WELCOME BACK, OUR CHURCH IS OPEN! Our Parish’s Opening

The Coronavirus has challenged our lives in the last few months in ways that none of us would have imagined. All of the sacrifices that we have had to make, including suspending public masses, have been difficult. Yet we are doing our part to protect the common good and to ensure the safety of all our parishioners and staff. As we prepare to open our parish each week for public Masses and other gatherings, I ask you to keep a few things in mind.

A general dispensation from the Sunday obligation: If you are in an at-risk health group or just don’t feel ready for public Masses, you should continue to stay home. If you are sick or have been recently exposed to the Coronavirus, please be considerate of others and do not come to the parish.

Masks will be required of all who come. Yet, parishioners should understand that there is an assumed risk any time they enter a public space. If you do choose to attend Mass know that attendance at Mass will be limited. With only a small number of parishioners allowed at each Mass to ensure social distancing, your opportunities to attend may be infrequent at first.

Please be aware that we clean after each service and can always use help. Please let us know if you are interested in helping. We look forward to being again with you at Mass. Remember, your safety is a priority for us!

WELCOME PARISHIONERS- NEW CHURCH PROTOCOL: o EVERYONE OVER THE AGE OF 2 SHOULD WEAR FACE MASKS. o EVERYONE MUST PRACTICE SOCIAL DISTANCING – MARKINGS ARE IN CHURCH PEWS, ETC. CERTAIN PEWS

WILL BE CLOSED TO FACILITATE SOCIAL DISTANCING. o HAND SANITIZER IS AVAILABLE. o YOU WILL RECEIVE THE BODY OF CHRIST AT THE END OF MASS, PLEASE CONSUME AS YOU LEAVE THE CHURCH

QUIETLY AND WITH RESPECT. o ONE ENTRANCE AT PARKING LOT DOOR.

NEW MASS SCHEDULE AS FOLLOWS: SATURDAY, 5:00 PM

SUNDAY, 8:00 AM, 10:00 AM, 12:00 PM MONDAY—FRIDAY 9:00 AM

Thank you for your continuous support and appeal to your generous nature and ask you to support our parish and make consistent weekly contributions at this time. One way is to participate in our online giving program. First visit our website: https://ollmtarlington.org and click Give Online https://ollmtarlington.weshareonline.org/.

Set up your account. Choose a payment option and customize your donation. You can use your debit card, credit card, checking or savings account. Another option is to use your Online Banking to make electronic contributions through “bill paying” options in your personal bank account. Your bank will then print and mail checks to the parish. You can also mail your envelopes to Our Lady of the Lake, 1 Park Avenue, Mt. Arlington, NJ 07856.

Hoping you and your family are in good health and good spirit. We will all be praying that this virus will run its course in the near future. We will keep in touch with any updated information as we are able by posting on the https://ollmtarlington.org website

WE ARE A TITHING PARISH Tithing is a symbol of how God calls us to live our lives as stewards. In good times, tithing helps you remember that God is the source of all blessings, and it allows you to demonstrate your gratitude for His care. In hard times, tithing motivates you to remember God’s faithfulness, and it enables you to demonstrate trust in God to provide for all of your needs. Tithing is defined as one-tenth of your income. A FRESH PERSPECTIVE ON THE SUNDAY READINGS HIS WORD TODAY by Rev. William J. Reilly

Twenty-fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time September 13, 2020

“Wrath and anger are hateful things yet the sinner hugs them tight... Forgive your neighbor’s injustices then when you pray your own sins will be forgiven. Could anyone nourish anger against another and expect healing from the Lord? Could anyone refuse mercy to another like himself, can he seek pardon for his own sins? If one who is but flesh cherishes wrath, who will forgive his sins? Remember your last days, set enmity aside.”

For most, it is hard to forgive. For God, it is the very

reason why Jesus came, to forgive us and reconcile us to the Father. Sometimes we overlook our faults and fail to ask for forgiveness. At other times we see the hurt we have caused others and see how necessary it is to say ‘I’m sorry.’

Take a moment today and be like Peter, asking how

frequently I must forgive my sibling – seven or seventy times? The answer is not a number, but an attitude. Reread Sirach and ask if I hug wrath and anger, if I cling to what separates me from another, if I fail to recognize the remorse that another has. Be willing to take the first step.

BISHOP KEVIN SWEENEY WILL BE CELEBRATING MASS AT OUR LADY OF THE LAKE PARISH AT 5PM ON SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 19, 2020.

TWENTY-FIFTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME First Reading: Isaiah 55:6-9 Isaiah expresses an urgent plea that all should seek the Lord and turn to him for mercy. Second Reading: Philippians 1:20c-24, 27a In a strongly personal message from Paul while in prison, he says that he wishes “to be freed from this life and to be with Christ,” but he realizes that he still has much important work to do. Gospel: Matthew 20:1-16a Jesus tells the parable of the owner of an estate who hires workmen for his vineyard. When, at the end of the day, he pays a full day’s wage to those who worked only one hour, those who worked all day complained bitterly. But the owner says, “I am free to do as I please, am I not?” Jesus reminds us through this parable that “the last shall be first and the first shall be last.”

The name of the Bishop’s Annual Appeal has been changed and will now be known as the Diocesan Ministries Appeal — please know that this is the new name of the Annual Appeal.
