Prayer For Cateche!cal Sunday Dear Lord Jesus,

A!er You rose from the dead, but before You ascended into Heaven, You gathered Your followers to You.

You told them to bap"ze all in Your name, and that of Your Father and the Holy Spirit.

You told them to make all na"ons followers of You, and to teach them obedience to all Your words.

Most important, You said You would be with them always, even to the end of the world.

As we honor our Catechists today, give them the grace to be Ministers of Your Word and Your Sacraments.

Give them courage to counsel others to obedience, and faith to remember that You are with them always.

Amen.

September 16, 2018 • Twenty-Fourth Sunday In Ordinary Time 3

A Note From The Pastor… This Sunday, September 16th, is Cateche"cal Sunday. On this day, we acknowledge the importance of the Church’s teaching ministry, and honor those who serve the Chris"an community as Catechists. You may have heard of the word ‘catechism,’ which can mean something like a summary of our Faith. But the word ‘catechism’ comes from the root word ‘catechesis,’ a Greek word meaning to echo or resound. So Catechists teach the Faith at the level of their audience; they adapt, but do not change, the Church’s teaching to the capacity of those who are receiving it. Catechists talk about the most important ques"ons in life, and then they explain the answers that God has given us in the Bible, and above all through His Son, Jesus’ teachings which have been faithfully handed on within His Church. A Catechist doesn’t teach his or her own philosophy of life; the Catechist explains what God has revealed to us.

This weekend our Catechists will be called forth to be commissioned for their ministry. Cateche"cal Sunday is a "me to reflect on the role that each person fulfills, by virtue of Bap"sm, in handing on the Faith, and being a witness to the Gospel. It is also a day for each one of us to rededicate ourselves to this mission which Jesus entrusts to all of His disciples: to spread and pass on the Faith. Next weekend is our Annual Seminary Educa"on Fund Second Collec"on. In the past, we have had Seminarians give witness talks, but this year because of restructuring where Seminarians volunteer at parishes, we were unable to receive a speaker. The Seminarian Educa"on Fund provides support for the training and educa"on of men studying for priesthood in the Archdiocese of Chicago. The fund helps to cover the cost to educate each Archdiocesan Seminarian as they proceed through the various stages of forma"on before ordina"on as a priest for Chicago. Please consider suppor"ng men who want to serve the Lord Jesus as priests here in the Archdiocese of Chicago. Regarding the ongoing abuse crisis, this past Wednesday, Cardinal Cupich met with Chicago priests for discussion and to answer any ques"ons. As I write this column, the mee"ng hasn’t taken place as yet. Also as I write this, the Va"can has announced that a statement/response is being prepared to address Archbishop Viganò’s accusa"on. I will keep you updated. Again, please go to: lifesitenews.com, or ncregister.com for updates. I also want to remind you about the upcoming Light of the World Retreat. Please consider a#ending. Also, please con"nue to pray for a Supreme Court Jus"ce who truly has a well-formed conscience. And let us pray that the Lord heals vic"ms of abuse, and purifies His Church once and for all during this painful "me.

God Bless,

Fr. Paul

The First Fruits Dear Friends in Christ, I would like to make a very big and joyous announcement that on Saturday, August 18, 2018, the Rt. Rev. Paul Ssemogerere, Bishop of Kasana-Luweero Diocese, ordained 6 of our pioneer Seminarians to Priesthood, and 3 to the Diaconate. The ordained Priests are: Fr. Joseph Miiro, Fr. James Kibuuka, Fr. John Mary Nyanzi, Fr. Thomas Yiga, Fr. Cosmas Masanga, and Fr. Joseph Mukasa. Those ordained to the Diaconate are: Dn. Joseph Mukasa Balikuddembe, Dn. Tonny Lyazi, and Dn. Edward Mulindwa. I am not sure if I have appropriate words to Thank You. My heart is overjoyed wri"ng names of these young men with a prefix Fr. and Dn. I am proud to have taught them all except Fr. Cosmas Masanga and Dn. Tonny Lyazi. The new Priests are those who joined the High School Seminary in 2004, where I was teaching as a young Priest. Now I am wondering where has "me gone? Am I ge&ng old or what! I missed the opportunity to be present at their Ordina"on because I s"ll had some commitments here, and I also needed some rest a>er my classes at the hospital. I, however, followed the func"on on the radio, and got some pictures via E-mail, which I will share with you in future bulle"ns. When I look at these pictures, I s"ll see these Priests and Deacons as kids, as I met them many years ago, but again I see them so different and transformed by God’s grace, and by your support and generosity. I look at these pictures every day, and I marvel at what God can do, and what generous hands can lead us all to. I will forever give praise to God, and say like Mary, ‘for He has done great things for me, and Holy is His name.’ When these new Priests and Deacons send me messages thanking me for what I have done for them, I wonder what it is that I have done. On the other hand, I realize that God has indeed done great things for them through sending me to you. So, as I begin to write sta"ng to them that I have actually not done so much, I stop and ponder in silence what you have done for them. I then just find tears of joy running down my cheeks. I Thank You, Fr. Paul, for being such a great Father not only to me, but now also to these young Priests and Priests-to-be. Without his endorsement this would not have happened. I thank the OLH Uganda Seminarian Ministry for all the "reless work they do to mobilize funds. I thank Sponsors of individual Seminarians. You have become their real parents. I thank all of you who have made various contribu"ons to the Greatest Need op"on. Every bit helps. I thank the OLH Parish Officers who organize the funds, and make sure they get to the Seminarians. May God reward you most abundantly! Please keep these newly ordained Priests and Deacons in your prayers, that they may be good and faithful Priests and Shepherds to God’s people. Pray for those s"ll in forma"on to strive to love the Lord, and in the future serve Him as His special envoys in His ministry. As I return to Uganda, I will take your love to them, and together we shall always offer special prayers for you all. May God bless you and keep you! In Christ, Fr. Charles Ssennyondo

Humanae Vitae Presenta!on

Come and join us for an Informa"ve Talk by Fr. Brian Mullady, O.P. on the Encyclical Humanae Vitae next Saturday, September 22nd, at St. Mary of the Lake Seminary Cafeteria. Registra"on is at 7:30AM. Breakfast is at 8AM. Talk starts at 9AM. Cost is $15 Per Person. Call (847) 223-7022, or E-mail: [email protected] to register. Come learn why it is absolutely necessary for Catholics to follow the teaching in Humanae Vitae if they want to restore God to His righ^ul place in the family and society. Our speaker has stated, “Pope Paul VI predicted that if contracep#on was accepted, it would lead to widespread divorce, the destruc#on of the family, compromising of the ins#tu#on of marriage, abor#on on demand, and devaluing of human life. People laughed at him. But these predic#ons have come true.” Come and hear the real explana"on of why the Church is opposed to contracep"on, and if followed how this can drama"cally change the world morally and psychologically for the greater good!
