled POOL ENTRY and a gold coin donation into the BREAKFAST container

which will be sitting on the Breakfast table BEFORE you start training. NO MONIES ARE TO

BE GIVEN TO THE SCHOOL OFFICE. PLEASE PAY AT THE POOL AT THE

BREAKFAST TABLE.

We are looking for helpers to feed our early morning swimmers. If you can come along to

training to help make cheese toasties or donate some fruit or muffins that would be great. There

is a roster in the Office. Thank you to Fiona Houston and Pia Glamuzina for co-ordinating the

swimming breakfast roster. Thank you to Oz Celenza for coordinating the sessions and the staff

and parents who have offered to assist throughout the sessions.

Last Monday, West Coast Eagles, Chris Masten and Alec Waterman visted the school and took

the Year 4, 5 and 6 classes for a football coaching clinic. The children really enjoyed this

opportunity and didn’t miss the chance to let the visitors know that for the most part, they are

Fremantle Dockers supporters!

Through the week, Grasshopper Soccer conducted a Soccer Skills Clinic for children in Years

1 - 4. All children participated enthusiastically and demonstrated a high level of skill. Thank

you Oz Celenza for organising these two events.

A reminder to all parents that the RESERVED parking bay, auctioned late last year at the

Christmas Carols evening, needs to remain “RESERVED” for the Ross family.

Parents are asked to mark in their diaries/calendars Sunday 8th March as the date set aside for

the Community Mass for 2015 to the celebrate the beginning of the new school year. This

occasion will also provide children in Years 3, 4 and 6 a chance to pledge their commitment to

the sacramental programmes of Reconciliation, Holy Communion and Confirmation

respectively. If families of children making a Sacrament cannot attend this Mass, alternate dates

for pledging their commitment are: Saturday 7th March at 6.30pm, Saturday 14th March at

6.30pm and Sunday 15th March at 9.45am.

The Pre-Kindy interviews for the 2016 cohort are due to start in the first week of March, so if

you know of any families who would like their child to have a place in this programme, please

ensure that they have completed their application forms.

Dear Lord,

As we begin this new school year, we gather

once again as a community of believers.

We thank you for the energy and the Spirit that

you renewed in us through the Summer

months.

We thank you for the time to enjoy our family and friends and to reflect on what is important in our

lives.

Let this year be marked by enthusiasm and love so

that, with the inspiration of your spirit, we may

continue to grow in our faith.

Help us to fulfill Your hope for us with honest inten-tions and works of faith.

Let us be gentle with ourselves and bring

laughter, joy and love to others.

We ask this in your name. Amen
