WE, the parish of Our Lady of Victory, proclaim with joy the presence of Jesus in the world through Word, Sacrament, and deed. It is through our discipleship that we recognize our connection to God, our neighbor,
and our deepest spiritual selves.
WE, seek to live out the Gospel of Jesus Christ by: + Welcoming all with kindness, compassion and hospitality. + Nourishing the faith life of the community through prayer, fellowship and education. + Reverencing the
dignity of each person by celebrating the beauty of life from conception to natural death. + Nurturing the gifts of all so that each person may live out his or her unique and personal call from God. + Caring for the needs of
the less fortunate by empowering our parish community to answer that call.
WE, do this in the name of Jesus Christ and the mandate: “See those Christians how they love one another!”

Dear Parishioners, Twice a year the Bishop calls the priests of the Diocese together for a Priest Conference at the Seminary of the Immaculate Conception in Huntington. It is an important part of our on-going formation and professional training as priests. The Spring conference was held last week. Bishop Barres spoke about the theme of “dramatic missionary growth” and how that can be developed in our parishes. One of the ways to contribute to achieving the goal of dramatic missionary growth that was present-ed to the priests was through a wider use of the Formed.org resource. Parishioners of Our Lady of Victory are already familiar with this online platform, and over 440 parishioners have already registered and use Formed. Let me remind you once again what Formed is, using their own words: FORMED, a revolutionary online platform, provides access to the best Catholic audio talks, movies, ebooks, and video-based studies from trusted providers ... FORMED presents a tremendous opportuni-ty to help the overwhelming majority of Catho-lics change the way they consume media and develop a daily habit of faith formation and prayer. The Church has always sought to use the best means of communication available in its time to convey the Gospel message - whether that meant the use of the Roman roads in the first centuries to the printing press, to radio and television, to today’s use of digital com-munication. That’s why it is such a blessing for the Church that Formed.org as well as oth-er Catholic platforms, have been created. If you haven’t already done so, please sub-scribe to Formed.org - free of charge (the par-ish has covered the subscription fee for all OLV parishioners) by following these simple steps: • Visit olvfpny.formed.org with a web
browser • Enter your email and create a password • Start benefitting form the abundant solid
Catholic content that is available.
SYMBOLON I’d like to mention to you the follow-up to our Lenten Thursday night meetings. Beginning in May, Fr. Sullivan and I will lead a parish study group based on the series entitled “SYMBOLON” on formed.org. This series presents the BIG picture of the Catholic faith in an overview form. The series has ten lessons, which we would cover by using one lesson per month from May to next April (excluding the summer months of July and August). Participants could view the SYMBOLON episode at their own convenience. Then they could attend one of three opportunities to gather with other pa-rishioners to discuss the episode during the month - one of the priests would lead a mixed group of men and women, and the other priest would then lead a women’s discussion one night, and a men’s discussion another night during the month. These meetings would take place on Monday evenings. They would begin with the showing of the episode for those who would prefer to view it in a group; and then the discussion would begin a half hour later. This plan is still being developed, so if you have ideas or suggestions about the format or our procedure, please email me at [email protected]. You will be hearing more about this attempt to enhance dramatic missionary growth in Floral Park and Bellerose Village in upcoming weeks. CONFIRMATION Recently appointed Auxiliary Bishop Rob-ert Coyle will be the presiding Bishop at the OLV Confirmations this Thursday, April 19th. Over 160 8th graders will be receiving the Sacrament. Congratulations to all of them! Because of the Confirmation ceremonies, there will be NO noon Mass on Thursday. Pa-rishioners are welcome to join us at one of the Confirmation Masses at 10:30am, 1:30 or 4pm
Praised be the name of Jesus Christ now and forever!

The event description asks, "How do Christians in the U.S. experience life in an easier way than non-Christians?" "... are there places where Christians have built-in advantages over non-Christians?" The learning objec-tives indicate the learning session will touch on "white privilege" as well.

However, the many Christians who have been mocked, ostracized, sued, lost jobs, businesses, or military rank for following their Christian beliefs and conscience, could chal-lenge the premise of this training seminar at GWU and a similar philosophy at Simmons College in Boston and other universi-ties. Instances of prejudice and persecution against Christians has substantially in-creased in the U.S. and the world. In these Sacraments may we know Your grace…
God created us spirit and body. We require concrete signs and symbols that our
physical senses can grasp to prepare us for encounters
with our Creator. Our wise and loving Jesus gave us sacraments
so that we might know and experience the grace and presence of God. The
sacraments engage our senses and, in that way, help us experience that
which is invisible, beyond our senses.
As the children and young adults of our Parish receive the Sacraments of First Eucharist and Confirmation, let
us pray that these sacraments nourish them in their life of faith and may they know God’s
grace.

We would like to thank James Haslbauer for his collection of baby items and food for the pantry! Our guests are so grateful for all the diapers, wipes, and baby formula. These items are such a great help for our young moms and their new babies. Thanks again James! This summer July 8-13 the Diocese of Rockville Centre will host its second annual summer camp for high school boys and girls. It will have a particular OLV touch as the Camp director this year is Fr. Chris Sullivan and the sponsor once again is our vocations director, Fr. Joe Fitzgerald. For more information visit campquovadis.com or email [email protected]
Dear Friends:
Thank you for your support of the Catholic Ministries Appeal. The Catholic Ministries Appeal offers us a unique opportunity to be the Hands of Christ’s Mercy and His instrument of Dramatic Missionary Growth on Long Is-land and beyond, as it supports so many good works we accomplish together as Church.
The Catholic Ministries Appeal supports works of evangelization and ministries that provide spiritual, educational and charitable assistance to hundreds of thousands of men, women and children across our Diocese. So much of the vital work of our Church would not be possible if not for your support of the Catholic Ministries Appeal.
Our Holy Father Pope Francis said: “…Let us be renewed by God’s mercy, let us be loved by Jesus, let us enable the power of His love to transform our lives too; and let us become agents of this mercy.” The Catholic Minis-tries Appeal is a critical part of that calling, making it possible for Christ’s mercy to reach throughout our entire Diocese.
We see it in the smiles and laughter from our seniors at our community centers who, maybe for the first time in a long time, are socializing and sharing a hot meal with others. We see it the faces of those who, because of Catho-lic Charities, have long term sobriety and are reunited with their families. We see it in the joy of a seminarian as he completes his studies, and is ordained to the priesthood, and we see it in the excitement of a college student, away from home for the first time, finding faith-filled friends through a Catholic Campus Ministry program.
Through your prayerful consideration and reflection, I invite you to once again take part in the work of our Church by making a sacrificial gift to the 2018 Catholic Ministries Appeal. Together we can continue to be agents of Jesus’ mercy.
Thank you for your love for the mission of the Church. I will be keeping you and your family daily in my Masses and prayers.
Sincerely yours in Christ,
Most Reverend John O. Barres Bishop of Rockville Centre
