Hello fellow parishioners. My name is Shona Terrell, and Iam blessed to be the coordinator for the Youth FaithFormation program on Sunday mornings from 9:15-10:15.This year we are hoping to add a High School small groupand 7th Grade class. We are in need of parishioners toprayerfully consider joining us in sharing their faith with ouryouth. At this time we are looking for adults willing to helpteach 1st and 3/4th grade. We are also needing a teacher,or couple, interested in leading a 7th grade class which willbe a small group format, preparing for Confirmation over twoyears using Chosen, and some Bible studies from AscensionPress. Our High School small group for grades 9-12 will focuson teaching the youth how to read and pray with scripture, and help them develop in their faith community. Pleasecontact me if you’re at all interested in being a sub, assistantor teacher. I would love to meet you and find a good spot foryou on our team! Email: [email protected] or call 501-786-4797.

Retreat in Daily Life(RIDL)

A 30-week retreat experience,lived in daily life,

based on the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius; an invitationto ‘know Jesus more intimately, to love Him more intenselyand follow Him more closely’; is being offered this fall atOur Lady of Holy Souls. See brochure in back of church.

For more information, contactDiane Bausom, [email protected],

or Alice Nahas [email protected].

“Then Jesus said to them, ‘Neither shall I tellyou what authority I do these things’” Mark 11:33

Jesus is our hero. We so want the Lord to really talk to us,just speak to the deepest place within. We want him tospeak to us in such a way that we will finally truly understandand be converted to our very depths. Our knowledge of Jesusseems so superficial, seems to have so little real impacton our lives. The powerful tools of the media works so wellon us that we seem to be more formed and guided by theirfalse propaganda than the living words of our Lord JesusChrist. How much we need to have Jesus speak to us withauthority, deeply within, so that we might truly know whohe is and be converted to him heart and soul.

An excerpt from Living With Christ

Jesus is our hero, someone to look up to, someone to copy,to want to grow up and be like. When we ask our childrenwho they would like to grow up and be like, will they answerJesus or will they answer a famous basketball or footballplayer or tennis or golf pro? Someone that makes a lot ofmoney? A lot of us are geared that way, we need so much,a nice home, car, clothes, vacations, and the list can goon. It is difficult to have these things without the money. There is nothing wrong with being successful, with makingmoney, we just have to be sure that we aren’t worshipingwhat the money buys us. We need to know what is mostimportant, the life here or the life hereafter.

Jesus does talk to us through Scripture, through devotionals, through other people and sometimes directly. We have tobe open to receiving his messages. He does call us to livea life of service, a life of love with him and others. We aresupposed to love everyone, no matter who or what theyare. He calls us to forgive and ask for forgiveness. Beinglike Jesus isn’t easy, but it is a choice that we can makeand if made we open ourselves to many opportunities forGod to work with and through us for his kingdom on earth.Through our actions, we can help others find their way toknow, love and serve God. It’s a choice, a good choice, oneworth making.

Encounter Jesus, Serve Others

IN THE FIRE LANEPlease do not park in the fire lane -- anywhere thereare RED MARKS on the curb. If you park in those areas, you might prevent someone you love from quickly receivingthe emergency help that they need.

The two studies we plan to offer this fall are:

Opening Your Heart explores the fundamental questionsof our Catholic faith and our relationship with Jesus Christ.Topics like prayer, reading the Bible, the rold of the HolySpirit in our lives and what we're supposed to do with suffer-ing that feels senseless are explored. This is the first Biblestudy in the series for Walking With Purpose.

Touching the Divine focuses on the qualities of Jesus re-vealed through the Gospel of John. This study draws us intoa deeper relationship with Jesus as we reflect on His per-sonality. The more we know Him, the more our love for Himwill grow. This study of the Gospel of John will teach us howmuch Jesus loves us, and how His love is the only thing thatwill truly satisfy our souls.

There will be an evening study on Wednesdays beginningon September 4, at 6pm until 7:30pm. A morning sessionwill be offered on Thursday mornings beginning September5 at 8:30am until 10am. Both studies are 22 weeks withbreaks in the schedule for Thanksgiving, Christmas, NewYears and Ash Wednesday. The study concludes prior toSpring Break.

Free childcare is available. The cost is $40 (includes book)and scholarships are available. Women of all faiths are wel-come to participate. To register, go to www.holysouls.org.Deadline to register online is August 26th.

Mary, Undoer of Knots

he still promotes to this day.

Mary, Undoer of Knots, straightens out the ribbon of ourlives and directs us on a straight path to Jesus, her son.The Blessed Virgin helps us loosen the knots that suffocaterelationships between married couples, parents, theirchildren, our neighbors, and most importantly, with JesusChrist. We at Holy Souls have a Mary, Undoer of Knots, display in the southeast corner of the sanctuary.

We invite you to take a look at the knots that weigh on yourheart. Write your prayers or “knots” onto the strips of paperyou will find by the display and tie them onto the framesand entrust them to Mary’s intercession. When your prayeris answered, you may tie a special blue ribbon on the panel.

The devotion to Mary, Undoer of Knots, dates back to 17th century Germany, when a couple on the verge of separationsought help from a priest who was knownfor his strong Marian devotion. The priestbegan to ask for Mary’s intercession to“untie the knots” in their relationship, and peace was restored to theirmarriage. In 1980, Jorge Mario Bergoglio(who later became Pope Francis),discovered this devotion to Mary which
