As of year-end 2017, the company had approximately 1.44 billion barrels-equivalent of proved reserves, making it one of the world’s largest independent oil and natural gas exploration and production companies.

Anadarko in Algeria Anadarko has been active in Algeria for more than 25 years. In 1998, Anadarko and Sonatrach formed a joint-operating association called Groupement Berkine, which has since constructed and is currently producing from two mega projects in the Sahara Desert – HBNS and El Merk. In 2017, the Ourhoud Field, another mega project in which Anadarko participates, surpassed a cumulative production milestone of 1 billion barrels of oil.

2017 Algeria Highlights

World Learning/Anadarko Career’s Centre – OuarglaWorld Learning counselors offer students a regular schedule of one-on-one career orientation sessions, professional soft skills and civic engagement training courses, English for the workplace courses and career fairs. In 2017, more than 1,300 students registered at the centre for English in the workplace courses and a further 900 benefited from soft skills courses. Anadarko offers a number of inductions and trainings for the students studying hydrocarbons, ranging from site visits to HBNS/El Merk, networking clinics with engineer and workshops.

STEM in Algeria – Algiers & OuarglaThe Algiers STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) Centre, which opened in January 2016, is jointly funded by Dow Chemical, Boeing and Anadarko and operated by World Learning. In 2017, more than 820 students from kindergarten to high school participated in STEM activities. The Centre sent the first team from Algeria to the First Global Robotics Championship held in Washington, D.C.

In February 2018, the Anadarko-funded Ouargla STEM Centre opened to support education in the region. The centre will deliver a number of hands-on learning activities grounded in a vision of innovation in education.

Anadarko Competition – Algeria’s Best Kept Secret

In partnership with Echorouk News, Anadarko hosted a social media video competition – “Algeria’s Best Kept Secret.” The contest sought to foster creativity and encourage Algerians between the ages of 16 and 25 to engage with the rest of the world while developing their English skills and promoting the best kept secrets of Algeria. Videos were posted to a Facebook page and fans voted for their favorite submissions. After the field was narrowed to 10 videos, a panel composed of Anadarko employees and Echorouk representatives selected the top five videos.
