Preview of Next Sunday’s Readings Eleventh Sunday in Ordinary Time

June 17, 2018 First reading: Ezekiel 17:22-24 Second reading: Corinthians 5:6-10 Gospel: Mark 4:26-34 A reading from the Book of the Prophet Ezekiel Thus says the Lord GOD: I, too, will take from the crest of the cedar, from its topmost branches tear off a tender shoot, and plant it on a high and lofty mountain; on the mountain heights of Israel I will plant it. It shall put forth branches and bear fruit, and become a majestic cedar. Birds of every kind shall dwell beneath it, every winged thing in the shade of its boughs. And all the trees of the field shall know that I, the Lord, bring low the high tree, lift high the lowly tree, wither up the green tree, and make the withered tree bloom. As I, the LORD, have spo-ken, so will I do. A reading from the second Letter of Saint Paul to the Corinthians Brothers and sisters: We are always courageous, although we know that while we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord, for we walk by faith, not by sight. Yet we are coura-geous, and we would rather leave the body and go home to the Lord. Therefore, we aspire to please him, whether we are at home or away. For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each may receive recompense, according to what he did in the body, whether good or evil. A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Mark Jesus said to the crowds: "This is how it is with the kingdom of God; it is as if a man were to scatter seed on the land and would sleep and rise night and day and through it all the seed would sprout and grow, he knows not how. Of its own accord the land yields fruit, first the blade, then the ear, then the full grain in the ear. And when the grain is ripe, he wields the sickle at once, for the harvest has come." He said, "To what shall we compare the kingdom of God, or what parable can we use for it? It is like a mustard seed that, when it is sown in the ground, is the smallest of all the seeds on the earth. But once it is sown, it springs up and becomes the largest of plants and puts forth large branches, so that the birds of the sky can dwell in its shade." With many such parables he spoke the word to them as they were able to understand it. Without parables he did not speak to them, but to his own disciples he explained everything in private.

Religious Education Office Tenth Sunday in Ordinary Time June 10, 2018 Sunday’s Gospel, Mark 3:20-35 Reflection for Parents In Baptism we become members of God’s family, the adopted daughters and sons of God. In today’s Gospel, Jesus reminds us that in order to be members of his family we must do the will of God. Take time today to think and pray about the will of God for your life. Are you doing, or fulfilling, that will? How would you define the will of God for your family? What can you do to teach your children and guide your family to do the will of God?

Bringing the Gospel Into Your Family Divide a large sheet of paper or a piece of poster board into two columns. Label the columns “Favorite Stories” and “Lessons Learned.” Invite family members to name their favorite stories about Jesus. Write the names of those stories in the left-hand column. Review the list, and challenge your family to think of at least one message or life lesson that each story teaches. For example, the message of the parable of the Good Samaritan is to help those in need. After you have listed the messages or life lessons, explain that each is an example of doing the will of God. Invite your family to choose one message or life lesson to put into action in the coming week. Make a specific plan to do so, and at the end of the week talk about your experience of doing the will of God.

Question of the Week Children: Whom could you invite to share a happy time with your family? Adults: In what ways can I widen the circle of my family to include someone in need? Pregunta de la semana Niños: ¿A quién podrías invitar a compartir un momento feliz con tu familia? Adultos: ¿De qué maneras puedo ampliar el círculo de mi familia para incluir a alguien que lo necesite?

TODAY, June 9th & 10th Priest Retirement Fund Collection for Priests

“Bless Those Who Bless You” Have you ever wondered what happens to our priests after they retire from teaching, preaching, and serving on a regular basis? Where do they go? Who takes care of them? What do they need? Like us, they desire rest and have needs for care and medical treatment as they grow older. Unlike most of us, though, their modest salaries were never meant to provide for them after many years of service. Your gift to the Priest Retirement Fund is a meaningful invest-ment and true blessing for the care and comfort of our spiritual fathers as they enter the later chapters in life. They deserve noth-ing less. Please support this collection TODAY and show our gratitude for all that our Retired Priest have done for us! Visit prfla.org to learn more.

EXPOSITION OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT The monthly Exposition of the Blessed Sacra-ment will be on Tuesday, June 12, 2018, follow-

ing the 7:30 a.m. Mass. We invite parishioners to come and pray in silent adoration of Our Lord’s presence in the Sacra-ment of the Eucharist between 7:30 p.m. and 9:00 p.m.

Remember to pray for the parish needs, for our sick, and for vocations.
