“Now the Lord has spoken who formed me as his servant from the womb...” Isaiah 49:5 You have to do what God is calling you to do and I have to do what God is calling me to do. Guess what, each of has been given a different plan! So, stop comparing yourself to others. Don’t let envy and jealousy enter your life. Be thankful for the gifts God has given you and gener-ously share them with others.

Pray for Vocations to the Priest-hood, especially among the young

men of our Parish and of our Archdiocese.

We must develop and maintain the capacity to forgive. He who is devoid of the power to forgive is devoid of the power to love. There is some good

in the worst of us and some evil in the best of us. When we discover this, we are less prone to hate our enemies. - - - - - - - - -

In the End, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends.

- Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Dear God, I surrender to You the day now over. May only the love remain. Take all else into the fire of Your trans-formative power. Release me, release others, from any effects of my wrongmindedness or wrongdoing. Dear God, Return me to Your light. As I now give to You who I am, what I did, who I loved, who I failed to love, please make all things right. Take all things. May I continue to grow in Your light and love. Tomorrow, may I be better. Amen

January 15, 2017 THE SEASON OF ORDINARY TIME This past Monday as we celebrated the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord, we brought the Christmas season to a close. The Liturgical Year contin-ues with the Season of Ordinary Time, that is, our lives ordered week by

week be the systematic and continuous proclamation of the Gospel. As you know, when we began Cycle A of the Lectionary on the first Sunday of Advent, we began again to read the Gospel of Matthew. This Gospel will dominate, though it will not be exclusive in our Sunday celebrations this year. One usage of the word ordinary is “nothing special or important.” However, in the Church’s usage of that word in regard to the Liturgical Season of Ordinary Time, it means that our lives are put into order by the Word of God. Some might be tempted to see this season as distinctly discon-nected from the Advent-Christmas cycle. However, that is not so. These seasons highlighted for us the mystery of the Incarnation when the “word became flesh” in our world. This is not merely a mystery of the historical birth of Christ, but the ever-present reality of the Presence of the Word of God which is constantly in our midst. Join me through this Ordinary Time in breaking open the Word of God - particularly the Gospel of Matthew - so that our lives might be brought to great order by the Word that is spoken and dwells among us SATURDAY EVENING SCHEDULE As you are aware, we a experimenting with the time of Mass on Saturday evenings during this winter, moving the Mass time (at least temporarily) from 5 pm to 4:30 pm. I hope this hasn’t been too confusing or upsetting for you. The feedback, so far, has actually been favorable. I was a bit neglectful in announcing an adjustment to the regulation scheduled times on Saturday afternoons for the Sacrament of Penance. So, allow me to clarify. With Mass at 4:30 pm, it will be necessary to adjust the times for confessions. Please note that I will be available for the Sacrament of Penance from 3 pm – 4 pm. This will give me a slight breather before Mass at 4:30 (it also extends the amount of time to a full hour. Until we know for certain whether the Mass time will change permanently (I will announce that decision in late March) we will not be adjusting the postings on the websites for the parish or the archdiocese. We will however adjust the weekly bulletin accordingly. If you regularly attend Mass on Saturday evenings please let me know what you think. LITANY OF SAINTS On January 21, we remember the life and the martyrdom of Saint Agnes. Like sever-al other virgin martyrs of the Early Church, Agnes was martyred at age 12 around the year 305 AD and was widely venerated by the faithful in and around Rome. Many of the Church Fathers wrote about her faith and courage including Pope Damascus, St. Jerome, St. Ambrose, & St. Augustine. Though lean on specific details, she was popularized in the hero lore of the faithful. A rather interesting ritual takes place on her feast day in Rome each year, playing off her name (Agnes is derived from the Latin word agnus meaning lamb). On her feast, the Pope will bless yearling lambs which will be sheared. The wool from those blessed lambs will be used to weave a very special vestment worn by Archbishops throughout the world. The vestment is called the pallium. It is a band of white wool worn over the shoulders of each Arch-bishop who is the Ordinary of an Archdiocese (including our own Archbishop Carl-son). Later in the year, on the Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul (June 29), the newly appointed archbishops for that year, receive the pallium in a ceremony at St. Peter’s Basilica. The lamb’s wool pallium signifies that the Archbishops serve the Lamb of God and wear the yoke as a burden of Apostolic Ministry to their people. Saint Agnes, pray for us! Father Rick Schilli

Worried Sick

Anxiety is an uneasy feeling that something may harm you or a loved one. This feeling can be nor-mal and sometimes even helpful. If you’re starting a new job or taking a test, it might make you more alert and ready for action. But sometimes anxiety can linger or become overwhelming. When it gets in the way of good health and peace of mind, it’s called anxiety disorder.

If you have anxiety disorder, you’re not alone. Each year, tens of millions of Americans of all ages suffer from long term anx-iety. Among children, anxiety disorders are the most common form of mental illness. Take heart, treatment for anxiety disor-der includes both medication and therapy and is highly effec-tive.

Here are some bible verses about worry that may bring you comfort:

Rejoice in the Lord always. I shall say it again: rejoice! Your kindness should be known to all. The Lord is near. Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4: 4-7

Be still and confess that I am God! I am exalted among the nations, and on the earth. Psalms 46: 11

Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart; and you will find rest for your-selves. For my yoke is easy, and my burden light. Matthew 11: 28-30

As for you, do not seek what you are to eat and what you are to drink, and do not worry anymore. All the nations of the world seek for these things, and your Father knows that you need them. Luke 12: 29-30

But now, thus says the Lord, who created you, O Jacob, and formed you, O Israel: Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name: you are mine. When you pass through the water, I will be with you; in the rivers you shall not drown. When you walk through fire, you shall not be burned; the flames shall not consume you. Isiah 43: 1-2

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give it to you. Do not let your hearts be trou-bled or afraid. John 14: 27

Join us for an occasion to come together to pray for hope and healing for those impacted by infertility.
