OUR LADY OF MERCY PARISH September 23, 2018

Pastor’s Corner September 24 is the official feast day of Our

Lady of Mercy. This year we commemorate 10 years as the consolidated parish under the patronage of Our Lady of Mercy. The traditional image of Our Lady of Mercy has an image of Mary with her arms extended. She opens her mantle and there are people under her mantle. Reflecting on our parish, I see the Blessed Mother opening her arms and welcoming all the people from St. Bernard, St. Michael and St. Joseph Churches. She continues to welcome those who move into the area and find our Church community.

Mary consoles us in our sorrows. Mary encourages us in our doubts. Mary protects us from overwhelming fears. Mary leads us to a healing encounter with her Son, Jesus Christ. Mary encourages us to imitate her Son to be missionary disciples. As members of this parish, under the patronage of Our Lady of Mercy, we are sent forth to be instruments of mercy in our families, neighborhoods and in our world.

The purpose of our parish community is to gather together with Jesus Christ as the center of our life. We desire to have an intimate encounter with Jesus Christ. Reflecting on the Word of God and receiving the grace of the Sacraments, allows us to experience healing, inner transformation and spiritual renovation. We can see this expressed in our newly painted Church building. Last year, we had the exterior painted. This summer, the interior was painted. Our Church has experienced a cleansing, a renovation, and an interior transformation.

This is a visible sign of what Jesus wants to do with our lives. Jesus desires each one of us to experience a continual interior transformation. It takes commitment, dedication and sacrifice. Jesus wants to give us an “extreme makeover.” As the beauty of the Church shines forth, Jesus desires our lives to shine forth his love, his mercy and his joy into our homes, our families and our neighborhoods. This happens through our words and our actions.

I will be leaving for a pilgrimage to Poland tomorrow. We will walk in the footsteps of some great saints of mercy — St. Maximillian Kolbe, St. Faustina Kowalska and St. John Paul II. I ask for your prayers and I pray that each person in our parish family may experience the merciful love of Jesus and allow that experience to renew and transform your life.

Let us reflect on this powerful line from today’s psalm, “Behold, God is my helper; the Lord sustains my life. Freely will I offer you sacrifice; I will praise your name, O LORD, for its goodness.”

Don’t forget our parish picnic today at Louise More Park at 1:00pm! Have a great week! Fr. Keith

Me iré a peregrinar a Polonia mañana.

parroquia. El lunes setiembre 3, no tendremos la clase.

Every child is taught the Our Father, the Hail Mary and the Glory Be when they are young. But the

Church has a treasury of prayers from her tradition. Each month we would like to highlight a specific prayer and invite you to pray it each day or even to memorize it where it will be secure within

your memory. Prayer For Healing Victims of Abuse

God of endless love,

ever caring, ever strong, always present, always just:

You gave your only Son to save us by the blood of his cross.

Gentle Jesus, shepherd of peace,

join to your own suffering the pain of all who have been hurt

in body, mind, and spirit by those who betrayed the trust placed in them.

Hear our cries as we agonize

over the harm done to our brothers and sisters. Breathe wisdom into our prayers, soothe restless hearts with hope, steady shaken spirits with faith:

Show us the way to justice and wholeness, enlightened by truth and enfolded in your

mercy.

Holy Spirit, comforter of hearts, heal your people’s wounds

and transform our brokenness. Grant us courage and wisdom, humility and

grace, so that we may act with justice

and find peace in you. We ask this through Christ, our Lord. Amen.

Escucha nuestros gritos mientras agonizamos

y transforma nuestro quebrantamiento Danos valor y sabiduría, humildad y gracia,

Amen.
