From today’s Gospel reading:

Some Greeks who had come to worship at the Passover Feast came to Phillip, who was from Bethsaida in Galilee, and asked him, “Sir, we would like to see Jesus.”

Reflection:

Jesus and his disciples had not preached to these Greeks. They didn’t proselytize them; they

came of their own free will. What was the attraction? They and we are attracted by the One who, in his hour, is a completely faithful servant to God; who shows total generosity, willing to give us everything for us, without

holding back anything in reserve.

So, we ask ourselves:

How have we benefitted from the sacrifices others have made on our behalf? What sacrifices are we being asked to make for the wellbeing of others? How have we experienced the fruits of these sacrifices in our own lives?

De la lectura evangélica de hoy:

Algunos griegos que habían venido a adorar en la Fiesta de Pascua se acercaron a Felipe, que era de Bethsaida en Galilea, y le preguntaron: "Señor, nos gustaría ver a Jesús".

Reflexión:

Jesús y sus discípulos no habían predicado a estos griegos, no los habían querido hacer

prosélitos; vinieron por su propia voluntad. ¿Cuál era la atracción? A ellos y a nosotros nos atrae Aquel que, en su hora, es un siervo

completamente fiel a Dios; que muestra total generosidad, dispuesto a dar todo por nosotros, volcándose completamente en nuestro servicio.

Por lo tanto, nos preguntamos:

¿Cómo nos hemos beneficiado de los sacrificios que otros han hecho por nosotros?

¿Qué sacrificios se nos pide que hagamos por el bienestar de los demás? ¿Cómo hemos experimentado los frutos de esos sacrificios en nuestra propia vida?

The OLPH Cookbook: “Taste and See” By Jane Messina, Parish Council Secretary

We have recently rediscovered our parish cookbook with recipes spanning our rich, diverse heritage. It had no copyright date, and little information is known about when it was assembled, but now we have had it re-printed just for you! We know it was originally published many years ago; there are even recipes from Father Stokes! Other recipes represent a past OLPH cook and her mother, many from parish-ioners no longer on this earth and some others from among the living. Have you ever heard of Willy Rice? Beaumont Inn Corn Pudding? How about Crazy Aunt Tootsie’s Goulash? Are they all healthy foods? Not necessarily!!! But they are all tasty and will bring back fond memories of our amazing heritage. The Spanish Bread Pudding could win a prize on Top Chef! We are offering the book several ways: by ordering through the parish office or after mass. To order through the church office, please either mail a check to OLPH church with “cookbook donation” in the memo line, or place order at 813-248-5701. Please indi-cate if you would like to pick up after mass (and which Mass) or if mailing is necessary. Beginning 3/27/2021, we will be selling books outside the church in compliance with COVID -19 safety protocols. Since the cost of the reprint was paid for by an anonymous donor, 100% of your suggested $15 donation will go to the church. This cookbook represents our past. Looking to the future, we would like to create a “New Testament” cookbook that will include recipes from our current parishioners. Please submit your favorite recipe in the box at the back of the church; we will be testing random samples and hope to have the next book by later this year. We really would love to have input from our Mexican, Salvadoran, Filipino, and other families who make up the amazing and richly diverse fabric of our church!

Sabemos que fue publicado originalmente hace muchos años; ¡incluso hay recetas del Pa-dre Stokes! Holy Week Celebrations at OLPH. Program and Guidelines.

2020 was a challenging year for Holy Week liturgical services. The celebrations were conducted clo-sed doors and without the participation of the faithful in person. This year we see with great hope how the situation of the Covid-19 gradually is improving and that is why most of our services will be open doors, although with some restrictions. Please read carefully and if you plan to attend, arrive at least 30 minutes in advance as the doors will close upon reaching the permitted capacity.

1. In all our celebrations the use of masks and social distancing within the Church is required.

2. Members of the same household (those who live in the same house) may all sit together on the same pew without keeping social distancing but those whom not social distancing is required.

3. Communion shall be distributed only in the hand and should come closer to communion with the mask and keeping social distancing.

4. Once the Church reaches the limit of its capacity, the doors will close, and you will be able to at-tend the next service. We kindly ask your cooperation and consideration, arrive at least 30 minutes before each service to find a seat.

