PASTOR’S COLUMN
Dear Community of Our Lady of Perpetual Help,
“The people stirred up a persecution against Paul and Barnabas and expelled them from their territory ...” Acts
As we struggle to live the Gospel, and bring others to God, we will suffer perse-cution, there will be problems and obstacles. The evil one will always oppose all the works of God.
But the Lord is faithful to us. He will be with us in all our journey of life. He will give us strength, will console us and lead us to success in all we do for Him.
“God will wipe away every tear from their eyes …” Revelation
Let us draw close to our shepherd, who works wonders in our lives.
“My sheep hear my voice … I know them and they follow Me. I will give them eternal life … and they shall not perish.
No one can take them out of my hand …” John
Monsignor Lorenzo

What cons tutes a concern worth repor ng?
Parents have a responsibility to report concerns they have about another person’s behaviors or ac ons that could put their children — or any children — at risk. These concerns are anything that makes the parent un-easy or uncomfortable, or anything that a child reports made them feel uneasy or uncomfortable. Some exam-ples of seemingly li le things that can be worth re-por ng include: A teacher covering her glass classroom door with artwork, elimina ng the ability to see into the classroom from the hall; a youth ministry icebreaker ac-
vity, where teens have to pass a mint candy from per-son to person using only toothpicks in their mouth, de-spite the discomfort of some par cipants. MINDFULNESS
When we make efforts to be fully aware and awake to everything we do and all that surrounds us, we become mindful of God’s gifts and the grace available to us.
“Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on
earth” Colossians 3:2
This takes practice, joyful effort, and discipline.

THE VOICE Jesus says, “My sheep hear my voice; I know them, and they follow me.” Earlier in this Good Shepherd discourse, John the Evangelist explains that Jesus is using “figures of speech.” We cannot take Jesus’ words literally, since we are people, not sheep. We understand the Lord figura vely, then, discovering all the helpful ways that we are similar to sheep. A quick Internet search reveals a number of videos showing how sheep ignore every human voice except that of their shepherd. It is remarkable to see how single-minded sheep are, totally ab-sorbed in grazing, disregarding everything around them. Even when impersonators imitate the shep-herd and call the sheep in the same way the shep-herd does, the sheep do not bother to look up. The instant the real shepherd calls out, however, the sheep snap to a en on, call back in their own way, and come running. CATCHY! It can be helpful to think of our connec on to Je-sus in terms of sheep. Our hearts long to hear the voice of Jesus and respond as readily as farm ani-mals. In reality, however, not one of us living today was alive in first century Pales ne. We never heard Jesus tell us, in his own accent, how he will never allow anyone to take us out of his hand. Here again we think figura vely, then, imagining those “voices” in daily life that help us snap to a en on and draw close to Jesus. Today’s Gospel invites us to spend
me thinking of all that brings us to the Lord. Con-versa ons, scriptures, athle cs, hospitality, service, music, laughter, struggle—any of these things might help our ears perk up as we look to the Lord. As we prac ce listening for “the voice,” we may be sur-prised to realize how o en Jesus has been calling to us in the business of our days. Once we get his voice into our ears, we hope never to lose the sound. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc
eterna y no perecerán jamás … Nadie las arrebatará de mi mano …” Juan
