Goal Setting

There are those that:

• Make things happen• Watch things happen• Don’t know what’s happening

WHICH ONE ARE YOU?

What should a Goal be?

• Personal• Relevant• Realistic• Flexible• Measurable

Keep in mind that an effective Goal should be:

• Realistic, i.e. challenging but achievable• As specific as possible

• Clearly expressed

Short and Long Term Goals

Goal Setting

SHORT TERM:

Personal Goals (relationships, family, financial, health, leisure, education, personal development, travels etc.)

For Example:

• Take a stress management course• No more Saturday overtime!• Go to gym at least once a week• Save up for a trip to USA

LONG TERM:

For Example:

• Make more time for myself• Provide a caring and supportive environmentfor my family• Pay off Mortgage• Take 3 overseas trips

SHORT TERM:

Career Goals

For Example:

• Develop my general written communication skills.• Start an OH&S course to increase my awareness

LONG TERM:

For Example:

• Have a stimulating , challenging job that leaves me with time and energy from my personal goals.• Work my way through my masters degree for Commerce

These are: Smaller goals which allow you to reach your long term goals

Personal Goals (relationships, family, financial, health, leisure, education, personal development, travels etc.)

For Example:

• My Goal is to do well in my HSC Exams so that I can gain entry to university and become a Business Graduate

Career Goals

For Example:

• My Goal is to enter into an Electrical Apprenticeship, so that I can become a qualified electrician and gain experience to start my own business
