My dear friends,

After Thanksgiving our hearts and minds focus on Christmas. We usually say “Christmas isaround the corner” and it’s true. Time flies! This Sunday we celebrate the Feast of Christ theKing of the Universe. This is a liturgical feast dedicated to the Lord which talks about His powerand glory not only over us as his disciples and followers, but also over the world and the wholeUniverse. He is Lord of Lords and king of Kings!

Right after this Feast, on December the 3rd we will celebrate the First Sunday of Advent. The Feast of Christ the King is the end of the liturgical year and after that we begin a newliturgical year on the First Sunday of Advent. We will celebrate four Sundays in Purplevestments and then the big celebration of Christmas. So, the saying “Christmas is around the corner” makes sense!

Here in our parish there is a wonderful way to get ready for Christmas as a Parish Family.Every year we invite the Hanover Wind Symphony to come to our church for a wonderfulChristmas Concert. People from the parish love it. This is also an opportunity to host peoplefrom other churches in town and also different choirs come to sing. We will have a greatafternoon with great Christmas music and a wonderful spirit of fraternity, love and peace. This year will be the eleventh concert the Symphony is performing at Our Lady of Mercy. What a wonderful way to prepare our hearts for Christmas! Of course, this beautiful event takesa lot of preparation, time and effort. We are selling tickets already at the doors of the churchevery Sunday and at the Parish Rectory to help with the expenses of the Concert. Hopefully, after we pay everything there will be some money left for the Parish.

A few weeks ago the Committee which organizes the event met at the Parish Center. Carmen Blandino, who has become a master on this matter, gave his instructions to the rest ofus. It appears that everything is under control…people from our Parish Council help him withassembling the booklets and selling tickets. The Knights of Columbus help him settingeverything up and even our young people from the Confirmation Program will help with bringingchairs up and down from the Parish Center. At least “on paper” everything looks settled; I can’twait to see the Concert. It is really inspiring for me to see many people involved, working hardto build up friendship and fraternity among us. Carmen said this may be his last year organizingthe Concert; I hope he doesn’t give up. However, we understand “the joys of a long life”. Thank you, Carmen for so many years of service to our Parish Community. Thank you especially for organizing our Christmas Concert.

Thank you also to all of you who work so hard preparing the Concert and in many other areasof our Parish Family. Let us keep Carmen and Stella his wife in our prayers. It is good tocommend our Christmas Concert to Jesus Christ of the Universe. He is the one who rules in ourown personal lives and the life of the Church. May He bless our Parish Community andeverything we do to help grow His kingdom of love and peace among us.

God bless you all,

Fr. Roberto
