A Prayer to My Lord
My Lord,
I offer you my thoughts:
to be fixed on you;
My words:
to have you for their theme;
My actions:
to reflect my love for you;
My sufferings:
to be endured for your greater glory.
I want to do what you ask of me:
In the way you ask,
For as long as you ask,
Because you ask it.
Lord, enlighten my understanding,
Strengthen my will,
Purify my heart,
and make me holy.
Help me to repent of my past sins
And to resist temptation in the future.
Help me to rise above my human weaknesses
And to grow stronger as a Christian.
Amen.

Are you Jesus? A few years ago a group of salesmen went to a regional sales convention in Chicago.. They had assured their wives that they would be home in plenty of time for Friday night's dinner. In their rush, with tickets and briefcases, one of these salesmen inadvertently kicked over a table which held a display of apples. Apples flew everywhere. Without stopping or looking back, they all managed to reach the plane in time for their nearly-missed boarding... ALL BUT ONE!!! He paused, took a deep breath, got in touch with his feelings and experienced a twinge of compassion for the girl whose apple stand had been overturned. He told his buddies to go on without him, waved good-bye, told one of them to call his wife when they arrived at their home destination and explain his taking a later flight. Then he returned to the terminal where the apples were all over the terminal floor. He was glad he did. The 16-year-old girl was totally blind! She was softly crying, tears running down her cheeks in frustration, and at the same time helplessly groping for her spilled produce as the crowd swirled about her; no one stopping and no one to care for her plight. The salesman knelt on the floor with her, gathered up the apples, put them back on the table and
helped organize her display. As he did this, he noticed that many of them had become battered and bruised; these he set aside in another basket.
When he had finished, he pulled out his wallet and said to the girl, "Here, please take this $40 for the damage we did. Are you okay?" She nodded through her tears. He continued on
with, "I hope we didn't spoil your day too badly." As the salesman started to walk away, the bewildered blind girl called out to him, "Mister...." He paused and turned to look back into those blind eyes. She continued, "Are you Jesus?" He stopped in mid-stride .... and he wondered. He gently went back and said, "No, I am nothing like Jesus - He is good, kind, caring, loving, and would never have bumped into your display in the first place. "The girl gently nodded: "I only asked because I prayed for Jesus to help me gather the apples. He sent you to help me, so you are like Him - only He knows who will do His will. Thank you for hearing His call, Mister." Then slowly he made his way to catch the later flight with that question burning and bouncing about in his soul: "Are you Jesus?" Do people mistake you for Jesus?
That's our destiny, is it not? To be so much like Jesus that people cannot tell the difference as we live and interact with a world that is blind to His love, life and grace. If we claim to know Him, we should live, walk and act as He would. Knowing Him is more than simply quoting scripture and going to church. It's actually living the Word as life unfolds day to day . You are the apple of His eye even though you, too, have been
bruised by a fall. He stopped what He was doing and picked up you and me on a hill called Calvary and paid in full for our damaged fruit. Sometimes we just take things for granted, when we
really need to be sharing what we know....Thanks. "Being happy doesn't mean everything is perfect. It means you've decided to see beyond the imperfections." The nicest place to be is in someone's thoughts, the safest place to be is in someone's prayers, and the very best place to be is ........
in the hands of God

St. Edith Stein Feastday: August 9
Died: 1942
SSSaint Teresa Benedicta
of the Cross (Edith
Stein)Virgin and Martyr
Edith Stein, born in 1891
in Breslau, Poland, was
the youngest child of a
large Jewish family. She
was an outstanding
student and was well versed in philosophy
with a particular interest in
phenomenology. Eventually she became
interested in the Catholic Faith, and in
1922, she was baptized at the Cathedral
Church in Cologne, Germany. Eleven years
later Edith entered the Cologne Carmel.
Because of the ramifications of politics in
Germany, Edith, whose name in religion was
Teresa Benedicta of the Cross, was sent to
the Carmel at Echt, Holland. When the Nazis
conquered Holland, Teresa was arrested,
and, with her sister Rose, was sent to the
concentration camp at Auschwitz. Teresa
died in the gas chambers of Auschwitz in
1942 at the age of fifty-one. In 1987, she
was beatified in the Cologne cathedral by
Pope John Paul II. Out of the unspeakable
human suffering caused by the Nazis in
western Europe in the 1930's and 1940's,
there blossomed the beautiful life of
dedication, consecration, prayer, fasting,
and penance of Saint Teresa. Even though
her life was snuffed out by the satanic
evil of genocide, her memory stands as a
light undimmed in the midst of evil,
darkness, and suffering. She was canonized
on October 11, 1998.