5. At the end of the liturgy please avoid greeting and crowding inside and outside the parish grounds.

6. On PALM SUNDAY we will have a celebration in English at 10:00 AM and two celebrations in Spanish, one at 8:00 AM and one at 12:00 PM. Limited Capacity, Mask Use and Social Distancing are required.

7. On HOLY THURSDAY we will have a bilingual celebration at 7:00 Pm and Transfer of the Bles-sed Sacrament to the Chapel dedicated for this special occasion followed by the Night Adoration that will last until 10:00 PM. Limited Capacity, Use of Mask and Social Distancing are required.

8. On GOOD FRIDAY we will have the Sermon of the Seven Bilingual Words at 3:00 PM. At 7:00 PM we will have the Celebration of the Passion of the Lord. Limited Capacity, Mask Use and Social Distancing are required.

9. The HOLY SATURDAY we will have the Easter Vigil at 8:00 PM. It will be a closed-door liturgy and only catechumens, their sponsors, close relatives and other liturgical ministers will participate. Use of mask and social distancing are required. We ask for your understanding of the inconvenience this may cause you.

10. On EASTER SUNDAY the services will be held as usual: at 10:00 AM in English and at 12:00 PM in Spanish. Use of Mask and Social Distance are required.

Programa y Directrices para las celebraciones de Semana Santa en OLPH

El año 2020 fue un reto para servicios litúrgicos de Semana Santa. Las celebraciones se realizaron a puertas cerradas y sin la participación de los fieles en persona. Este año vemos con mucha esperanza como la situación del Covid-19 va cediendo paulatinamente y por eso la mayoría de nuestros servi-cios serán a puertas abiertas, aunque con algunas restricciones. Por favor, lea cuidadosamente y si planea asistir, llegue al menos con 30 minutos de anticipación pues las puertas se cerrarán al llegar a la capacidad permitida.

1. En todas nuestras celebraciones el uso de la máscara y el distanciamiento social dentro de la Igle-sia es requerido.

2. Miembros de un mismo núcleo familiar (que viven todos en una misma casa) podrán sentarse to-dos juntos en una misma banca sin guardar el distanciamiento social sino habitan en la misma viviendo el distanciamiento social es requerido.

3. La Comunión se distribuirá solamente en la mano y debe acercarse a comulgar con la máscara y guardando el distanciamiento social.

4. Una vez que la Iglesia llegue al límite de su capacidad se cerrarán las puertas y podrá asistir al próximo servicio. Por esos pedimos su cooperación y consideración, llegando al menos 30 minu-tos antes de cada servicio para evitar que por exceso de capacidad no pueda entrar a la Iglesia.

5. Al terminar la liturgia por favor evite el saludo y los aglomeramientos dentro y fuera de los pre-dios de la parroquia.

6. El DOMINGO DE RAMOS tendremos una celebración en inglés a las 10:00 AM y dos celebra-ciones en español, una a las 8:00 AM y otra a las 12:00 PM . Capacidad Limitada, Uso de Masca-rilla y Distanciamiento Social son requeridos.

7. El JUEVES SANTO tendremos una celebración bilingüe a las 7:00 Pm y Traslado del Santísimo Sacramento a la Capilla dedicada para esta ocasión especial seguido de la Adoración Nocturna que durará hasta las 10:00 PM. Capacidad Limitada, Uso de Mascarilla y Distanciamiento Social son requeridos.

8. El VIERNES SANTO tendremos el Sermón de las Sietes Palabras Bilingüe a las 3:00 PM. A las 7:00 PM tendremos la Celebración de la Pasión del Señor. Capacidad Limitada, Uso de Mascarilla y Distanciamiento Social son requeridos.

9. El SÁBADO SANTO tendremos la Vigilia Pascual a las 8:00 PM. Será una liturgia a puertas ce-rradas y solamente participarán los catecúmenos, sus padrinos, familiares próximos y demás mi-nistros litúrgicos. Uso de mascarilla y distanciamiento social son requeridos. Solicitamos su com-prensión por los inconvenientes que esto le pueda ocasionar.

10. El DOMINGO DE PASCUA los servicios se celebrarán como de costumbre: a las 10:00 AM en inglés y a las 12:00 PM en español. Uso de Mascarilla y Distanciamiento Social son requeridos.

