Easter Sunday

PASTOR’S DESK

On behalf of myself, the staff and the members of the parish council, we wish you

all an end to nor'easters and a blessed and joyous Easter.

This is the most important liturgical celebration of the entire year. Christ has

promised in the action of these three days that through his death and Resurrection

we can overcome death and grow more and more godlike as we journey toward

him and our own resurrection.

It is no secret that the Church chooses to celebrate this fundamental reality of our

faith when even nature conspires to send this uplifting message. At Christmas we

celebrate the birth of the light of the world at a time when nature tells us we need it

most, in the darkest days of winter. So too, at Easter, nature tells us that the new

birth of spring, the resurrection, if you will of flowers, trees, plants, grass and birds

is upon us. Outside the front door of the Church, you can see flowers pushing

their way up through the earth defying the effort of recent weather to suppress

them.

Christ by taking on our nature even to the ultimate point of human frailty; death

has suffused not just us but all of nature with his grace. Thus, when your favorite

tree comes back to life, when your heart is lifted as your beloved says "I love you,"

when you raise up your child running to greet you as you come home from work

and when your family and friends "raise your spirits" by gathering to celebrate your

milestone birthday, all of this speaks the message of today. The whole cosmos

proclaims in its very core that Jesus Christ has indeed risen from the dead and all

of us with him.

A hearty welcome to all of you who join us today, those who come often and those

who do not, those who are parishioners and those who are not, those who are

visitors or guests, those who are of other faiths or no faith. Within these walls we

are one family. Today we are overjoyed to celebrate together for: " This is the day

the Lord has made, alleluia. Let us rejoice and be glad, alleluia."

~Fr. Frank

Clergy Health & Retirement Trust: Easter Collection 2018

Every year at Easter, we join with family and friends to honor and thank our priests through our parish collections. Our 590 priests share Christ’s good news, joyfully perform good works, and build strong communities of good faith. Remember priests who have made a meaningful difference in your life, and consider honoring him/them with a generous gift to today’s collection. Thank you for your prayerful and generous support of our priests.

Encounter the Risen Christ with CRS Rice Bowl

We prayed, fasted and gave alms—and now we celebrate Easter joy! Our Lenten journey with CRS Rice Bowl ends as we encounter our Risen Lord. We reflect on our brothers and sisters we have walked with, and we commit to bringing Easter joy to each person we meet in our daily lives. Don’t forget to turn in your CRS Rice Bowl to the Parish Office. You may offer a cash donation, write a check to OLOS with “Catholic Relief Services” written on the memo line, or bring your bills and change in the Rice Bowl itself. Thank you for your generosity; we hope you have found this act of solidarity to be enriching and fulfilling.

Thank you!!

Thank you to all the volunteers that helped in making our Lenten

journey so beautiful. From all the special services, music and acts of

service, like the cleaning of the church and hall for our celebration

of Holy Week. Your generous giving of time and talent is a true

example of Christ’s love.

Equal Exchange Summer Mission Fundraiser

Many thanks to everyone who purchased fairly traded coffee, tea, and chocolate through our most recent Summer Mission Trip Fund-raiser. We raised nearly $500 which will go towards participants’ trip fees as well as general expenses including group transportation. Your support for farmers around the world and our parish’s youth are greatly appreciated! It’s not too late to support these great causes. We will place one more Equal Exchange order on April 25th. Visit the homepage of the parish website for a link to the electronic catalog and place o r d e r s w i t h T e r e s a C o d a ([email protected]; 781-784-2265).

********************************************************************** OLOS Book Group

The next OLOS Book Group meeting will be on Sunday, April 15th at 2:00 p.m. in the Bullock Center. All are welcome. We will be discussing When Breath Becomes Air, by Paul Kalanithi. Please come ready to discuss the book. If you have any questions, be in touch with Teresa Coda ([email protected]) or Monica LaFond.

About the book: At the age of thirty-six, on the verge of completing a decade's worth of training as a neurosurgeon, Paul Kalanithi was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer. One day he was a doctor treating the dying, and the next he was a patient struggling to live. And just like that, the future he and his wife had imagined evaporated. When Breath Becomes Air chronicles Kalanithi's transformation from a naïve medical student "possessed," as he wrote, "by the question of what, given that all organisms die, makes a virtuous and meaningful life" into a neurosurgeon at Stanford working in the brain, the most critical place for human identity, and finally into a patient and new father confronting his own mortality.

What makes life worth living in the face of death? What do you do when the future, no longer a ladder toward your goals in life, flattens out into a perpetual present? What does it mean to have a child, to nurture a new life as another fades away? These are some of the questions Kalanithi wrestles with in this profoundly moving, exquisitely observed memoir.

your grace in the Sacraments of Initiation. Grant them a strong and living

flavor, its own brand of errors, its own glories, its own kind of deep, dank de-