A PRAYER TO SAY BEFORE THE HOLY MASS
Lord Jesus Christ, I approach your banquet table
in fear and trembling, for I am a sinner,
and dare not rely on my own worth, but only on your goodness and mercy.
I am defiled by many sins in body and soul, and by my unguarded thoughts and words.
Gracious God of majesty and awe, I seek your protection, I look for your healing.
Poor troubled sinner that I am, I appeal to you, the fountain of all mercy.
I cannot bear your judgment, but I trust in your salvation.
Lord, I show my wounds to you and uncover my shame before you.
I know my sins are many and great, and they fill me with fear, but I hope in your mercies,
for they cannot be numbered. Lord Jesus Christ, eternal king, God and man,
crucified for mankind, look upon me with mercy and hear my
prayer, for I trust in you. Have mercy on me,
full of sorrow and sin, for the depth of your compassion never ends.
Praise to you, saving sacrifice, offered on the wood of the cross for me and
for all mankind. Praise to the noble and precious blood, flowing from the wounds of
the my crucified Lord Jesus Christ and washing away the sins of the whole world. Remember, Lord your creature,
whom you have redeemed with your blood; I repent my sins, and I long to put right what I
have done. Merciful Father, take away all my offenses
and sins; purify me in body and soul, and make me worthy to taste the holy of
holies. May your body and blood, which I intend to receive, although I am
unworthy, be for me the remission of my sins, the washing away of my guilt, the end of my
evil thoughts, and the rebirth of my better instincts.
May it incite me to do the works pleasing to you and profitable to my health in body and
soul, and be a firm defense against the wiles of my enemies. Amen
(This is St. Ambrose's prayer before Mass.)

