The Catholic Church is the Church founded by Jesus

Testament of the Christian Bible. The term "Catholic"
means "according to the whole;" it was used early in the
Church's history to distinguish her from a number of
other gatherings whose teachings and practices were not
true to the authoritative teachings of Christ's apostles. All
human persons are invited and encouraged to accept the
salvation offered by Jesus through His one, holy, catholic
and apostolic Church by living the sacramental life offered
by the Catholic Church. It is the mission of Our Lady of
the Prairie Catholic Church to offer this life to the people
of Belle Plaine, Minnesota and its environs.

A Message from the Pastor...
TWENTY-THIRD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME A
This week in the second reading, Saint Paul tells the
early Christians in Rome to owe nothing. It is always smart to
avoid going into debt. But Saint Paul encourages one
exception, the debt of mutual love. He encourages the
Christians in Rome to love each other, for that way they fulfill
the law. Here Saint Paul picks up and reiterates one of the
great innovations of Jesus' teaching -- to love God and to love
our neighbor as oneself. Authentic Christian love is always
rooted in willing the good of the other. That is what we must
continually learn and practice in our attempt to build up the
kingdom of God at Our Lady of the Prairie.
Saint Matthew assures us in the gospel that when we
gather in the Lord’s name, God is present among us. This is
also some practical advice and motivation for us to grow our
bonds with one another as a community.
One very practical way for us to begin to grow in
mutual love is to spend time with one another. While it is
difficult in the midst of a pandemic and we have to be careful
to allow space and distance when we gather, I am hoping that
one day our social events will become a hallmark of our
community. I look forward to the days when we can once
again host breakfasts, fish frys, spaghetti dinners and coffee
and donuts. We have the space and equipment and we have
lost many months of being together and gathering as a
community.
School begins this week and we are excited to
welcome back our students and have prepared for the current
situation with safety protocols in place. We want to keep our
parish and school free of virus and disease. Faith Formation is
temporarily on hold as we search for a director and wait for
conditions to improve for us to host on campus learning for
grades 1 – 6. Current 7th
and 8th
graders will be starting to
prepare for Confirmation with the Chosen curriculum.
Our annual fall festival is next weekend! I hope that
everyone will take part in some way. Thank you for all that
you do to make Our Lady of the Prairie an awesome parish
and school community! The festival will be another great
event for us to celebrate our mutual affection for one another
and help us to create that wonderful debt of mutual love!
