THIRD ORDER OF THE MOST HOLY TRINITY - GLORIA TIBI TRINITAS!!!

On Sunday, January 22, 2017,at the celebration of the 10:30 Eucharist, fifteen men and women from different walks of life, different ages, different backgrounds will profess the vows of Poverty, Chastity, and Obedience in the Order of the Most Holy Trinity and the Captives. All very different, yet sharing the common vision of our Holy Founder, St. John DeMatha. These men and women will become part of a Religious Family that began in the year 1198 when Christians were being persecuted and martyred for their faith in Jesus. St. John DeMatha felt divinely inspired to found a Religious Community that would come to the aid of those persecuted for their faith and for all who are less free, less able to achieve their God-given status as Sons and Daughters of God. Throughout these last eight centuries, the Order has striven to, as the Prophet Isaiah would boldly proclaim: "...announce liberty to captives, freedom to exiles, sight to the blind, to announce favor from the Lord God." Within a very short span of time the Order realized that slavery and captivity take on many forms of evil. In our day the scourge of human trafficking, addictions to drugs and alcohol, pornography, economic and social injustice cry out for liberation which only comes from the Lord Jesus Christ.

The Trinitarian Order is composed of three Orders. The First, is made up of Priests and Brothers who have sought to bring the Gospel of liberation to all the corners of the globe. Making strong these efforts toward spiritual and human liberation are the prayers of the Trinitarian, contemplative Nuns around the globe who pray continuously, both day and night, that the work of the Redemption wrought by Christ might become fully realized. Finally, men and women, married or single, in every era, have sought to unite themselves more fully, more intimately, in the mission of redemptive charity envisioned by our holy Founder. Consequently there arose a tremendous force of men and women, uniting themselves to the poor, chaste and obedient Christ, who have carried out, through prayer and action, realizing in concrete yet varied ways, the founding purpose, the gift, the "charism" of the Trinitarian Order: Glory to our God, One and Three, and freedom to all who suffer with the chains of slavery, making them less free, less human.

Next Sunday, these fifteen men and women will take on the vision and the mission of our Holy Founder, St. John DeMatha. We offer them our congratulations and our prayers. If YOU feel called to be part of our Trinitarian family, call the parish office and glimpse the journey of true freedom in Jesus. We will provide all the information needed. As Jesus invited His first Disciples: "Come and see!"

Congratulations to our newly professed Trinitarian brothers and sisters:

Background to understand Sunday’s Scripture readings.

December 25, 2016 Gloria In Excelsis Deo January 15, 2017 Second Sunday in Ordinary Time

Second Sunday in Ordinary Time, Cycle A Sunday, January 15, 2017

First Reading Isaiah 49:3, 5-6

God's servant, Israel, will be made a light to the nations.

Responsorial Psalm Psalm 40:2, 4, 7-10

God desires obedience.

Second Reading 1 Corinthians 1:1-3

Paul greets the Church in Corinth.

Gospel Reading John 1:29-34

John testifies that Jesus is the Lamb of God, God's own Son.

Background on the Gospel Reading

This Sunday we break from our reading of Matthew's Gospel (the primary Gospel for our current liturgical

cycle, Cycle A) to read from John's Gospel. We heard Matthew's account of Jesus' baptism last Sunday, on the

feast of the Baptism of the Lord. Today, we hear John the Baptist's testimony about Jesus as found in John's

Gospel. John's Gospel differs from the other Gospels because John does not describe Jesus' baptism by John the

Baptist. Instead, John the Baptist announces that he knows that Jesus is the Son of God.

In today's reading, John the Baptist sees Jesus approaching and cries out, giving witness about who Jesus is. In

John's testimony he says that he saw the Spirit descend upon Jesus. By this sign, John the Baptist knew that

Jesus was the one who is to come after him.

John the Baptist uses two titles for Jesus that are familiar to us. John calls Jesus the “Lamb of God” and the

“Son of God.” By using these titles, John the Baptist identifies Jesus' ultimate purpose: to redeem sinful

humanity.

John the Baptist's testimony about Jesus clearly distinguishes John's baptism from the Baptism that Jesus will

inaugurate. John baptizes with water; Jesus will baptize with the Holy Spirit. John also puts his practice of

baptism in the context of Jesus' ministry. The purpose of John's baptism was to make Jesus known to Israel.

John the Baptist's sense of purpose is clearly identified in this reading: he baptized in order to prepare for and

make known the ministry of the One who was to follow. John's witness is an excellent example of what it means

to be a disciple. By our Baptism, we are called to make Jesus known to the entire world by our words and by the

witness of our lives.

“Christians celebrate the Sacrament of Marriage because they know they need it! They need it to stay together and to carry out their mission as parents. “In joy and in sadness, in sickness and in health”. This is what the spouses say to one another during the celebration of the Sacrament, and in their Marriage they pray with one another and with the community. They do so because they need to, for the long journey they are making together: it is a long journey, not for a brief spell but for an entire life!”

Pope Francis
