you are a visitor from another parish, or

please introduce yourself to our parish

wearing a name badge, over a cup of tea or
coffee in the parish hall after the service.
You’ll find it behind the church.

Our parish’s patron is St
Paul the Apostle, one of
the early Church’s
missionary leaders.
A dynamic preacher,
he visited communities
located around the
Mediterranean Sea and in
Asia Minor proclaiming
the good news of the
death and resurrection of
Jesus Christ. Sung Eucharist – 8.00am
Parish Eucharist – 9.30am
Name badges help make St Paul’s an
inclusive community. If you need a new
name badge, fill in the form on the
inside back cover, send it to the parish
office, and one will be made and left in
church for you.
Toilets are available at the entrance to
the parish hall, which is located behind
the church.
First aid kits are located on the wall of
the kitchen in the Large Hall behind
the church and in the choir vestry.
Ask a member of the clergy or anyone
who’s wearing a name badge. We’re
here to help.
As you take your place in your pew,
please make yourself aware of the route
to the nearest emergency exit. Should
there be a fire, leave quickly, turn right,
and assemble by the roundabout on
Burwood Road.
People needing wheelchair access can
enter St Paul’s most conveniently by the
door at the base of the belltower.
Please turn your mobile phone off or on
to silent before the service starts. It’ll
save you much embarrassment later on.
Children are welcome in church at any
service. There is a selection of
children’s books and toys at the back of
the church near the font and there are
also kids’ activity sheets and pencils
available at the back of the church
where the pew sheets and prayer books
are.
Children’s Church runs during Term
Time. Meet at the back of the church at
the beginning of the 9.30am Eucharist.
Please feel free to bring your children to
the altar rail to receive a blessing, or to
receive Communion if they have been
admitted to the sacrament.
Please do not take photos
inside the church or during the services
of worship without permission.
We will continue the Bible Study
every Thursday evening
throughout the year. We will be
studying the forthcoming Gospel
reading based on the lectionary
readings for each Sunday.
Our study will re-commence next
Thursday 14th of April at 7pm in
the Rectory.
All tickets sold for the Easter Raffle
will have another chance in the
Mother's Day raffle.
Prizes include: Express platinum
cooker Queen sized quilt, Beauty
hamper, Silk scarves plus more,
Picnic hamper and Jewellery.
It will be drawn on Mother's Day.
Welcomers play a vital role at St
Paul's. We are in need of additional
people to assist in welcoming pa-
rishioners and newcomers when
they arrive, to collect the offertory
and to collect prayer books at the
end of service.
Please contact Elizabeth Griffiths
on 0408 051 961or at
[email protected] if you can
help.
Playgroup will resume on Monday
2nd of May.
Children’s Church will
re-commence on Sunday 1st of May.
I write on behalf of my family and the friends of the late Norman Ross
Duffy to thank Fr James, and everyone affiliated with St Paul's, for their
prayers and support during the last few weeks.
We are very grateful and thank you all very much.

The pantry is becoming very depleted again.
We are currently in need of the following:
creamed rice, Cup a Soup, Rice Bubbles, Full cream milk, Up & Go,
small coffee, juice poppers and toothbrushes.
Thank you for your continuous support and generosity towards the
parish panty. It is greatly appreciated.
We are blessed that Bill Whittle and Syd Farrow, and several new keen
gardeners, give so generously of their time and expertise to care for the
beautiful grounds around St. Paul's. Is anyone able to give some time to
help Bill and Syd to care for our precinct? Please have a chat with Bill
and Syd if you can help. Thank you.
Please ensure that the ABM Lenten envelopes are returned by today.
Thank you for the support you are giving to the work of ABM .

