PREPARATION Questions for Reflection on the Themes of the Eight Days

Questions Day 1 • What does it mean to say that Jesus died for all? • The German pastor Dietrich Bonhoeffer wrote: “I am a brother to another person through what Jesus Christ did for me and to me; the other person has become a brother to me through what Jesus Christ did for him.” How does this affect how I view others? What are the consequences of this for ecumenical and inter-religious dialogue? Questions Day 2 • How does our culture tempt us to live only for ourselves rather than for others? • In what ways can we live for others in our daily life? • What are the ecumenical implications of the call to live no longer for ourselves? Questions Day 3 • Where can I identify Damascus experiences in my life? • What changes when we view other Christians or people of other faiths as God view them?

Questions Day 4 • What could we learn by reading together the history of our divisions and mutual mistrust? • What must change in my church so that divisions can be overcome and that which unites can be strengthened? Questions Day 5 • What helps me to recognize that I am a new creation in Christ? • What are the steps I need to take to live out my new life in Christ? • What are the ecumenical implications of being a new creation? Questions Day 6 • How do we as Christian communities understand being part of God’s covenant? • What forms of discrimination do our churches need to address today in our societies? Questions Day 7 • Where do we see the need for a ministry of reconciliation in our context? • How are we responding to this need? Questions Day 8 • How do you envision heaven? • Which songs, stories, poems, and pictures from your tradition give you the feeling of participating in the reality of God´s

eternity?

Sanctuary Lamp Sponsorship

JANUARY 15 - 21, 2017

This week the Sanctuary Lamp is in memory of

R P Sponsored by Arlene Rizzo

Prayer Intentions of the Holy Father JANUARY 2017

Christian Unity: That all Christians may be faithful to the Lord’s teaching by striving with prayer and fraternal charity to restore ecclesial communion and by collaborating to meet the challenges facing humanity.

REMINDER - Do not leave your purse or valuables in your vehicle or in the pews.

A Note about Cold & Flu Season Please be mindful of not shaking others’ hands for the Sign of Peace when you are sick and could pass on germs, especially during flu season. No one is obligated to shake hands at the sign of peace. As an alternative to shaking hands, you may simply bow to those around you and say, “Peace be with you.” If your fellow parishioners decide upon this option, do not be offended, as it is merely for sanitary concerns and is not personal.

You may want to also consider not taking the Blood of Christ while you are sick.

Catholic Mass for the Homebound - The Diocese offers a televised Mass for the home-bound each Sunday at 7:30am on KFBT Channel 33.1 Digital (no longer an analog signal) or Cox Cable Channel 6.

Immaculate Heart Radio - Now in Las Vegas, you can listen to Catholic radio 24-hours a day by tuning your radio to 970am.

First Reading — The glory of the Lord shows through Israel, a light to all nations, that salvation may reach to the ends of the earth (Isaiah 49:3, 5-6). Psalm — Here am I, Lord; I come to do your will (Psalm 40). Second Reading — All those who call upon the name of the Lord are called to be holy (1 Corinthians 1:1-3). Gospel — John the Baptist testifies: The one who comes after me, on whom the Spirit comes down and remains, is the Son of God (John 1:29-34). God of all, we pray as one, that we may be one, just as the Lord Jesus prayed we may be one in Him. Your son Jesus compels us to be reconciled to one another. May our spirits be joined to your Holy Spirit, that we may witness to the visible unity of your Church.