The following is FICTION; but is our society headed in this
direction? Think about it!
January 22, 2023
Dear Mom,
Can you believe it is already the year 2023? I’m still writing ’22 on everything! It seems like only yesterday that I was sitting in the first grade and celebrating the change to a new century.
I know we really haven’t chatted since Christmas, Mom, and I’m sorry. Anyway, I have some difficult news to share with you and, to be honest, I really didn’t want to call or talk about this face to face.
But before I get to that, let me report that Ted just got a big promotion; and I should be up for a hefty raise this year if I keep putting in all those crazy hours. You know how I work at it. (Yes, we’re still struggling to pay the bills.)
Little Timmy’s been okay at kindergarten, although he complains about going. But then, he wasn’t happy about the day-care center either. So what can we do?
He’s been a real problem, Mom. He’s a good kid, but quite honestly, he’s an unfair burden on us at this time in our lives. Ted and I have talked this through, and we have finally made a choice. Plenty of other families have made the same choice and are really better off today.
Our pastor is supportive of our choice. He pointed out that the family is a system, and the demands of one member shouldn’t be allowed to ruin the whole. The pastor told us to be prayerful and to consider all the factors as to what is right to make our family work. He says that even though he probably wouldn’t do it himself, the choice is really ours. He was kind enough to refer us to a children’s clinic near here, so at least that part is easy.
Don’t get me wrong, Mom. I’m not an uncaring mother. I do feel sorry for the little guy. I think he heard Ted and me talking about this the other night. I turned and saw him standing at the bottom of the stairs in his PJs with his little teddy bear that you gave him under his arm, and his eyes were sort of welled up
in tears.
Mom, the way he looked at me just about broke my heart, but I honestly believe this is better for Timmy, too. It’s just not fair to force him to live in a family that can’t give him the time and attention he deserves.
And please, Mom, don’t give me the kind of grief that grandma gave you over your abortions. It’s the same thing, you know. There’s really no difference.
We’ve told Timmy he’s just going for a “vaccination”. Anyway, they say the termination procedure is painless. I guess it’s just as well that you haven’t seen that much of Timmy lately.
Please give my love to dad.
Your daughter, Sharon.
Several weeks after the “vaccination” – oddly enough on what would have been Timmy’s seventh birthday – Sharon found the following letter on her pillow. It was handwritten in an elegant, beautiful script, in gold ink on paper with a pearl-like finish.
Dear Mom,
It’s me, Timmy. I’m in Heaven. It’s so beautiful and peaceful here that you couldn’t even imagine. One of the wonderful things about Heaven is that there is no time. With a few exceptions, we can not only see things that happened long ago but we can see things that haven’t happened yet – at least on Earth. I’ve met a lot of beautiful people since I got here, including my aunt and three uncles who were never born because grandma chose not to have them. And the angels, Mom, they are such a joy. I wish you could meet my guardian angel. He held my hand at the clinic so I wasn’t afraid.
What is really neat in Heaven is that we all see one another as we really are. We don’t see babies or old people or anyone in between. That’s because our bodies really aren’t us. We are all simply beautiful people who radiate infinite love, a love that is a reflection of God who is Love. And, when God raises our bodies at the end of time, our bodies will glow with such glory that you would not recognize us. It makes me sad that you and grandma may not be able to share in that.
All you have to do is to accept God’s mercy and forgiveness like so many others like you have. You can open yourself to His grace. That’s a choice you do have the right to make.
I’m looking forward to seeing Dad and his new wife, Angela, here in Heaven. After the two of you separated, he met her. She was working with an organization that believes life is a precious gift from God, and that it should never be seen as an inconvenience – or an unfair burden. She got him to rethink the choice you and he made, and he turned to God for forgiveness. In fact, Dad is going to become a United States senator and sponsor a lot of bills in Congress to prevent abortions and euthanasia. Their efforts to teach people to respect all life will one day extend around the world. It’s too bad that everyone can’t be as Christian as Dad and Angela will be.
It’s really a shame that a lot of folks will never see how wonderful their children are. I’ve met so many – millions – who were not allowed to be born, or who were terminated as I was. A lot of them would have been scientists who could have built colonies on other planets and done things to make Earth a better place to live. So many others would have discovered cures for a lot of the diseases that afflict people, a lot sooner than the discoveries will be made. One, a real character, would have been a comedian who made people laugh and feel good about themselves. She is a real treat to be around. There is so much talent here that was never allowed to blossom.
Well, Mom, I have to go now. A group of us – several thousand of us, in fact – are getting ready to stand before God’s throne and sing praise to Him. We do that a lot. It was, after all, His love that made us who we are. You see, we belong to God, not to one another. So we really don’t have the right to decide who lives and who doesn’t. It’s too bad that you never understood that.
I love you and continue to pray for you,
Your son, Timmy
Then, as tears filled Sharon’s eyes, the letter vanished.

C lay Balls
A man was exploring caves by
the Seashore. In one of the caves he found a canvas bag with a bunch of hardened clay balls. It was like someone had rolled clay balls and left them out in the sun to bake. They didn't look like much, but they intrigued the man, so he took the bag out of the cave with him. As he strolled along the beach, he would throw the clay balls one at a time out into the ocean as far as he could. He thought little about it, until he dropped one of the clay balls and it cracked open on a rock. Inside was a beautiful, precious stone! Excited, the man started breaking open the remaining clay balls. Each contained a similar treasure. He found thousands of dollars worth of jewels in the 20 or so clay balls he had left.
Then it struck him. He had been on the beach a long time. He had thrown maybe 50 or 60 of the clay balls with their hidden treasure into the ocean waves. Instead of thousands of dollars in treasure, he could have taken home tens of thousands, but he had just thrown it away! It's like that with people. We look at someone, maybe even ourselves, and we see the external clay vessel. It doesn't look like much from the outside. It isn't always beautiful or sparkling, so we discount it. We see that person as less important than someone more beautiful or stylish or well known or wealthy. But we have not taken the time to find the treasure hidden inside that person. There is a treasure in each and every one of us. If we take the time to get to know that person, and if we ask God to show us that
person the way He sees them, then the clay begins to peel away and the brilliant gem begins to shine forth. May we not come to the end of our lives and find out that we have thrown away a fortune in friendships because the gems were hidden in bits of clay. May we see the people in our world as God sees them. APPRECIATE EVERY SINGLE THING YOU HAVE, ESPECIALLY FAMILY AND FRIENDS! LIFE IS TOO SHORT AND FRIENDSHIPS ARE FAR TOO FEW! Don't ask GOD to Guide your Footsteps if you're not willing to MOVE your Feet'

