Christ Jesus, the Image of the Invisible God Paraphrase from Colossians 1:15

Today’s Processional Hymn “Immortal, Invisible, God Only Wise” takes its inspiration from the Second

Scripture Reading from Colossians. Speaks of the

visible as well as the invisible. It also speaks of light, justice, power, might, goodness and love. This rich

text brings to life hints of creation, mountains and

trees, and in the end assures us of God’s everlasting

reign.

The hymn tune “St. Denio” is based on a Welsh folk

song, “Can mylnedd I nawr” (A Hundred Years from Now). The main body of the text in the first 4 stan-

zas, are taken from 1 Timothy 1:17. For a relatively

short hymn, there is a great depth of meaning con-tained in within it.

The Presentation Hymn “Stand by Me” is primarily

taken from a writing by Charles Albert Tindley. Son

of a slave, he was born in Berlin, Maryland on 7 Ju-

ly 1851. He later became a Pastor and congregation flourished under his dynamic leadership.

The music to this moving text, was written by Tom

Kendzia. Tom is a composer, speaker and liturgical

clinician facilitator. Since 2002, he has been in-

strumental with the Irish Church Music Association Summer School in Ireland. He is Music Director at

Christ the King Church, RI (URI).

The short, but effective song that Luis (5 PM) and

Kristen (10 & 11:30 AM) will sing at the beginning

of Communion, is taken from themes in the First

Reading and Holy Gospel, namely, “loving the Lord

with your heart, your being, your strength and your

mind”. Written by Laurie Klein from Oregon, this

short song has much meaning and dimension.

The Flowers in the Sanctuary are dedicated In Honor & in Loving Memory of…

All Those Buried at Saint Mary’s Cemetery

Each Sunday, during the 10:00 AM Liturgy, children are invited to come downstairs for the Liturgy of The Word on their level. They return back upstairs at the time of the offer-tory.

“Dear young people, my joyful hope is to see you keep running the race before you … ‘May the Holy Spirit urge

you on as you this race. The Church needs your momen-tum, your intuitions, your faith. We need them!”

~ Pope Francis, Christus Vivit, 299

Time, Talents & Treasures

Summer of Discernment …

in preparation for our Ministry Fair this coming September 7th and 8th. Fr. Dolan has asked that we take

part in a daily Prayer of Discernment this summer. By praying this prayer we are asking God to help us to recog-nize our gifts, and to be open to using them to build up and strengthen our community.

Each of us is called, in a unique way, to do the work of Christ - to be His hands and feet in the communities in which we live. As it states in scripture, (1Corinthians 12:4-6)

“There are different kinds of gifts but the same Spirit distributes them. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone, it is the same God at work.”

We are all intricately connected as members of the Body of Christ. If we each commit to discovering and exploring our gifts, then we cannot help but to better recognize our roles in building each other up…hence the parish community in which we live.

After saying the Prayer of Discernment, sit in silence for 2 to 3 minutes, opening your heart and mind to the Lord. Write down, even it doesn’t make sense, all that comes to mind. Complete your prayer time by thanking God for his goodness and reciting the Our Father.

Ministry Fair to be held on the weekend of SEPTEMBER 7th and 8th.

Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish will be hosting a time and talent ministry fair on the weekend of September 7th

and 8th. The purpose of the fair is to generate awareness, enthusiasm and involvement among our parishioners and to ultimately increase our parish ministries. Active participa-tion in our parish community is vital to the life of the Church. The fair will showcase all of our parish ministries and you will be able to discern how your particular talents can be used to serve others. Through our Baptism, we are each called to be followers and disciples of Jesus Christ. We encourage you to spend time over the summer praying about where God is calling you to share your faith, time and talents. More information will be posted as the date be-comes closer. We look forward to seeing you there.

Love, Naturally! Natural Family Planning

Cooperating with God's design for married love The dates of National Natural Family Planning Awareness

Week highlight the anniversary of the papal encyclical Hu-manae vitae (July 25), which articulates Catholic beliefs about

human sexuality, conjugal love, and responsible parenthood. The dates also mark the feast of Saints Joachim and Anne

(July 26), the parents of the Blessed Mother. Saints Anne and Joachim, are powerful intercessors for all married couples,

expectant mothers, and married couples who are having diffi-culty conceiving, as well as those who are aging. ~ USCCB Secretariat of Pro-Life Activities

A FAMILY PERSPECTIVE by Bud Ozar Cell phones, emails, faxes, texts and voice mails can reduce

our lives to a continual series of interrupted moments.

Listen to Jesus in today’s Gospel: “You are anxious about

many things” robbing us of the precious time needed to BE

with others. Quality time is QUANTITY time.

Vocation Reflections We are like Martha. There is plenty to be anxious about, but only one thing is required of us. For five minutes today, be like Mary. Rest with Jesus; ask Him what is required of you. If priesthood or reli-gious life is the answer, call Father Jeff Gubbiotti,

Director of Vocations, Archdiocesan Center at St. Thomas Semi-nary, Tel #860-242-5573, email [email protected] or visit the web at www.vocationshartford.org

The Marian Guild is providing

“Meal Bags to Go”

for children at St. Ann’s Soup Kitchen

Thanks to the generosity of parishioners, we now have an abundant supply of peanut butter and jelly for the summer. We are still in need of snack packs of trail mix, raisins, etc., juice boxes and shelf stable milk boxes. Please make sure to mark these donations to the “Marian Guild.”.

We greatly appreciate your help and generosity.

Marian Guild News Thanks to the Social Justice Committee, and countless vol-unteers from Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish, who have served St. Ann’s Soup Kitchen for decades, our mission was born. The Marian Guild had adapted St. Ann’s Kitchen as our charity to support. We began this journey with a specific commitment...to pro-vide meal bags “To Go” for the children who are supported by St. Ann’s. These bags are delivered weekly and will help bridge the gap left during the summer when children cannot rely on school meal programs. The folks at the Soup Kitchen who distribute the bags each Friday describe the experience as “magical.” The children are so excited and joyful to take home their very own bag. Lucy, the manager of St. Ann’s, tells us this is the first time the soup kitchen has been able to provide a service such as this. No child should ever be hungry...EVER ! Our committee is humbled by the overwhelming generosity of our parishioners. Your donations of food items we re-quested, exceeded our expectations ! From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you !! For those who have experience St. Ann’s Soup Kitchen, no words are needed. It is a very special place indeed. All those at St. Ann’s who serve those in need, do so with God’s love and His Grace. It is an honor to begin this jour-ney, together, sharing our faith.

Gratefully, The Marian Guild St. Ann’s Soup Kitchen Committee