We believe in being good stewards of what God has given us. We also
believe in being cheerful and giving with those resources. God wants us
to be faithful, no matter how little or much we have. The New Testament
teaches over and over about being faithful with what you have been
given. The New Testament gives us eight principles on generous giving:
1. Generous giving is sacrificial.
2. Generous giving is something that only some people are spiritually
gifted for, others must be taught stewardship.
3. Generous giving is a gospel issue.
4. Generous giving encourages churches to share with other churches
and ministries in need.
5. Generous giving is motivated by friendly competition (Paul
challenges the Corinthian church to match the impoverished
Macedonian church).
6. Generous giving is about sowing and reaping.
7. Generous giving is one of the many evidences that someone is
truly a Christian.
8. Generous giving promotes the worship of Jesus as God.
At St. Paul's we seek to be obedient to God and to give generously to
further God's work, to play our part in participating with God in the
extension of God's kingdom of justice, peace, and love. This generosity is
evident in the Offertory and the collection of Alms (the Collection).
On Sunday, two visible actions take place. There is a collection of alms
(money) and bread and wine are placed on the Altar. The second of
these is the essential part of the Offertory. The bread and wine are the
people's gifts. Those who bring the elements of bread and wine, the
Offertory, represent the people in presenting the elements to the
celebrant.
The collection of alms is an appropriate complement. These are taken
up during the singing of the Offertory Hymn and they are used to
purchase the bread and wine and to extend God's kingdom of justice,
peace, and love.
Over the years the parish has benefitted from the generosity of
parishioners, not only when they have been active members of the
parish, but also at the time of their death. Parishioners are invited to
remember the parish in their wills by making a bequest as a thank
offering to God and to ensure that generations to come will enjoy
worship and fellowship in well maintained buildings.
Those wishing to make a bequest are invited to do so using these or
a similar form of words: "I bequeath the sum of $............ to the Rector
and Wardens of the Anglican Parish of St Paul, Burwood, to be used at
their absolute discretion for the charitable purposes of the parish."
It will be on Saturday 7th of May 10am - 2pm

Acts 9.1-6 (7-20); Psalm 30
Revelation 5.6-14; John 21.1-19
Psalm 30.2 says, ‘O Lord my God, I cried to you: and
you have made me whole’. Yes, we too do this. It is
usually part of our prayer life, both privately and in
public worship – prayers for those who are sick,
undergoing surgery etc. We sometimes expect
that God will immediately take away the pain, cure
the disease or remove the impediment to our being able to live as we want to.
But God can make us whole in many different ways. Sometimes it is through the
skills and talents that he has given to the medical people. Sometimes it is
through his Peace that helps us accept ourselves as we are. Sometimes we don’t
realize we have been made whole because we are not looking at ourselves
through God’s eyes. Remember Jesus said, ‘Your faith has made you
whole.’ (e.g. Luke 17.19)
Pray for all who need God’s healing hand, that
they may accept the healing he gives, even if it is not as expected.
Give thanks for the Anglican Church in Aotearoa, New Zealand and
Polynesia, remembering especially the Church’s Decade of Mission, 2016-
2025.

Pray fo the Anglican Church –
for Justin, Archbishop of Canterbury;
Phillip, Primate of Australia; Glenn,
Archbishop of Sydney; Michael Stead,
our Regional Bishop; and for all the
bishops, priests, deacons and
Religious of the Anglican
Communion.
In the Anglican Cycle of Prayer we

Pray for Fr James, and for all the
clergy in the parish as well as for
their spouses. May God bless them
and their ministries and may we
support them as they work among us
in Christ’s name.
We pray for Fr Michael Deasey and
Antonia.
Pray for St Paul’s: God of mercy,
strengthen us to help shape a parish
where diversity is a source of
enrichment, compassion is common,
life’s poetry realized, suffering
lightened through sharing, justice
attended, joy pervasive, hope lived,
the hum of the universe heard, and
together with you and each other we
build what is beautiful, true, worthy
of your generosity to us, an echo of
your kingdom. Amen. (Ted Loder)
Pray for, St Matthew’s, Zababdeh,

Matthew’s partnership link person
with us. May both our parishes be
blessed by the link we are
establishing.
Pray for the Church’s mission:
Lord Jesus Christ, you stretched out
your arms of love on the hard wood of
the cross that everyone might come
within the reach of your saving
embrace: So clothe us in your Spirit
that we, reaching forth our hands in
love, may bring those who do not
know you to the knowledge and love
of you; for the honour of your name.
Amen. (Author unknown)
Pray for our Children’s Church:
The Lord said, ‘Let the little children
come to me and do not forbid them
for such is the kingdom of heaven’.
Bless, Lord, your children who now
stand before you in prayer. Help
them to understand the depth of
your love.
We pray also for all the teachers of
our Children’s Church. May our
teachers be enabled to teach and
train your children and help them to
grow spiritually.
O Lord, bless our Children's Church
and all its future endeavours, that
through it we may glorify you with
your Father and the Holy Spirit, now,
always and forever. Amen.
Pray for peace: Lead me from death
to life, from falsehood to truth; lead
me from despair to hope, from fear
to trust; lead me from hate to love,
from war to peace.
Let peace fill our hearts, our world,
our universe.
Pray for all in need,
remembering especially this week
