This week the whole school have been looking

at fractions as part of their work in maths.

Our KS1 class made their own ‘ playdough’:

On Thursday, we held our World Book Day.

Each class shared stories and books, there were

a few familiar wizards, princesses, Mr Men and

super heroes as well as the Mad Hatter, A

Playing Card and even the Queen of Hearts!

Various activities such as ‘hot seating’ also took

place in the school.

Our Reception and Y1 children took part in

Balanceabililty training with Mr Somerwill; the

children in Y1 also completed their level 1

Bikeability during these sessions, which is very

unusual for this age-group. Well done!

Safeguarding and Child Protection is extremely important to us.

Occasionally we may need to make a referral to CYPS or other external agencies.

It was wonderful to hear about all of the children and staff joining in to

celebrate World Book day; I look forward to seeing all of the photos and hearing

about all of the characters represented from various stories. I hope 'World Book

Day' has reminded all children and parents of the importance of daily reading

whenever possible; we really see the impact on children's writing with regular

reading at home and school. I am very pleased to hear about the reading choices

in 5/6, especially the boys, Mrs Schulz informs me they are quite enthused to

share what each other is reading.

Have a lovely weekend and although there will be a spot of rain it will be quite

the opposite to last week!

School Association

The School Association is running an Easter competition, open to all the children at school. This year’s theme is ‘The

Daffodil’. Children can use their imagination; they can cook, sew, paint, draw or use any other craft technique to produce a

daffodil. No prizes for just cutting a flower from the garden! The cost per entry is £1. Entries must be brought into school

by 9am on Thursday 29 March 2018, ready for judging. There will be a prize for each year group and rosettes for 1st, 2nd

and 3rd place.

Thank you to everyone who braved the weather to join us at the Village Hall for the No Refunds charity fundraiser on

Saturday. Although numbers were slightly down on previous years because of the road conditions, the event was still well

supported and, judging by the feedback we’ve received, thoroughly enjoyed. We would like to thank all those who went

shopping, made curries, baked potatoes, helped in the kitchen and on the door, donated raffle prizes and ingredients and

agreed to take on the challenge of singing in public. We hope to be in a position to announce how much was raised for the

School Association, Clyst Hydon Cricket Club, Force Cancer Charity and Devon Air Ambulance Trust next week.

Sunday 20 May 2018 is the date of the Clyst Hydon Huff, a 10 km multi-terrain run (for runners aged 15 years or more) and

a 2 km off-road run (open to runners of all ages). This is the School Association’s major fundraising event of the year. The

Huff team has already secured sponsorship totalling over £2000. Please support us by helping on the day or participating in

the 10 or 2k event. If you or your children would like to run, full details are available on the Huff website

www.clysthydonhuff.co.uk. You can now enter online. Red Huff t-shirts for the 2K can be pre-ordered priced £6.50 for

adult sizes and £5.50 for children’s sizes.

Swimming for the EYFS and KS1 has started successfully and it is lovely to hear how excited the children are to be attending

their weekly lessons. Many thanks to all those that have helped with Wednesday mornings it is greatly appreciated.

Please remember that if your child is attending Breakfast Club, you need to sign the register to confirm they have arrived.

Please do not leave your child unaccompanied in the playground before a member of staff has admitted them into the

school club. Also please remember to use the recognised booking form and payment system where possible. Thank you.

We were all disappointed that the KS2 visit to see Cirque Du Soleil in London was not able to go ahead last Friday due to the

snow; however following negotiations with the company we have been able to secure a full refund for the tickets. We will

be issuing refunds to parents in due course.

Well done to our Cage Football players who have qualified for the CVSA Cage Football finals being held at Cullompton

Community College on Monday 12th

March following a closely fought contest held on Wednesday 7th

March.

Other activities that the children have recently taken part in:

Y1/2 Multi Skills Y3/4 Hockey Skills Y5/6 friendly v. Plymtree KS2 Dance

On Monday 26

th February, our Y5/6 hockey team took part in the EDSSP Quick Sticks Tournament at The King’s School,

Ottery. The team were fairly evenly matched in their group games, drawing against St Marys and Brixington and narrowly

losing to Kentisbeare 1 – 0; the team then went onto play in the semi-final of the ‘Plate’ competition and were drawn

against Kilmington, winning 2-0 and in the final they played Brixington again drawing 0 - 0. Many thanks to Denise Derham

for accompanying the team in the minibus with Mr Walker and to Vanessa Trude for assisting with the coaching skills and

supporting them at the tournament.