You are Really God's Little Child
My poor child, how short this life on earth is! It is always an
unfinished symphony. Do you realize your home is
elsewhere? Why do you continue to cling to the things of
the earth? The other life is tomorrow. Are you not longing
to see Me? To know Me better? Ask Me for this desire. I
can give you everything you lack. You don't ask. Above all do
not be afraid of wearying Me or annoying Me. You are my
little child. Nothing that concerns you ever tires Me....Don't
be afraid then. Just ask. Yearn for Me and thank Love. Call
yourself: God's little child...it will give you a new feeling.
Our Lord to Gabrielle Bossis from the classic "He and I"
Why We Must Think Daily on our Lord's Passion
Many of the Saints have indicated that a daily...yes daily...reading/meditation
on our dear Lord's Passion is a critical and necessary step to grow in holiness
and leads to a need to be at the Representation of His Passion and Death
each day (the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass). St. Hannibal di Francia
describes it as follows:
What kind of heart do we have if we are insensitive to all our Savior
suffered for us. One cause of this hardness of our hearts is our
unforgivable failure to meditate and contemplate daily what He did actually
suffer for our sins and our ongoing sinfulness. He was racked with suffering
The Divine Insight
Here is a great benefit to be gained from daily thinking about
the Passion and Death of our dear Savior. We will grow in
love and attachment to the Most Holy Sacrifice of the
Mass. From the feet of Jesus Crucified we proceed to the
foot of the Altar where we worship, love and ascend to the
most initiate union a soul could have with God through Most
Holy Communion. He or she who neglects to meditate on the
Passion of Christ...what He actually suffered for your
personal sins....will NEVER make an ardent Communion so
as to extract real benefits from it and give God the love we
should.
St. Hannibal di Francia
and pain for His entire life...willingly endured for our sake....and we tire
after just a few minutes thinking about it. Recommit to give God this tiny sip
of Love....every day. He thirsts for your love. Let us stop being so
ungrateful to Him.
St. Hannibal di Francia from the "Hours of the Passion"

The Respect Life Committee would like to thank all of you for your participation in the 2013 Spiritual Adoption &/or Baby bottle Fundraiser. Many baby bottles were taken home, some have even been returned already. If you need another bottle, we have more. I f you missed out on spiritually
adopting a baby, it isn’t too late. God will pair you with the perfect child for you. Think of the joy you will feel in your heart in heaven, this other person comes to you and says, “I am ____. You named me____. I want to thank you so much, you are the reason that I lived, I was granted life due to your prayers for me and my mom.” Can you even imagine hearing this? We had 69 bottles taken home for the Fundraiser. Thanks and Praise to all of you.
We received 14 Spiritual Adoptions. If you did not leave a slip with the babies name on it, it isn’t too late to do so. Just fill out one of the adoption papers beneath the Virgin Mother on the West side of the Church. Fill in the info, leave the bottom and take the top home. And, of course, pray for your baby.
If you were unable to leave the slip with your baby’s name on it, you may still do so. We will have extra slips under the Statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary on the west side of the Church. All you need to do is sign your name, the baby’s name on the slip and take the top part home with you and put the bottom part in the basket. Mother Mary will watch over the babies as we pray for them. The question has arisen “what do I do with the bottle when I am ready to bring it back?” You may give it to a Respect Life Committee member or place it in the purple box in the Sacristy, marked baby bottles. The bottles will be moved to a safe, secure, locked area as soon as possible after.

I attended a Family reunion at Dawes Arboretum in
Licking County in June. I had been there before but had
never seen the Cypress Tree Swamp. I walked through it
with one of my nieces. The root system of Cypress the
tree is different from most trees. The roots shoot upward
from the water. This one root system kept catching my
eye. I was drawn
back to it a few
times. It reminded
me of the Holy
Family. Yes, I
mean Jesus, Mary
and Joseph. It
amazed me
enough to take a
picture of it. When
we downloaded
the picture it looked even more realistic. The face of
Joseph actually looked like it had been carved out of
porcelain. The blue skies reflecting in the water made it
look even more amazing. God made a beautiful day even
more special by the gift of this precious root system.