U.S. Bishop Chairmen for Doctrine and for Pro-Life Address the Use of the Johnson & Johnson Covid-19 Vaccine WASHINGTON– On March 2, Bishop Kevin C. Rhoades of Fort Wayne-South Bend, chairman of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ (USCCB) Committee on Doctrine, and Archbishop Joseph F. Naumann of Kansas City in Kansas, chairman of the USCCB’s Committee on Pro-Life Activities, is-sued a statement on the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine recently approved for use in the United States. “The approval of Johnson & Johnson’s COVID-19 vaccine for use in the United States again raises questions about the moral permissibility of using vaccines developed, tested, and/or produced with the help of abortion-derived cell lines. “Pfizer and Moderna’s vaccines raised concerns because an abortion-derived cell line was used for testing them, but not in their production. The Johnson & Johnson vaccine, however, was developed, tested and is produced with abortion-derived cell lines raising additional moral concerns. The Con-gregation for the Doctrine of the Faith has judged that ‘when ethically irreproachable Covid-19 vac-cines are not available … it is morally acceptable to receive Covid-19 vaccines that have used cell lines from aborted fetuses in their research and production process.’[1] However, if one can choose among equally safe and effective COVID-19 vaccines, the vaccine with the least connection to abor-tion-derived cell lines should be chosen. Therefore, if one has the ability to choose a vaccine, Pfizer or Moderna’s vaccines should be chosen over Johnson & Johnson’s.

“While we should continue to insist that pharmaceutical companies stop using abortion-derived cell lines, given the world-wide suffering that this pandemic is causing, we affirm again that being vac-cinated can be an act of charity that serves the common good.” For further details, we refer people to our earlier December 2020 statement, to our Answers to Key Ethical Questions About COVID-19 Vaccines, to the Congregation of the Doctrine of the Faith’s Note, and to the statement of the Vatican Covid-19 Commission in collaboration with the Pontifical Acade-my for Life.

La Congregación para la Doctrina de la Fe ha juzgado que ‘cuando las vacunas con-tra el COVID-19, que son éticamente irreprochables no están disponibles..., es moralmente aceptable reci-bir vacunas contra el COVID-19 que han utilizado líneas celulares de fetos abortados en su proceso de investigación y producción’. [1] Sin embargo, si se puede elegir entre vacunas contra el COVID-19 igualmente seguras y efectivas, se debe elegir la vacuna con la menor conexión con las líneas celulares derivadas del aborto. Por lo tanto, si la per-sona tiene la capacidad de elegir una vacuna, se debe elegir entre las vacunas creadas por Pfizer o Moder-na, en vez de la producida por Johnson & Johnson. Mientras que nosotros debemos seguir insistiendo en que las empresas farmacéuticas dejen de usar líneas celulares derivadas del aborto, dado el sufrimiento que está causando esta pandemia a nivel mundial, afir-mamos nuevamente que vacunarse puede ser un acto de caridad que responde al bienestar común”. PARA SOLICITAR ACTA DE ALGUN SACRAMENTO 1. Si ha recibido algún sacramento en OLPH y necesita un certificado, llene una “Solicitud de Información Sacramen-tal” y mándela por correo. Envíe con ella un money order o un cheque por $10 (por cada certificado). 2. También podrá venir en persona a la Oficina Parroquial en horas de servicio. Si viene en persona, el pago puede hacerse también en efectivo. El certificado se le enviará a vuelta de correo o Ud. podrá recogerlo cuando se le no-tifique– asegúrese de que toda su información postal esté completa.

LEGION DE MARIA PARA NIÑOS, JUVENILES Y ADULTOS La Legión de María para adultos mayores de 18 años le invita a sus reuniones semanales todos los jueves a las 7:00 PM Via Zoom. La Legión de María Juvenil invita a todos los niños mayores de 8 años y juveniles menores de 18 años a participar en sus reuniones semanales, todos los lunes 6:00pm Via Zoom.

If you need a Sacrament Certificate from OLPH, you have to fill out a “Request Form”, send it by mail or bring it in per-son to the Parish Office (days and times of operation), along with $10 check or money order (per certificate). If you come in person, you can bring cash. We will send your certificate by mail, please check your mailing information is com-plete.
