Cameron has been leading the Divine Mercy Novena after his daily 5pm rosary. We will celebrate Mercy Sunday this Sunday in all the Masses, with the final novena and sung chaplet at 3pm. I am encouraged, though, that a good number of you have been joining our daily 5pm rosary on our Facebook and YouTube channels. I think it?s quite comforting to be able to pray the rosary all together after our day?s work is done. I plan to continue thisdaily live streamed rosary even after the Shelter-in-Place orders are lifted. God is certainly permitting this time of trial, and He will bring good thingswe may never know out of it. But one good from this affliction for many of us is a deeper love for prayer, and really a deeper love for each other. One of my dear priest friendscomes from a family of seven children. His dad and mom would gather all the kids every day at 9pm to pray the rosary. Both their parentsare dead now, but these families, all of whom have kept the faith, still pray the rosary as a family every night. Let this 5pm rosary be our family rosary hour, as members of thisparish and this common human family. I look forward to praying the rosary with all of you, my dear children, at 5pm tonight! When can we go to Mass again? As of today San Francisco?sShelter-in-Place order will be lifted on May 3. Will we be able to resume public Masses on that day, which is a Sunday? I don? t know, and of course the decision rests with the Archbishop. But let me assure you that I am doing everything I can, and I pray the Church?s leadership is doing everything it can, to resume public Masses as soon as possible. There are certainly ways to administer the Holy Eucharist safely, even in a pandemic. If grocery stores can do it, the Church can do it. If coffee shops and pet stores and liquor stores are deemed ?essential services?by the government, we must make sure that freedom of public worship is also respected as such. The free exercise of religion is the First Amendment to our Constitution, much more protected in law than marijuana dispensaries. Consecration to St. Joseph I continue to delight in my daily readings from Fr. Donald Calloway?s book on St. Joseph. Many of you are doing these readings with me, and I encourage you to persevere until our May 1 Consecration to St. Joseph. My short summaries each morning can be found at www.frilloblog.com. Although we will not have our consecration Mass on May 1, I will print the consecration prayer on my blog that day. I am rescheduling our public consecration Mass for Saturday, May 30, at 8:30am. This is the vigil of Pentecost, and St. Joseph was espoused to the spouse of the Holy Spirit, so we will pray to the Holy Spirit, to Holy Mary, and to St. Joseph on that day. Fr. The more common English word used in the Litany is ?courageous,? however, and it also helps us understand St. Joseph. The heart of this word ?courageous? is ? the word ?heart? (cor in Latin, coeur in French, etc.). Joseph was strong because he loved from his heart; he loved God, Jesus and Mary, and all other goods more than he feared evil and suffering. ?Perfect love casts out fear,? writes St. John the Beloved (1 John 4:18). Demons tremble, but St. Joseph stands strong in his love for God. Therefore this simple quiet man is known also as the ?terror of demons.? Love with all your heart, and you will be strong, invincible in Jesus Christ!

Divine Mercy

in My Soul

This Sunday is St. Faustina?s favorite day, Mercy Sunday. In her seventh year (two years before her First Holy Communion), Helena Kowalska, who later entered the convent as "Sr. Faustina," began receiving the tender mercy of Jesus into her soul. In the 1920s global populations were suffering exceptional darkness and despair. The

Great World War had destroyed most of Europe, and the Spanish Influenza following this global devastation took another 50 million human lives. It was at this time, between the two World Wars, that Jesus appointed Sr. Faustina as ?secretary of my mercy.? She was to tell the world that there is a God, and His tender love will outlast any affliction. ?I desire a Feast of Mercy,? Jesus told the simple Polish sister. ?I want you to paint an image of my mercy, to be solemnly blessed on the first Sunday after Easter, the Feast of Mercy.? That image dominates our sanctuary on this day, as you can see in the live streamed Masses. Fr. Cameron has been leading the Novena after every 5pm rosary, which you can join on our Facebook or YouTube. Blessed Feast of Divine Mercy! Fr. Joseph

St. Joseph' Day We are working toward May 1, when we consecrate ourselves to God through St. Joseph. As we enter the sixth week of isolation, we feel weakened. Here is my reflection from Fr. Calloway?s ?Nineteenth Day? reading, to give us strength: St. Joseph?s 11th title is Ioseph fortissimo, usually translated ?Joseph Most Courageous.? But the more precise translation is ?Joseph Most Strong.? In fact, the venerable liturgical prayer known as the Trisagion or ?thrice holy,? sung often in the Eastern Liturgy (and in the Latin Rite on Good Friday), calls upon God as the ?Holy Strong One,? or Sanctus Fortissimus. Joseph, the quiet man, portrays the Strength of God the Father in his strength.
