Apprenticeship @Siemens AG Österreich Transformers Weiz
At the factory Weiz the apprenticeship training center is under the leadership of Andritz Hydro.
The following three companies are participating in this apprenticeship training association:Siemens AG Österreich Transformers WeizAndritz HydroElin Motoren
The following apprenticeships are offered by Siemens:Mechatronics - electric machine technologyMetal technology - mechanical engineer
At the time 56 Siemens apprentices (from the 1st to the 4th apprenticeship year) are employed at the site in Weiz.
The training workshop of Andritz Hydro teaches the basic training and is adapted to the teaching image of the respective professions. In addition, priority training courses of several main focus education goals are offered as part of the education plan.
The apprentice coordinator of Siemens Weiz coordinates the communication between the training center and Siemens Transformers Weiz in regard of the required education goals:

Tank Rupture Prevention - A stand alone solution for an additional extra in safety
EM TR – Innovation highlights
Transformer Requirements
A detailed static & dynamic simulation and calculation results in an improved tank design according to individual customer transformer requirements
Advantages: • Higher safety for assets and personnel in
case of failure due to rupture prevention measures (e.g. specific tank pressure protection against internal arc’s)
• Same footprint with higher safety, as no external measures are required
How to be sure power transformers for working environments with highest security requirements are really safe?
Siemens Solution: Tank Rupture Prevention
Our experience from in-depth analysis reveals the critical zones for each individual customer design and finds the optimum extra protection.

Low Noise - Technology leadership in silent transmission for cities and urban areas
*Compared to standard design
Transformer Requirements
Especially proven for densely populated residential areas.
Fully compatible with all other Siemens transformer design concepts like Natural Ester and Tank Rupture Prevention
Advantages: • Comprising internal and external noise
reducing arrangements thus cutting sound levels by 23.9 dB(A)* at same technical limits
• No additional housing required
How to bring transformer power in sound sensitive proximities without compromising power rating and loss levels?

Application and benefit ofbullet resistant transformers
The Importance of Bullet Resistant Transformer Tanks
The Solution
The attack on an electric power station in San Jose, California1)
highlighted the threat that high-powered weapons can pose to transformers and reactors. The attack, which was carried out with a high-powered rifle, was able to surgically knock out 17 large transformers in approximately 19 minutes. It took utility workers 27 days to make repairs before reopening the substation.
Polymer concrete panels are capable of withstanding Class 9 bullets while Class 12 rounds have successfully been stopped from penetrating high-hardness steel sheets 2)
